Doing a little research what I found out was that Von Dutch came up with the idea of "Lace" painting. He mentioned it to Larry Watson whom painted what I believe is the first "Lace" paint on a car in 1967.(the car posted above by Can-Con). Von Dutch had only painted a chair by accident with overspray. I look at some of cars Von Dutch's painted, none had "Lace". I did find a few older cars with "Lace" but all seemed to be newer builds.
More information on Larry can be found on Kustomrama. (I still haven't figured out how to paste a link)
Up thru the center in the lighter color there was some "lace" painting. I remember doing that in the 60's .I asked the builder about it and he told me that it started in the 50's. Love going to the small fairground car shows. The newest car there was a 59. Most the kind of cars that were built on a working mans budget. Picked up a lot of ideas. Like these cooling louvers added onto the front brake backing plates. There were a few cars that had them. I need to figure out how to make some for my builds
Anybody build any ? I found this one today at a car show. You don't see these very often. This was built in 2000 using only 50's Era styling. (I tried to load a pic of the back but kept getting a error that pic was to large even after I reduced to half the size of the others?)
The louvers in the fuel tank kind a threw me a bit. Wasn't sure how it could hold any gas (on a 1:1 car). Went to a car show today and found this . Maybe that is just a tank cover? I still like it ALOT.
I can remember something about the first Subaru's that came to the US having no front brakes. I believe that they were forced to stop selling them. I can remember 100's of them sitting in lots down by the docks. But they were only $1,300.
I find always find something on every model I build that didn't go well. For me I enjoy challenging myself to improve on my builds and to try something I haven't attempted before. Occasionally I build a simple out of the box kit just to break things up some.
I find this enjoyable. If I don't think up a solution to a problem while I'm trying to get to sleep then I need a bigger challenge. (That's where I figure out how to over come a problem most of the time)
Great pic Greg , I like the way the fender braces are left on to mount the headlights. If I had a bigger pic I would use it as my wallpaper. I will use it on my Modelers F/B header next time I update it, Thanks for posting it.
Wifey came back from another thrift store visit and brought me a AMT display case box. Inside was the display case and inside the case was this. Not sure what to do with it since I don't build Chevys , maybe save the wheels for a future project. Heck for $3 can't complain.
