New from Fond du Lac, Wisconsin
jwrass replied to amoroso1983's topic in Welcome! Introduce Yourself
Russell, The great state of Wisconsin welcomes you! (Racine) I too had a hiatus from modeling, mine was 30 years! My problem is I have like 6 going right now and none of them are near completion, in hindsight I wish I would have kept it to one or two. Great site with much talent!! If you ever need any paint or body advice I can help (see profile) Again, welcome!!! Jimmy "RASS" -

About double posts!!! Does anyone really care!!!! I posted some a couple of weeks ago that have been reposted, don't care! I'm sure I have posted the same lyrics in a different format or maybe in the same format to a song! don't care. In my life I have bigger fish to fry than to go through 302 pages to see if someone has posted it already, REALLY. Maybe it's a new player or someone like me who has a difficult time remembering what I did five minuets ago ( ever go to the basement or garage to get something and ask yourself why am I here, It's kund'a like that) Geez give it a break!!! We all know how smart everyone is!!! All I am saying is give peace a chance Jimmy "RASS"

I was definitely not a deadhead, but liked some of their music. The only GFD music I own is a greatest hits. My nephew is a big deadhead (VW buss, weekend events, yada yada) he turned me some more obscure tunes and I liked some of if but even the Music chart stuff they had I never really shined up to. IMO not any great technical musicians however lyricly they told great stories. It's kind of like me. I'm a huge Zappa fan ( must be the perv in me) but most people don't get it. Frank himself was very technical and gifted, he always had a who's who of gifted musicians (many cameos by greats) that wanted to be around him as well. Dead Head no! Like some of their music yes. Joe, Congratulations on your much deserved victory. If my hand could reach that far, I would shake your hand and THANK YOU for your service to our nation. Consider this a long distance hand shake. As the proud father of a Military Officer (13 years) I know much of the personal sacrifice and the honor Military people have deep within them. Regretfully I never served. I have so much respect for you and all who have Served and are Active Duty. Donating the Dart gave me goose bumps! I'm sure it will be one of her most prized items that she has ever received. May all good things come your way!!! Jimmy "RASS"

I agree that brushes are a personal preference. I'm kind of a brush freak when something new comes along I typically buy it to see if I like it. I personally don't care for anything sable, squirrel is my number one choice however you do pay a premium but you can't beat the performance. When I first started using the Golden Taklons I didn't care for them that much as they do have a bit more snap to them, however the more I use them the more I like them, They are not as forgiving as Sable or Squirrel so if you are a bit shakey these are not for you when it comes to detail work. For the price of the sets I have listed it's not much of a investment to give them a test drive. "RASS"

Tom. Their is some great information on brushes and brush care at Andrew Mack Companies web site. All the information there I agree with 100%, great stuff! I literally have thousands of $$$$$ invested in brushes and I use them almost daily with the type of work I do (see profile) Red Sable and Sable mixes are typically used for water based paints (water colors) Kolinsky Sable can be used with any type of medium, and are a decent brush 80% of the brushes I use are made of the Blue Squirrel hair and are very expensive. They are the F-1 of the brush family. In the Letterhead and Pinstriping Jams that I attend allot of people are using Golden Talkon for their pictorial work, including myself, they have brushes that you can really mop on allot of paint and all the way down to the tiniest brushes for detail. they work in any medium and are very hardy. Not only do they perform fantastic they are dirt cheep. Their are two sets at Michaels I would highly recommend. They are made by Master Touch their is a 6pc detail set SKU # 350595 and 4pc general set SKU #360719. They say timing is everything!!! The only reason I know these #s is I bought some yesterday, they will set you back a whopping $3.99 per set. They can be used in any medium. Lacquers can be easily brushed. You need to thin the paint with a high temp reducer or retarder, I use retarder. You need to carefully load and palette the brush when brushing Lacquers. When you are done with your brushes clean them really well. I do a triple rinse. Oil them with a light oil like 3&1 ( I use a oil specifically made for brushes but a light house hold oil works fine) shape the brush with your fingers and lay them flat. When you go to use them clean them really well with Mineral Sprits to remove all traces of oil. I hope this helps!! Peace Jimmy "RASS"

Henry, Some say TomAto some say Tomato. Both pantone formulas will work. There may be some confusion here, the total sum does not have be 100% of the quantity of the whole. "RASS"

Brian, I'm happy to see that you are experimenting with your paints. I.E. Reducers, Mixes. On all my 1:1 paint work I record all components I put into the paint. This helps me match a custom finishes should it show up for repairs latter, now I'm not going to say you have to do this with models. However while experimenting with brush paint materials log percentages and highlight the one that works best for the material you are using.( A recipe book if you will) Remember not all paints are created equal!!! One color may need more or less reducer to get the results you are looking for. Palette, Palette, Palette!!!! Become one with the brush Jimmy "RASS -

PRIMER Shootout: Plastikote T-235 vs Dupont Nason 421-24
jwrass replied to ismaelg's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Dear Ismael, GREAT post on a subject that gets allot of attention, I have a few posts out their about the benefits of using REAL automotive primers vs the big box products. I have like ten different primers on the shelf that I have been wanted to do side by sides with however you are more ambitious then I am !!!! I've been preaching this since I joined the site! I think as you use the Nason product more and get a feel for the performance you are going to like it much better than what you used in the past and have less paint to primer issues. Thanks for taking the extra time and effort to improve the quality of our builds! Much Appreciated Peace Jimmy "RASS" -
Good Morning Gang!!! #2) From WBW was Time Passages/Al Stewart CZED #5975 I'm sure many posts are repeats! I bet I've done some myself! I spend way to much time on this site the way it is (but I enjoy it) I'm not going to riffle through every post to see if it's a repeat! I see more people participating all the time, they may have not seen any of these. To the younger crowd!!!!! I wish I had more to offer!!!! I pretty much stopped listing to the radio in 2002 when my Daughter went off to college. I know a little Hip Hop, Rap and what we used to call Top Forty ( I don't even know if that still exists) Not a big fan of much of it, However some of it is really good! Saturday Morning Wake Up. That went quick!!!!! #2 & 4, Mr. Avatar ( Harry) #1 & 5, Captain Reverb (#1 Billy Thorpe) #3, Misternemo (Ryan) Have a great day all !!!!! They said it was going to be warn and sunny in Wisconsin today! Looks like rain to me. I can't change it but I'm really getting tired of this extended Winter!!! Al can you hear me!!!!! Ben E King (stand by me) Passes at 76. RIP
