Tamiya Mercedes 300SL Announced, new pics added to OP
jbwelda replied to martinfan5's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
in my experience "if it doesn't show up" pretty much never happens. just got a package from HLJ yesterday, sent SAL screw tracking numbers, I don't sit on my thumbs awaiting packages, got it in about 8 calendar days. OCD keeps the express mail flowing jb -
Why was the AMT 1941 Plymouth kitted ?
jbwelda replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
41 Plymouth? chicken feed. lets explain why a 100% loser car like a AM Pacer was issued. and reissued. yeah I get they probably had the contract for promos but foisting something like that on the unsuspecting public (more than once) was more a crime than producing the real thing. sometimes you gotta wonder what these people are thinking jb -
(NEW Update! 6/19/15) IN progress, ICM '13 Model T For
jbwelda replied to Art Anderson's topic in WIP: Model Cars
it would actually be in 1/24 scale, a piece of cake. jb -
this has been and continues to be a big problem with the interwebs. people jump all over themselves to create some page somewhere, and then never update it. you don't have to reach for fakebook to see it, just look here on this site. when was the last time a lot of things were updated here? last I looked the "current" issue was issues old. everyone wants it done; no one wants to do it. as it was, so shall it be. jb

Arrangements for the inevitable

ive got models and Ive got firecrackers. let nature take its course jb -
I am occasionally reminded of the great Japanese model builder, Kitbasha Toytoahonda, and his transcendent insights from the mystical far east. One such insight I was just reminded of is: if a Japanese kit just seems to not be fitting together correctly, consider, before reaching for the dremel tool, that an ancient culture with way more of a tradition of attention to detail than your "civilization" will ever master in this lifetime, designed the kit and undoubtedly BUILT the kit before it ever left the factory. In light of that, one might reflect on the possibility that the builder is incorrect, not the kit, and the problem needs to be approached from that angle for progress to continue. its darn hard to tell which way is front and which way is back with some of these machines, I swear. jb

oh yeah and you will love it when your post gets moved off to some ghetto where it rightfully belongs. ps there are a lot of us not in the "Camaro Club" to which you allude. jb

ok, welcome to the model cars magazine website forum! so has it occurred to you yet to look at the number of views and not judge by the number of comments? by the way, your stuff looks like garbage. actually I haven't seen it so there you go have fun while you're here and try not to have a coronary over it. jb

>It underscores/confirms most of info in Keyser's post above. may well be a circular reference; its fairly likely his information was based on your article Tim! jb

Wagons that HAVE been kitted . . .
jbwelda replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
"hippo sleek", that's funny as heck. try calling your girlfriend that and see how hard you get slapped. before the door gets slammed and youre living with the dog! jb -
thank you. I would most like to hear from either of those advocating, directly or indirectly, the "Mark Taylor" method described above. How do you achieve the mist coat? jb

Have you seen these?
jbwelda replied to Modlbldr's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
no thank you, I think its ridiculous personally. jb -
and you thought they were only at WalMart
jbwelda replied to Greg Myers's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
>too stupid to relies they are stupid realize, not "relies". watch it now or someone will point out the pot calling the kettle "bur-ned". jb -
Have you seen these?
jbwelda replied to Modlbldr's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
yes I have seen those. in the non-automotive section. which is probably where this thread belongs. jb -
i have a related question: assuming one is spraying Tamiya from the can (as opposed to decanting it and using an airbrush) how does one achieve a "mist coat"? from backing away from the subject when spraying and only letting a mist of paint hit the car? because when I have done that, not necessarily with Tamiya paint, it basically makes for a very grainy surface, I assume because it is drying before it hits the surface of the model. will doing that enough achieve the aim of a smooth paint job? or is there some other secret to it. and if that is the secret, how far away from the model should the paint can be? thanks for any guidance here... jb
-
not to intrude but...can't you cast them inside where it is warm regardless of the temp outside? just wondering jb
-
>Tamiya acrylics I don't believe we are talking about acrylics are we? I was thinking the regular Tamiya paint cans TS series, I thought that was lacquer? but I will try this method next paint job I use Tamiya paints on. it will be hard to restrain myself from a flow coat though. jb

this brings up a good point: I just returned from hom despot and at least at mine it seems they no longer sell a big range of filter brands but now only had "their" brand (made by an established filter company) and even more troubling they seemed to be phasing out the filters I need for my pace booth (24 X 12 X1) as they only had a small stack of them and they were hidden behind some other junk (its all junk basically). now maybe its because out here the "season" for stuff you need all year round is somehow "over" and they will be getting plenty more in "next 'season'" or some such marketing pathooey their beancounters figured would save them 10% of what they pay said beancounters. or maybe not...maybe there will be no such filters next "season". I bought a half dozen just in case the latter is true which it has been before, many times. God I hate this "WalMart-ization" of America. what happened to the hardware stores that had what you needed and that stuff actually worked? welcome to California. jb

1/25 Revell Ford Del Rio Ranch Wagon 2'n'1
jbwelda replied to Matt T.'s topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
>Here actual info, no nonsense! do you believe everything you read on the interwebs? because there are a lot of potential ambiguities in that statement you quoted (bumper guards not being on released model...what does that mean? different bumper guards? no bumper guards?) not to mention it being from a blind source with no real accountability ("Revell"). jb -
I believe you will find 1/43 to not really be an "off scale", in fact it seems to me to be the premium scale for hard core exotic car diecasts. I think 1/18, for example might be more popular in America, but not world wide. as pointed out, there sure are a lot more subjects available than in 1/24, and to me much more interesting ones. and there are some incredibly detailed factory built examples too, but they cost big big money. jb

>Replicas & Miniatures Company of Maryland has a Triumph in resin which i believe is the Revell parts pack kit of the early '60s. its from the AMT 63 Chevrolet pickup truck. the one from Revell is quite different, and the AMT one has some nice accessories like the Bonneville style fairing one guy on ebay has some real neat Norton and Triumph bikes in 1/24 but he wants pretty outrageous postage and insists on sending super secure, so I haven't bought any, yet. sure are tempting though. jb
