  1. Well, it finally happened. I used up the last of a quart of DuPont clear acrylic lacquer and had to go to my deeply hidden stash for my last quart of HOK clear lacquer. It thins about 1:4 so it should last me a good long time. On the other hand, this is my last gallon of automotive lacquer thinner. I need to guard it with care!
  2. I always found it interesting that Gunze decided it was easier to cast the entire body in clear rather than create a separate canopy piece. Their Isetta is the same way. Nice build!
  3. If I recall right the M8B had a major problem with the hoses and the body work. I seem to recall that if you put all the hoses provided in the kit, on the engine, the rear body work didn't fit
  4. I know I mentioned it before but "Play it again Sam" is probably the most often misquoted line from a movie. For those who are interested and of a certain age here is the actual scene. Still one of my favorite moves!
  5. Louis, I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship. Play it Sam, If she can stand it, so can I. Play it Sam!
  6. They're beautiful aren't they? I don't look at them much anymore. We need a containment unit over here. Do you know what leaves a green spectral trail and craves sugar water? Elvis isn't dead, he's just gone home. Remember the red button. Push the red button! Ohh! Was that your auntie? Have you ever zappy thingied me? NYPD! nock your punk #$$ down!
  7. Funny, I could have sworn he said it in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid also, as they were coming down the mountain, but I could be wrong.
  8. Tap your toes, jump and shout, here come Da Judge, let it all hang out. Verrrrrrry interesting! Sock to me? An now for something completely different! It's just a flesh wound! The bird is dead, deceased, expired! This is a cheese shop isn't it? We want.......a shrubbery.
  9. Lordy, how many movies did he say that in??
  10. Yup, I would much rather be exchanging view on modeling by writing a letter, putting it in the mail box and waiting for a week or two to get a response. Yup, that is what I would like.
  11. Mark, great start! This is going to be a fun club build.
  12. This is going to sound weird, but it is a Tamiya kit. The Ford Focus RS! I have repainted the body at least 5 or 6 times(No I can't remember because I put it aside for a long time while I considered how to resolve the issues) and gone through at least 4 sets of decals. The paint problem had to do this Mica Blue not going into the panel lines properly. Finally wound up spraying a base coat of flat black to get them covered. Then the decals were a pain because the side decals are a good 3" wide and 1.5" tall and go over several "Character grooves, not to mention the fender flairs and panel lines" Finally got my solvent technique down get them on flat. Next was the clear coat. I sanded through it an ruined at least two sheets of decals. I am going to get this bugger done this time!!
  13. What gave it a way to me was the depth of field. Had this been a real photo shot at the apparent distance the pickup should have been in as sharp a focus as the rest of the photo. Also the windscreen wipers on the car are flat.
  14. Well, technically if it is a model it is a diorama. I voted model!
  15. Went to my favorite Starbucks(the one with the patio that is on short final to Palomar Airport) and saw this. Some how I just don't see how owning a shiny new black 458 Ferrari is a handicap!
  16. Just some thing to brighten your morning and encourage Randy to get back to the bench. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TKuNBa4uIpM I shot this years ago at the Holman-Moody garage. This is the Holman-Moody continuation car. Holman-Moody owns all the original GT40 plans and a lot of OEM parts for the Mark II's.
  17. Randy, Those carb linkages are stunning, along with everything else of course! I guess if you are going to make the gaskets to mount the carbs, then getting them right is exactly what you should do. Working butterflies eh! Heck yes man go for it. More stunning work!
  18. People who say something rude or highly inappropriate and they try to cover it up with a tag line at the end of "Just Kidding". It is just an underhanded way of being rude and it really doesn't work. Pseudo-humor is no excuse for being verbally rude to someone. Rude is rude. You can't put chocolate sauce on "stuff" and pretend like it is OK!
  19. All paints change with age and clear is no exception. The real secret to minimizing yellowing is to think of is like a candy coat. The less you put on, the lighter the color change. A very thin coat of clear will not show as much yellow and a thick coat.
  20. Sorry guys, but I just can't pass on this! I have been told that car modelers are really cheap, but it is in very poor taste to ask for a discount on the guy's welcoming page. You wouldn't do it in person when shaking hands, why here? I think an apology is due. At any rate Alan, I am embarrassed by this even if you aren't.
  21. Alan, welcome aboard! It is always nice to have someone in the industry to add an educated opinion. Look forward to seeing your input.
  22. What kit is it? You may have a reboxed Italeri. The import and sell them in Japan as Tamiya kits, but other than the box, they are Italeri kits.
