The real car....Jeez, even I can paint better than that! Michael
-
Bruce, Got it! At least it's a Revell '32 3 Window Coupe. The model on the box is a stock black one, with American mags. Killer! This model as well as 3 others are on the way. Thanks. Michael
-
Yep, those are the ones! Thanks Gregory! Man, how good do those headers look? Cast iron too. Michael
-
What a beautiful model! You say out of the box, which box is it? Which model maker? Can you post a pic of the box? I really want to get several hot rods and gassers as well, could you tell us which manufacturer? Thanks, Michael
-
Now that's a fact. A wonderful collection, and you've started very well. Gassers, altereds and Hot Rods. I love them all. Michael

"Uhhh, hey waitress, I'll like to order of a couple of 32's if you don't mind, easy on the chrome though, and no flat heads". "You only have two left? Well, add a side order of 34's too". Thanks. Michael
-
Amazing, all of them! OK guys, I'm kind of ignorant and slow to comprehend. Where do you get this grill material? Please tell. Michael
-
Jeez! That Model is so cooooool. 33 Willys! I love it. Is it a resin body? The 33 Willys is my favorite gasser. I couldn't even imagine having a 33 as a street rod. Beautiful model. Michael

Hi Joshua, first of all you get 10 extra points for choosing a Mopar for your first build! Is that BMF I see on the roof trim? I think it's all about the small details, do lots of them and it adds up to make a model more fun to look at for a longer time. As mentioned earlier, the casting lines on the motor halves are important, and as far as possible check every single piece for excess flash, then trim the stuff off before gluing, and afterward as well if any is left. I like the model, as time moves on you'll learn more and more. I have learned already lots of things right here on this forum. Good to have you around. Michael

Hi Dan, I like these kind of builds! Thanks too for the tip with brake fluid. Have fun. Michael

Hi Niko, What's wrong with the orange 409? Looks good to me. The pieces do not fit well, agreed. Fill the cracks between the heads/intake/block/pump etc. and get on with it. I like to dissolve rest casting frames and pieces in ethyl acetate, in other words, the stuff glue is made of. It dissolves plastic when immersed, and you can just brush it on to fill cracks. I do think though, the 409 was offered with 2-4's in 1961. I think the 409 was always available as a 2 carb option. That's what made the 409 so fine. She's so fine, the 409. Michael

Humbrol Green paint super thick
10thumbs replied to youpey's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Monty, it's #19, Humbro Gloss. It's killer in my book! I have a 64 Plymouth Belvedere, or a 64 Resin Savoy that just cries for this red. Michael -

Hi Monty. Sorry for the delay in replying. I've posted the color here recently, let me do a looky. Soon. Michael -
Renault Dauphine. Yep, over here in Europe they were everywhere! I've even ridden in the back seat of one before, there isn't much room, but still 4 doors! Actually, the car was as comfortable as you could possibly imagine. Nice velour seat coverings and economical as heck. Typical Euro Car from the period. Economical, a family could fit in there, and small enough to get through very crowded old cities. By the way, the car was not slow! Interesting build. Michael

Hi John, good info about the panel lines. You're doing thorough prep work. Hey, about the thickness of the fenders. Maybe you misunderstand. 3 inches of steel....that's just Ma Mopars idea about being bulletproof. 3 inches of steel....Obama and his ride won't even come close. Michael

Humbrol Green paint super thick

I recently opened up old Humbrol paint tins I found in my cellar. I'm talking vintage 1975. They're still good! I did add some thinner though to some of them. The gloss paints are in excellent condition. The flats are pretty dried out, no sense in using them. The hit is, there's a red gloss that is the most beautiful red I've seen in a while, and in excellent condition. I'm spraying it soon! Michael -
I was going to ask about the A/A? Wouldn't that ride be an A/D? I love the old rail dragsters. Michael

Was this the model that had a clear plastic body? Wynn's Jammer rings a bell. I built that one as a kid, maybe '64 or '65. I remember painting the clear plastic from underneath with black gloss. Terrific! Michael

Charlie Smith's Plain Vanilla 25T A/Altered from 1964

Wonderful! Man, where do you guys only get these models? I know you bashed it, but even then....how long has it been in your stash? Michael -
Hello Gene, wonderful background info! The older drag cars had so much character, and the pics from back in the early 60's show often the way it was. Especially on non-NHRA dragstrips. The local dragstrips down south where the Big Hitters didn't go. As a kid I was nuts about a fairly local racer who often ran a B/Gas Anglia. Injected SBC, middle blue pearl type paint, and blue tinted plexiglass. A real beauty, and an absolute hit to watch. Also a couple of years later, the AFX Match Races! Then the big hitters would run what they brung! Cool! Enjoy your build, you got lots of folks looking. Michael

Hello Lee, Nice job, it looks like you still have the touch, got the motor with plug wires and the build looks real clean, I like it! You and I are pretty much in the same boat, and techniques and detailing have gotten a lot finer. Lets move on and go with the flow, and whoop out some good clean cars! Your start back in the game has gone well. Greetings, Michael

Red Interiors....Difficult?
10thumbs replied to 10thumbs's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
UPDATE.. Hello guys, Here's a pic of the finished interior. I applied as well as for me at this time the tips acquired here on this thread. Different red tones, flat, gloss and semi gloss. all mixed. I had to go with "carpet" on the back of the interior because the paint job (brush) just showed too many dust particles and junk so that I couldn't use plain paint. After all, it is a race car, without other seats. My first attempt with BMF and carpet, as well as acrylic paints with an air brush. I'm very happy, and I want to thank those that offered help, as well as those who posted some red interior pics. I'll post more of these shots on my ongoing build thread, Color Me Gone. Please feel free to offer criticism. Michael -

It's all OK, Nick. Read Brett's post, just before yours. Maybe that might help you a bit. Michael
