  1. uh, well, this all seems to be news to the people at tower hobbies. the gal i just spoke to said they have free shipping on certain items but only those items. no "free shipping" banners (which i did not and still do not see), no secret promo codes that she would divulge, no free shipping on anything but "certain" items. so...pretty bogus info all around as i would say, and certainly contradictory to 90% of the messages in this thread. just sayin. i am not sure where you people are getting your info but it doesnt jive with what i get direct from the horses mouth. kinda funny way to run a business but i guess beggars cant be choosers. ok so i went to the link above (where i went yesterday and made my order) and sure enough now there is a banner saying free shipping and giving a code to use. so i call them back and say whats up with that. the gal (a different one from the first time) says "thats not our website". i say well its got your logo and its got your name and thats where i ordered from and thats where i got my order number you just looked up and verified but somehow its not your site? c'mon now, lets get serious. she insists their website is www.towerhobbies.com not the one above. and that it takes 150$ worth of order to make it free shipping. blah blah blah...in short none of this makes sense and i told her so. she wasnt even consistent with what the first woman told me (insert woman jokes here). i dont think i will be doing any more shopping with these folks if they are this confused about their website and this other, supposedly "not theirs" website, that just somehow manages to link to the website they say is theirs. this is what is known as BS in the trade. and i am short on patience with this sort of BS. she did say she would bring it up with someone monday morning but at this point i am not holding my breath. 10$ is not the end of the world but this lack of clarity is telling me not to use this place anymore and they are losing at least one customer over that 10$.
  2. i find it kinda strange that revell would try to pull that off...using the wrong body style but so obvious graphics to misidentify the car like that. just strange if they thought they were going to be able to get away with it without anyone who did even a little bit of research kinda noticing the big difference in the body styles. could it be they had another car, a coupe, in the same livery? doesnt sound likely but if not then this could be seen as an extreme foot-in-the-mouth moment for revell. i mean it doesnt affect my enjoyment of the kit, but it just seems strange marketing.
  3. i think that injection on your kart is superb harold. really really excellent looking, easy to believe it was a photo of a full size set up instead of a miniature recreation.
  4. just went through with my order anyhow...i got charged 9.99 for shipping. kind of a drag. guess i have to call them tomorrow and grovel. i hate this kinda stuff. i paid via paypal...i wonder if that had anything to do with it?
  5. how exactly do you invoke this free shipping? i just rang up an order for nearly 100$ and they still wanted 9.99 shipping. what am i doing wrong?
  6. excellent...was that built in the sixties or more recently? very clean looking. and yeah i wish they would reissue this especially since they reissued the big tub of all things! and note that parts pack that has much of what made the big drag does not, from what i recall anyhow, have the center steering setup that was in the big drag kit.
  7. this is incredible! what are your plans for this if and when its "done"? are you going to take it out and show it or just use and enjoy it at home? it would certainly shock and awe an in-person audience, especially with some nice build ups inside it. it is plain spectacular!
  8. well its certainly not going to compete with harolds build there (super dooper by the way!) but heres the newer issue motor used in another context: i think its a kool kit and certainly parts are usable but like others say its a bit of a challenge especially if you start looking closely. i remember building up the original as a kid and it turned out pretty good for my limited skill set in the basement at 13 years old.
  9. nice start! that motor is gonna look great!
  10. i couldnt see the first one then and i cant see either of them now. maybe you have to have some kinda account somewhere? edit nevermind, i can see it when i paste the url into my browser and i can see that last one. kind of a letdown actually!
  11. ed roth surfite:
  12. yeah and willie nelson, bless his heart, recent released a song called "roll me up and smoke me when i die" or something similar. good on ya willie!
  13. i dont even get it. that looks way more like a space suit or as someone suggested an aircraft carrier deckhand suit than it does a prison jumpsuit. now if they had a young charlie manson fresh from boys town that would be something.
  14. so i take it someone deemed my (imho) fairly well reasoned reply beyond the pale and it got exiled? ok...kool.
  15. why in this day and age anyone supports this hellhole for the sake of a couple cents savings is beyond me.
  16. take a hint from the american indian experience: smash that thing right now and cut off its landing gear and stick it in its input port then post pics on all social media sites. seriously. it just gets worse from here.
  17. we call that "scope creep" where i work. not really conducive to getting something actually finished! that frame looks great and one of these is an excellent place to use some of that midget racer components that are so nice and that small flattie will look great there.
  18. i am sticking with my mini guess...its pretty obvious those doors, rear windows and overall appearance bear a strong resemblance to one. quite possibly an italian-built or at least designed variant from the looks of it.
  19. it looks like an austin/morris mini derivative to me, possibly an Innocenti?
  20. not seeing your photos...
  21. >Also have a historic set, now worth over $3,000.00' 5 vehicles in the set. uh huh. good luck on that.
  22. > it doesn't seem like it has been that long since they came out congratulations, you are officially old, because that remark is a defining characteristic of "old". i love matchbox but i always preferred Dinky Toys and later Corgi cars. Still matchbox had some nice stuff like the classic XKE in candy red.
  23. tamiya? very nice job on that roof, thats a lot of tedious masking to do unless i dont get how its done.
  24. im sorry if this was covered before and i was too lazy to see it, but how "tom daniels"-ized is that badman chevy? by that i mean, is it cartooned up a lot like most of his designs or is it more down to earth and an actual decent reproduction of a chevy gasser? how is the motor and chassis detail? thanks for any guidance, usually i dont mess with tom daniels stuff but this one looks nice judging from the artwork anyhow.
  25. Heres the AMT version, without the kool shroud for the racer version: thanks again for all the info, and tim thats a great archive of a great build!
