Fomoco 1949 fastbacks
Jon Haigwood replied to Paul Payne's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Lets not forget the 64/66 Barracudas (a Valiant with a sports roof). If you split the window down the center it would look similar to the Corvette 63 Split window. which may just be were they got their design ques from. In 67 they changed up the roof style along with everything else. They tried it on the first Chargers with mixed results. And AMC tried it on the Marlin , that is all I will say about the Marlin. -

When I see the last two the name Kaiser comes to mind. With that in mind why is the Henry J seem to be the only Kaiser in kit form ? Would like to see a Darrin . -

Pontiac Engine Intake/Carb Setup?
Jon Haigwood replied to Jon Haigwood's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
The one I have only has tri-power or a blower -
I found this car on google that I would like to use as an inspiration. The Engine is a 455 Pontiac with a 2X4 manifold with cross rams and adapters for 4 Strombergs.I can start with the Parts Pak 421 but I will need a 2X4 manifold, I can probably scratch build the carb adapters. Any suggestions on finding manifold to fit this 421?

Painting with opening doors?
Jon Haigwood replied to Jon Haigwood's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
It will be with candy paint -
This will be my first build with opening doors. I will be using the Orange Crate body. Do you paint with the doors on and cut thru the paint to open the door or do you paint with the doors off and then trim down the paint to install the door ?

Thanks for all the advice, got-r-done. I ended up back filling it with my go to putty , Tammiya Extra Thin with styrene melted into it. After a bit of drying time (couple days in the dehydrator) Then carefully filed and sanded smooth on the outside . Now I need to decide whether I am going with the fenders on the body or remove them and go the full fendered route.

32 Ford Town Car Delivery ?
Jon Haigwood replied to Jon Haigwood's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Thanks for the recommendation. Your build is great. I really like the way you did the exhaust, very out of the box thinking. -
From what I can find there was never a factory Town Car Delivery in 1932, There was some in 1931 and older but in 32 there only seems to be a Town Car. My thoughts are to make one from the new MPC Coca Cola 32 Sedan Delivery kit. Any thought's or suggestions (or opinions) on such an adventure ?

I will be using the Orange Crate Body on another project. Is there any easy way to flatten out the cowl bumps ?

While at the auto parts store picking up some wet sanding paper I ran across this 3M 3000 grit polishing pad. Has anyone any experience using it ?

Baking Powder as Flocking?
Jon Haigwood replied to JollySipper's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I have not used baking powder or soda , only baby or body powder with success. I used to mix baby powder with super glue as a filler. I now use flocking powder as it is easier to apply using a small salt shaker and mix styrene with Tamiya extra thin for filler. (also known as "sprue glue") I do use baking powder to clean car batteries LOL -
Baking Powder as Flocking?

I used baby powder in the past now I use embossing powder. Baby powder is not water-soluble when sealed with paint -
Well Gerry I am thinking about all the Ford GT's. From the first version to the latest version. I have always been a GT fan.
-
I mostly build Hot Rods and Customs but I have been pondering on building some Ford GT's. Any tips or suggestions on what kits are good would be appreciated. I know the Tamiya kit is supposed to be great, Also is there much in the way of after market parts and detail items available for them. Thanks

Molotow Chrome Marker breakdown
Jon Haigwood replied to conchan's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I no longer buy the pens, I only buy the refills. I either drop some into the airbrush cup or use a small brush and apply it to the spots I want to touch up.
