well, that 29 ford from Revell is getting my money, and I also see the Surfite is being reissued evidently with a new Ed Roth figure (on box art?), so that's tempting. if that 1/25 auto transporter has been around before, does anyone know if its large enough to comfortably hold 1/24 cars? and I assume be able to take them in and out (as opposed to having to build the transporter around them? that looks pretty kool and the ford station wagon. so for me I would say there is some gold in them thar hills jb

I liked the pics, of course some great models there. what was the turn out like? approx. how many spectators (non-entrants) were there vs people who entered models? I take it there were probably less spectators than somewhere like the NNL West where a lot of people come just to shop the swap meet. I am asking because it looks like there was a lot of spare space on the tables and in the aisles. is this event even advertised to the "general public"? wish I could have gone; I just got back from a month in Utah but couldn't justify heading that far north for something I didn't have anything with me to enter in the show. I went to the museum back when it was in SLC but that had to be close to 15 years ago, or more. I am sure it has come a long ways since then. jb

I will elect to say something: Muy no bueno. but it doesn't really matter to me anyhow...however I hope the forthcoming kits don't have this feature. jb

I would not necessarily bet that AMT had that right at all, especially if it shows otherwise in photos of actual cars. I think there were many economies of convenience in those old tools. jb

Tamiya Mercedes 300SL Announced, new pics added to OP
jbwelda replied to martinfan5's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
please post a link when you know of one thanks jb -
you know, its kind of funny. I pointed out a big "Ferarri" on the cover of the magazine one time, a few years ago, both here and in personal emails, and a couple of months later the issue with part two came out. big "Ferarri" on its cover too. draw whatever conclusions you like. just for the record, I believe its "Ferrari". I am afraid I have not seen the issue at hand though, I started buying the years issues at the end of the year to assure undamaged delivery. another subject for another thread. jb

What Do New Kits Have Inaccuracies
jbwelda replied to 69NovaYenko's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
>Moebius has positioned itself to be a low volume boutique manufacturer. They are avoiding big box type retailers and going for the >niche market of high end modelers. five dollars makes the difference between a "big box type retailer" and the "niche market of high end modelers"? no, it doesn't. especially not at the 25 vs 30$ level. and that isn't the only example of illogical thinking in this thread, nor the worst. mostly its the elitist attitude that rubs me the wrong way. jb -
something from Pocher...big, expensive, fragile. jb

Source for old/discontinued kits
jbwelda replied to aurfalien's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
keep an eye on fred sterns place, sooner or later what you want will pass through there. jb -
I built one of these back in the early 90s when I was just getting reintroduced to model building. went together very well though as mentioned kind of fragile. I believe I used some Dunlop aftermarket tires so hopefully I dodged the melting tire bullet. I mostly built it OOB but did wire the engine, I think I ran some brake lines and stuff like that. this kit hasn't been in production in a long time, has it? jb

1/25 Revell '29 Model A Roadster 2'n'1
jbwelda replied to mrknowetall's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
when is this coming out again? I will be first in line for a couple at least. great set of parts plus pretty much everything is top of my must use list. dig those headers! jb -
those expensive kits? if you get patience and keep looking and looking strategically, and know how to bid, you will find one sooner than later for a price you might be willing to pay. the box might be messed up or missing, or maybe the kit is partially assembled, but I know that every kit I have looked for I have found and bought well below what they "go for". its a matter of staying on the case until the right one turns up. probably with a misspelled auction title or something like that. and that is usually good enough for me since I will be building it anyhow. recent example was I picked up the revell "parts pack" mooneyes dragster and altered (I forget exactly) with a bit of a messed up box but everything there, plus there was a sprue of the dragster chassis parts with a couple parts used (actually the same as a sprue in the kit but that one was not chrome, they did not plate the chassis stuff in the kits for some reason), this parts pack goes for 30 - 60 itself regularly) for about 35$ plus shipping. the kit usually brings near a hundred bucks but in this case no one was interested (or noticed it somehow). jb

this is a neat car! I built one but I just built it out of the box with minimal mods, which means it looks pretty breezy from the side view! its one I would love to do a proper job on one day. those stars...I would make a mold of them by pressing some silly putty against them and then pouring some mixed 5 minute resin in that mold. shouldn't be a big deal. then just sand them smooth, might be a good idea to drill some locater holes like suggested, and continue with your body smoothing. its gonna be like a boat in a bottle to get the interior painted and installed with the body sealed and painted. jb

oh so is THAT what "c-ing" a frame looks like! I usually just call that grinding the hell out of it with a dremel! nice project Bernard. especially like those offset front wheel mounts. I need to do something like that to a project I got going. jb

they (Floyd) never surpassed Pipers At the Gates of Dawn. but of course that was an entirely different thing than they were doing later, in stadiums with big inflatable animals and lots of effects loops. jb

Model at the dump?
jbwelda replied to chunkypeanutbutter's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
whats with the problem with it being at the dump? people throw away a lot of perfectly good stuff...go to the dump sometime and take a look around. as far as it being dirty, its probably no dirtier than something at a random garage sale. hell I would grab it in a second, if it was something I wanted or thought someone I knew wanted. then if I was feeling germophobic, I would spray some Lysol on it. I doubt I would waste the Lysol though. jb -
so whats with this can't make up their mind about whether it is 1/24 or 1/25 scale business? I mean, its one or the other...why if it is 1/24 does it say, plain as day, 1/25 on the box? is it that they (mfg, in this case I would assume Round 2) just don't care? kind of like I don't because its such a small difference in most cases...but its not me putting out the kits. you would think they would get that right, or at least consistent. maybe its because the American "standard" seems to be 1/25 and they want to fit in? still...writing it on the box top does not the contents make. jb

no doubt, a year is REALLY pushing it. jb -
trademark KR sound, heres what he used one time when I was around, note the two tube amplifiers to the lower left, that's final output to achieve "vintage" tonality and also 50s spring reverb on top of cabinet. Ronnie wood had a similar set up right next to it. jb
