Hi all , Got an Amazon gift card to spend, and I figure I need a decent >cheap< camera with a macro capability to share my builds with everyone. So.. Gonna buy it off Amazon (I have Prime too). Don't need many bells and whistles, the thing will ONLY be for internet posting. Needs to take decent close-ups -what, maybe two inches away? Don't need a zillion megapixels.. That's bout it. Thanks in advance! Chip

Side mirrors, utility tail lights?
DrGlueblob replied to dave2aptc's topic in Truck Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
The Monogram CJ-7 Jeep kit has the taillights you need, nice lenses and all. -
Hobby Room/Workbench questions
DrGlueblob replied to AMT4EVR's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I like OTT Lights. Have an OTT near where you paint, and you'll get true color light as opposed to the blue-ish flourescents. OTTs are expensive, but one is enough to go along with your other lighting sources. -

MPC kit? That's pretty neat! How'd you like the kit? -

Anyone get the MPC (Hogan's Heroes) Jeep reissue? It's the cleanest, flash-free kit I've seen in a long time.

Building for your 1st Big model show HELP
DrGlueblob replied to Alger1x's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
A tip.. After you've finished the model, put it in a box for a week. Then take it out and look it over for any Dust Bunnies, glue smears, mis-aligned stuff, etc.. But get the project off your mind for a week and you'll find you're going to see things you missed. And like everyone has said, don't take this contest stuff too seriously. IJAH! (it's just a hobby) -
Mine is made by UMM and is just right for my hand. I can manage tight curves and it is very controllable.

Great job Geoff. Revell has come a long way since their earlier Beetles. I built the Penny Pincher as a Baja, and started the Cabrio Superbeetle before tossing it back in the pile.. Speaking of pile.. This kit is beautiful! I want one..now.

I had a cataract removed from my left eye a few years ago at age 55 . Had to use a lot of Rx eyedrops for a couple weeks, otherwise no sweat. I did develop some "floaters" about a year after the surgery, but that's the breaks. I elected NOT to have Lasik done to the other eye to end the need for glasses. Too many bad outcomes with that. Been wearing glasses since I was 12, so no big ting.

Making a "Big" paint purchase
DrGlueblob replied to Mizozuman2's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
A little bottle of Vaseline is your friend when you use screw-top bottles. Just a dab around the cap each time you seal the bottle up and your paint will not only keep tighter sealed (and last longer), but no more stuck jars. I still have Pactra from high school days (1973).. -
Artgum is a brand name for a little 1" square pencil eraser. You can find it at any art supply store, or someplace like Michaels. I keep a little bar of soap (Motel 6) next to my brushes. after cleaning, a few wet swipes over the bar, then point the brush and store it for the day. The soap dries and keeps the bristles nice for next time. Store your brushes point-up in a jar or whatever.

Joshua, if you use the wet or dry sandpaper wet, it'll last for years. Hobbylinc is a good place to buy from for just about anything. The only dry sanding I use is with 180-600 grit sanding boards from Sally Beauty Supply. They're a lot cheaper there than the hobby shop. Clean your sandpaper/sticks with a plain square "Artgum" pencil eraser. 5/0 is indeed a 00000 brush. Have fun, Redleg.

Just to add, One of my more precious possessions is my old Letteraset catalog, circa 1980. It contains hundreds of fonts that Letteraset offered for graphic designers back then. Today, just download any font ya want and print if off. "Juan Chott" is still the Gold Standard of lettering sign paints, IMHO.

Printing or casting figures
DrGlueblob replied to Cato's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Check out books by Katherine Dewey. She makes great figures out of Sculpey/Fimo. Might be easier on the wallet than CAD/Casting.
