  1. well I might use a pair of them on a TDR Offy motor I am building for a project car. I figured I will probably build a manifold but if there was a nice side draft one available I am always one to go with that instead. can you recommend some velocity stacks from TDR? I can't seem to find ones that look like they would fit. I do have the four from my offy motor that might be adapted but it would be nice to have ones made for their carbs thanks again! jb
  2. amazing thing is, they used to (and may still) turn these things away at "Billetproof" hot rod shows. I never understood why, they are just as kool as most rods I see driving down the street. jb
  3. hey thanks for some reason I thought they only had downdraft versions. but I was hoping to find a more complete carb, hopefully with velocity stacks already molded and maybe even a dual carb intake manifold. anyone know of others? if not I think I could use these but they will require some fabrication work. thanks again jb
  4. plus...while the big tub may be out of production that doesn't mean you can't find parts for it, most of those parts were shared with the big T which while also currently out of production has been issued so many times as to be quite common. what I am getting at is there is a good possibility you can find replacement parts for your tub on ebay or even by posting here in these forums. actually if you cannot rectify your problems with some Future, PM me and I can probably give you the parts you need, ive got a big stash of 1/8 scale parts plus more than one kit that I use just for parts and I never liked the big huge windshield so probably have the parts you need. jb
  5. ps: colgate or any other abrasive toothpaste is just the same as very fine polishing compound. it is a very mild abrasive. nothing magic about it. and you do realize that to polish the fog out you will have to disassemble the entire windshield or pieces of it and then basically manhandle them. then put them back together which will probably result in more of a mess than you currently have. reach for the Future like the first reply said...he called it more by its current name though. jb
  6. forget all that hard work. get some Future or whatever it may be called and brush a light coat of it on the piece. the fog will disappear like when you put alcohol on it but it will not come back. next time coat or brush the windshield with future to begin with and it won't fog, or use future to glue the pieces into the frame (might not be strong enough for 1/8 scale pieces. jb
  7. anyone know of a vendor making and selling 1/8 scale weber sidedraft carbs? I think shapeways offers some but if I recall correctly they look like downdraft ones. thanks in advance jb
  8. >They didn't seem like they were too happy with Blue Beetle retool......gone already and not to return. how about some evidence of that? how is it "gone already" and especially "not to return"? and how exactly do you "know" this with enough certainty to post it like you really know and believe it? if its some "industry" gossip from "insiders", then it probably isn't true. and I don't know how someone can say with any certainty at all that a newly revived kit is "not to return". that sounds to me like industry generated hype to help clear the shelves so they can reissue it again soon. in other words, pure BS. all too common around here these days, if you ask me. jb
  9. you are welcome Scott, one of the better build up articles I have seen in the magazine in the past few years. doesn't anyone here read the magazine? sometimes it sure seems not jb
  10. with the amount that I ride my real motorcycle, it might as well be a model. then it would be easier to move and wouldn't have to do maintenance on it. and it would look weathered. jb
  11. I use micron pens too, but at the time I first bought these Gundam markers they were the only I knew of. then I visited a real art supply store. jb
  12. wasn't there recently (last year or so) a at-least-2-part article in this magazine called Model Cars or something about building and modifying this very kit, to make it look like it wasn't designed in Checzsolvakia? I thought there was. jb
  13. >You're right, good idea for a thread. He wasn't the only one <followed by a photo of Roth in Tweedy Pie> well that's totally out of context because not only did Roth always tell everyone he bought the car more or less like it was, he also added his own personal touches, which imo really make the car, to it after he got it. so its not like George Barris. At all. though he could be accused of employing geniuses and then putting his name on what they came up with...kind of like how all companies of substance do it. though in eds case I remember back then knowing who dirty doug and ed "newt" newton were so it wasn't like he was hiding it...like Barris. jb
  14. you miss my point. I said this current subject release is childish drivel, regardless of who designed it. I said that mentioning Ed Roth in that context was blasphemy. I didn't say the design of the current subject was blasphemy nor the designer. it doesn't have anything to do with how nice someone is. just wanted to clarify my thoughts jb
  15. I have used those for a number of years. if you keep them tightly sealed, I wrap masking tape around the cap seam when its being stored, they will work for a long time, a year or more. leave the cap off for a little too long and they seem to dry right up. there are differing size tips, or at least there were, I have gone over to using india ink with a quill sort of pen instead. they are probably basically india ink, the mark wipes off clean before it dries but once it dries it is pretty permanent. best way to use it I have found it to use it, let it dry, then go over the area with 12000 grit polishing cloth and it will just leave the fine line down inside the panel line. it is insoluable enough to then shoot lacquer over it without it spreading all out like sharpie will do but I would advise thin coats at first. jb
  16. I believe it has all the old parts plus new top options, so best of both worlds jb
  17. looks like some chickens walked around on it while it was still wet, but I am pretty sure that is supposed to simulate undercoat, and probably does the job as well or better than other kits. still like everyone says, pretty much common knowledge that these are old kits that R2 are bringing out and they are only sporadically improving them in any real way. I mostly avoid them unless I know what I am getting into or just don't care, want the kit and will work with the expected imperfections. jb
  18. to put Ed Roths work on a plane with this kind of juvenile drivel is blasphemy on the memory of Mr Roth. jb
  19. hey at least its got attractive/deceptive box art! and can you show us some of that drug induced engraving on the chassis? I can't figure out if you are serious or not. jb
  20. Roy Sorenson just published the 2015 NNL West annual, he did one in 2013 but none for 2014, so I am glad to see it back. check out HPs on-demand service MagCloud, sorry I don't have a link handy edit to add: there is a link to the annual on this page: http://www.nnlwest.org/ and it evidently includes bogus, I mean "bonus" coverage of 2014 too. edit again to add: though this publication seems to have usurped the photo coverage that usually appears, for free, on the page linked above. kind of jive if you ask me but I guess someone has to make money on it somehow. now it seems they don't even publish links to others photos, and the free coverage was very sparse last year as well. jb
  21. thanks Chuck, if you find the photos please do post them, even though chances of finding this kit at appropriate price seem pretty slim. by "appropriate" I mean in the range of maybe 20 - 30 dollars jb
  22. silk purse from the sows ear on this one! those two look great! jb
  23. Premier eh? based on reputation, I would say no thanks, but could you expand on what to expect from the kit? jb
