When I was a member of a local model car club, I started a white elephant gift exchange for a Christmas party. We did this in December and then presented out built 'elephants' in February. This was my fantasy F5000 Eagle from a number of years ago. I made the 'Bianco Pacoderm Racing Team' Decals on my ALPS and added details from my parts bin. This started as the MPC 1968 Indy Eagle.

Schroeder steering gear?
mrindy77 replied to VW Dave's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
I believe the unit in the Monogram sprint cars are all the same and they are KSE. They look similar but the are not a Schroeder. I've contemplated scratch building one and casting...if that comes to fruition I will post here. -
Ford Poppy red was the same color AJ Foyt used on all of Indy Cars. This is well documented. Look at some pics of his 1977 Indy 500 winning Coyote and compare them to you pro stock. Foyt coined this color "Coyote" red.

I'm not real familiar with the pro touring scene and I have question regarding this style. Do they typically run them without inner fender wells? I would think if they get driven it would beat the heck out of the fenders from road klag. Did you have to leave them off the car to get it to sit right? Thanks, just curious.

How did you get started in model building?
mrindy77 replied to slusher's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
My dad built model cars in his youth and continued to build as an adult. I think it was 1973 or 74 when we he purchased this MPC 1/72 Wildcat kit for me. He helped me build it during the Super Bowl of that year. From then on I was hooked. I started building WWII airplanes in 1/72...then 1/48...I think I built every Monogram airplane there was. Then I started building military...we stopped one year at Squadron Hobby in Illinois on a family vacation...wow...I never knew there were so many models. While displaying my dioramas in a local mall/show I was introduced to the Model Car Club of Minnesota...from then on it was cars...I always have had an affinity for cars as my dad took me to car shows but I had never seen the detail that these guys were doing. From early 1984 it has been model cars. I've never taken a break from modeling...in fact it became a full time job for 2 years. This was the first kit... -
Cookily cool.

Short Track Camaro Nose?

Fred's Resin Workshop....he no longer sells parts. -
I'm leaving the roof on. You can call it a coupster if you are so inclined.

I've had this one on the back burner for while. Time to start making some progress. This is the initial mock up, its a AMT 1925 Model T, its an older one that was molded in black. I used the Edmunds modified front grille and scratch built a belly pan. Tires are Herb Deeks big and littles with some kidney bean Halibrands I found in the parts box. I'm going to stuff a Ford DOHC Indy motor from the Gurney Eagle kit into it. Tight fit but it appears it will work.

Pretty much done with resin.
mrindy77 replied to cobraman's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
After reading this thread, it was like peeling the scab off an old wound. I too have waited 3+ years to receive product from a resin caster. I doubt I will ever receive the order for 3 Indy cars. The resin caster has left a swath of unshipped orders in our little Indy car model building community. We were also Facebook 'friends', and when I questioned the where about of my order I was unfriended. I have a string of private emails from the Indy car blog I am a member of and it is almost comical the response I'd get after questioning where my order was. All just stringing me along until I no longer had any recourse via Paypal or Ebay. I can sympathize with anyone who has been cheated out of money by so called fellow modelers. Caveat Emptor. -
Chasing Cars with Wayne Carini is probably my most watched. I like the cars and event coverage. Ass Monkey Garage is the worst and Richard Rawlings can go squat on a cactus...he is just a coked up wannabe. Legendary Motorcars is ok but Peter Klutt's Canadian accent is like finger nails on the chalkboard...arggh.

I think there is too much 'dead space' in the diorama. In other words, too much area where nothing is going on. You could make the base half the size and incorporate the same elements. A diorama needs to draw the viewer into the scene and tell a story. What story are you telling? What in this scene draws me in to look at other elements. The moss seems...well...like moss dumped into the scene. In this scale foliage really needs to look like real foliage. Maybe the rusted 40 could have flat tires, or no rims. Don't forget that basic modeling principles still apply when rusting out car, mold part lines still need to sanded, etc. It looks like a finger print in the rear bumper dent. Every little detail in the diorama needs to build upon itself. See if you can find a book called 'How to build dioramas' by Shep Paine. Although it is geared towards a military modeler he was without a doubt one of the best.

Black is the best color for this prancing horse. Nice job.

Interesting...more reminiscent of a Pikes Peak hill climb car of the period than an Indy Car.

I believe I read somewhere that they pretty much trashed the car after the video. Somehow they managed to backfire back through the blower and destroy it. The "Hot for teacher" painted on the side left a ghost image after it was removed.Dings and knicks in the body and paint. I thought I had read that in an old issue of Street Rodder.

Bill Jenkins' Black Arrow 1965 Belvedere
mrindy77 replied to Jim_Kampmann's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Well, this is funny, when Garrett and I were looking at the cars he mentioned he really liked that one. I took a photo for him...I did not know it was yours. I never really looked at any of the build sheets. LOL. -
Cute Corvair...in looking at your engine compartment it appears you forgot the radiator.

Those BRM engines were some really wicked sounding beasts. Cool model.

Nice to meet you as well...it was nice to see the completed model in person. My son, Garrett, liked your model as well.

Nice show, I did get to talk to Kerry Ingram and put face to the name. I printed the decals for his Social Circumcision rod. The venue seems small and space is at a premium. Maybe the check in could be done outside the room where the models are to free up some more space for tables for models. The juniors table was packed as were a few others. Maybe staff could assist with arranging cars on the tables to provide more room. Not sure the PA and music system is warranted as it takes up space and is rather noisy in an already small noisy room. I think this NNL has outgrown its space, especially if they plan on 400 more cars next year. Don't get me wrong, we had fun and met some fellow modelers...just providing constructive critique for next years event.

It looks like you found a pretty good match for the Mickey Thompson font on the rear quarter. What font did you use.? i could not find a suitable one to make decals with.
