  1. JC, nice work so far . tires and wheels look perfect .
  2. thanks Kenneth, nice work on your r-model . you might want to start over with the Monogram/ Revell r-model kit. it will comes with correct back window, but i would use the resin cast front apron. way better then kit apron . the good tail lamps with seperate red lense come in the 1/25 amt mustang kit. a little work on engine compartment and a look at future decals.
  3. WOW ! This photo set is awesome . Photo's i have never seen and great reference for the square back mustang and about 10 other cars that i would like to build models of. Model looking good JC, the Foyt car looks like they didn't bother flaring fenders and just cut them up high. Bill
  4. this is a cool build and i don't know why a model company has not made all the early trans am racing cars.
  5. thanks Phil. the ride height may be correct with stock model kit, but i like it with a little bit lower stance. i grind down back of frame rails to get leaf springs just a little bit lower. maybe hard to see tire clearance in photo.
  6. JC, looking good so far . All Detroit lockers in early Shelby's were 9 inch diffs. Even the 65 Shelby street model had Detroit lockers and there are stories of new owners thinking the car was broke because of how a locker works, bangs , clanks and makes the tires chirp at low speeds. i have owned a couple locker equipped cars and they are interesting to say the least
  7. JC, should be a cool project. Never thought of going with the AMT 67 Shelby gt 350 kit, looks like it fits very well with just a few minor modifications.
  8. my second attempt at dash is coming out a little better, i cut a little less off dash but still had to fill in hole above where the radio would be. still need to cut out glove box hole and add radio delete cover. cut out new door panels from thin plastic sheet and a few other modifications are cutting off fire extinguisher from roll bar and removing battery from engine compartment.
  9. Maxx, a cool bit of history. now for my next challenge... getting rid of dash pad. anyone make a correct r-model dash?
  10. thanks Steve, i have a couple decal makers in mind but have not pulled the trigger yet. but will post what i come up with. so far i have an excellent LeMans set from V-R-M and a few from Platto's Place.
  11. josh, the decals look very crisp (V-R-M quality) but have not used yet, so i don't know how user friendly they are. to me the wheels are the highlight of the kit with polished aluminum rims with metal inserts. tires are black resin cast and are ok, but will most likely go with a bigger rubber tire.
  12. super clean build and excellent paint work, nice job.
  13. Maxx, the kit comes in just a plain white box and here are all the contents except intake manifold, oil pan and alternator that were used on 1 engine.
  14. thanks Josh velocity stacks are from Thunder Valley Miniatures trans kit. they can be found on e-bay from time to time. the kit comes with 4 stack ( don't know why) but they are aluminum and look much better then plastic.
  15. after many days of work, 9 engines ready to go.
  16. thanks Trevor, it has been slow going. a little progress on engines.
  17. i also agree, looks like an IMC kit. here is the 1/24 body by Fisher Model and Pattern. exactly 6 inches long. the car in real life is very small so makes for a small model kit.
  18. thanks Maxx Josh, yes another ambitious project that i hope everyone enjoys following. the research is something i really like and it's like un-covering a mystery. i knew nothing about this Orange Blossom Special car. i just knew i wanted to build it. with much internet searching i found vin number. turns out the current owner is a member of my local Nor-Cal Shelby club and i have seen this car race at Sears Point and Laguna Seca. the owner is very cool and sent me rare photo's . i still can't make out hood decal and just may delete it . Orange /Black is current restored car.
  19. Maxx, the valve covers are from the r-model Monogram/Revell kit . i just scratch built the oil filler neck with plastic styrene rod and cap made from scrap parts tree.
  20. thanks Rex, that' s at lot of articles ! i have some great reference photo's but always looking for more info and photo's . Really interested in the Orange Blossom Special car and only have the 1 picture. not too much progress on building, just researching and searching for decals. started to modify the valve covers with long filler neck. update- with a little searching on the internet , i found another picture of Orange Blossom Special. ( Unexpected Ponysite ) car has big 79 on quarter panel and car started as a street car 5S307
  21. i don't have a serial number for the top car and i don't own a Shelby Mustang Registry book. but i do know it was campaigned by Dan Moore from 68-72. also do not have serial number for the #94 car but picture is from 1970 24 of Daytona car driven by Don Cummings and Warren Stumes. i have the decals for Le Mans car and they look very good. no decals for Mexico car but did find Amalie Racing Oil sponser decals.
  22. maxx, that is a long list ! Most R-model Shelby's had a basic paint job with just a number and a B next to it. i don't have a set plan for decals yet , but hope to build the more colorful and different versions
  23. yes 2 1/25 scale AMT kits. i would like a couple 1/24 scale coupes , but i don't think they were made in that scale.
