I never had children, but if I had a kid, when he or she turned 15, I planned to give 'em a nice motorcycle.. -in seven or so cardboard boxes of parts. And a shop manual and basic set of tools. I got darn near everything that same way when I was a kid. I started mowing the neighbor's yards, then one day I noticed this old BSA in the back of a guy's garage.. He had taken the engine apart and couldn't figure out where to go from there ..Que the big little kid smile I noticed that approximately every 10th house had a basket case motorcycle, sooooo... Soon, my folk's backyard had a dozen different bikes.. Vespas, BSAs, Triumph, Hodakas, and a bunch of Japanese stuff. I became a half-fast bike wrench in a few years from that. Bugs are just as easy to teach a young'un how a machine works. If you build/fix it yourself, you're gonna appreciate it more, as well as catch the Gearhead Flu we all have on this site. Build it, ride it, love it 'till I die. -Put that on my tombstone, amigos.

I've been making models for now, some 50 years. I have literally thousands of kits and tools I've picked up along the way. I was a Silversmith and commercial artist, and many new modeling tools came from those endeavors. I still use tools from 40 years ago. (You should see all the clothespins!).. Nothing goes to waste if I can help it. Money spent on all this? -Thousands.. Fun I have and had, -Priceless.

My Dad would go hunting quail and from about eight or so, he would get me in the drivers seat of this Chevy Apache pickup, put te truck in granny gear, jump on the roof next to his buddy Donald, and I would steer the beast over miles of Arizona dirt road.. In addition to steering, my other job was to fetch beers from the ice chest alongside and hand 'em up to Dad and Don. This was around ..1964.. I was riding motorcycles around Phoenix at 13. No license, natch. By High School it was a Triumph Bonneville, Cushman Eagle, Bultacos.. Anything I could scrounge as a basket case and get running. One rich kid had a Plymouth Superbird, Brand new. By now it's 1974, and everyone else drove Chevelles, VW's, All kinds of '60s iron. I was one of the few bikers to hang with the HS crowd. Last kiddie car I had was a '71 Dodge Coronet four-door police interceptor. With that big 440 I could do longer burnouts outta Central High School's parking lot than anybody, even that Yuppie's Superbird. .. Nowadays, I keep my old links to juvenile delinquency with a 1700+cc Yamaha Warrior and a 600 Honda Supermoto.

Those karts are pretty fast. We had a model building session area maybe 50 feet from the track.. -Lots of young budding Phoenix Commuter Road-Ragers out there, crashing with a loud BOOM every few minutes ..

It's just west of the old location. The venue is really huge.. Think, empty Big Box Store.. The place is as good as it gets for what we do. Reasonable motels are just 10-15 minutes away.

Funny.. I just started on a 1990 issue Revell VW/Golf racecar. The Dave Rosenblum/Valvoline version. I used to have a '77 Rabbit nd it'd be neat to do a stock replica of that hunk-a-junk The flyer says "new tool" ..Hope they did as good a job as the 68' Bug! Life's good.

Since I build all alone in a room in my house, few people know what my hobby is. The folks I do socialize with all build too.

I had a '86. Fine little truck. I was in the new Hobbytown in North Phoenix Saturday, but didn't see one there.

I've had a lot of fun building the previous issue of this kit. Goes together well, looks good. One thing though.. The front suspension is rather fragile, so be careful if you hang bigger tires/wheels on it.
