John, Very Very Nice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't now what the match race scene was like in Canada back in the day. From that era in the U.S. you could never ever build a period correct version of any car. Cars back then were work horses with guys living from pay out window to pay out window! Great Build Mate!!! A large percentage of paint failures stem from the lack of or poor surface preparation of the substrate. Be it your Model, House or the cats tail if the surface is not clean, scuffed or sanded The potential rate for failure is great. Two of the procedures that are often over looked or done poorly are cleanliness and giving the substrate a tooth for your primers and top coats. Cleanliness: The first step in preparing the surface is it a good bath in soap and water. Be careful here, not all soaps are equal. Most soaps contain a scent or perfume, Some of these agents come from the make up sector and contain animal fat. Fat equals grease, grease equals fish eyes or a surface that has a film that acts as a barrier that prevents a true clean surface. The Gold standard of the 1:1 custom paint arena is IVORY original scent dish soap. This is a great product for your first washing and as a lubricant for wet sanding. A few drops in a bucket will help soften your wet/dry paper and will act as a lubricant for easier sanding and aids in paper clogging. Tooth: For any primer or paint to stick to a substrate you need to create a mechanical bond, that process would be through sanding and scuffing the surface to create that tooth for the mechanical bond. A great aid in getting the surface scuffed and dulled to receive the primer and or top coat is Comet Cleanser and or Soft Scrub. After sanding and scuffing follow up with a mixture of water and cleanser to a consistency a little thinner than tooth paste, apply this with a medium bristle tooth brush. You can be fairly aggressive when brushing with this paste. When you are finished with this step wash the subject to remove all residue and dry. All surfaces should be dull (no shiny spots) if you have any areas that are not dull go back and work those area's until they are dull There are many professional products in the 1:1 market that we use on a regular basis and they are part of our arsenal at the shop, We use products by the SEM company, they are SEM Soap and SEM Scuff & Clean, However you will spend more than a few dollars for these professional products (fairly expensive) For a few dollars you can get the same results with household products. I used this method for years, I purchase the SEM products as a convenience and to maintain consistency within our group, a everyone on the same page scenario. EDIT 1/18/16: Like Tom, I often let parts air dry, However I do a final wipe right before I paint with a micro fiber towel dampened with the Iso/water solution. Like Ace, I use paper towel as well....... They have to be pure white, Non Scented and No Ink. both of these will contaminate the surface I use a tack cloth before all applications of primer and paint also between coats I have been using this method or a variation of it for some 40 years and have not had a paint failure due to poor adhesion. Give it a try.......... My Motto: Always use best practices! Respectfully Submitted, Jimmy "RASS"

John, Great Subject Matter..........This build is off the hook, you are truly a master builder........... Lil John would be proud of your efforts. The 1:1 car has much historical value in the days of run what you brung vs the spec cars of today. Although the car was never a success on the track the Monocoque design was unique and inspired by Johns love for INDY cars. I don't want to Hi-Jack your thread. Lil John was a personal friend (he built a car for me) perhaps some history on the car and Lil would be a nice touch. If you are interested in some personal antics of Lil John P.M. me, I'd be more than happy to share. Again Awesome build! Respectfully, Jimmy "RASS"

Mike, Thanks so much! The only decals I will be using is the contingency decals. I will be doing the JJ character and main copy all with a airbrush and brush freehand. I agree forty year old decals would not be good choice. I scanned the original decals and converted them into a vector format so I can cut masks on my plotter to assist me in the airbrushing process. I will check out what's available, however I think have it covered. Again Thanks Jimmy "RASS"

Matthew, Awesome build.......... Jimmy "RASS"

Frank, My Bad........... I just went I the paint cabinet and SG 100 is in fact the intercoat clear! I said it was reducer, The last thing I want to do is give out bad information! I was thinking U 100 which is HOKs Striping & Lettering reducer. We are indeed practically neighbors! I live on the far north side of Racine. Do you belong to any modeling clubs or know of any in the area? "RASS"

Frank, You stated that the Duplicolor is Acrylic Lacquer. If that is in fact the case then any Lacquer thinner can be used for reduction. You can buy Quarts at big box stores for 5 to 7 $ or gallons for 15 to 17 $. when gallons go on sale I typically by 5 gallons at a crack............. I clean all of my spray equipment with it so I use a lot of it. FYI any Lacquer Thinner you by at a big box or hardware store is a low grade thinner or what many painters call a wash thinner. On the totem pole of lacquer thinners these would be at the bottom as far as how aggressive or how hot they are. Perfectly fine for modeling, actually a better choice because the flash rate is fast. Chris: In my mind your panel is a done deal. We need to coordinate efforts. Mike: Do the Slixx decals Show different imagery? The man who painted all of images and lettered all of JJs cars at Circus Paint. Is a fellow pinhead/letterhead and personal friend. MR J I spoke with him about the build and he gave me the recipes for all the paint as far as he can recollect. He thought the decals were a reasonable representation of what he painted years ago. Peace, Jimmy "RASS"

Harry............. Yes, Yes, Yes, and Yes Patient has opened It's eye's

Joe: JJ was my hero in drag racing as well! As I mentioned I witnessed JJ and Pam perform their circus act many times. When JJs car was fired and Pam poured her magic brew under the tires. All were on there feet as you knew it was going to be a long and nasty burnout (not like wippy ones of this era) Thanks for the comment Bob: I found a recent Video of Pam guiding a nostalgia replica back in groove, It is great to see her recent involvement in the sport. She's always been gracious even back in the! IMO she's still got it Chris: My man! Thanks for stopping by and for the information................. FYI The panel offer has no expiration date. Lets talk! As Some of you know I have been a part time Custom Painter since 1974 and have my fair share of awards for my paint work. The picture of the panel is a sample of some of the freehand pinstriped panels I give as gifts, Hopefully I won't get thrown in the pokey for posting Artwork on this thread. All work is done freehand with a brush This will be a bit down the road.......As a twist I will be Micro airbrushing and hand painting the Jungle Caricature and Main Copy Jungle Jim (as depicted on the decal sheet) I will include a tutorial on a process us Airheads call Blow and go. Something different and enjoyable for me. Peace, Jimmy "RASS"
