  1. Not my idea of traditional but what ever floats your boat. Even an ugly kids is loved by someone.
  2. Traditional could be Muscle cars or Tuners depending on the era one grew up in
  3. One thing I keep in mind when I see other builds that are sooooo much better than mine is what someone said to me when I first started learning guitar. "Guys like Eric Clapton are not born with the talent they practice it until they get it the way they want it.
  4. If I can't improve on my work (at least in my mind) on most every build its time to stop and find something else to do. So far at 64 I'm still learning
  5. I agree that the names should be left off the entry slips. And maybe a table set up for builds people want to display but not enter in the contest.
  6. Your right when you say build for yourself. At first I was a bit ticked off . Later I decided not to let it spoil the hobby for me.
  7. I entered my first model this year. After being away from the hobby 30+ years I was inspired by this years theme "cars by Steve Stanford. I chose to try and duplicate this 32 5 Window and spent a lot of time trying to get it right. At the contest there was only one other entry and in my opinion it looked as thou the build had been rushed had some problems and I figured I had a good chance at a mention. I was a bit surprised when the other car received the trophy. The builder that won was a well known local builder and was known by most. I knew about 4 people there. I kinda wonder if it was not so much the build as it was popularity of the builder. I don't want to come off sounding bitter and I could very well be wrong. I know mine was not perfect and use my builds as stepping stones for self improvement. So my question is, do politics play a role in model judging ?
  8. What about the window swamp coolers ? Anybody make these ?
  9. Thanks for the input I may push my building boundaries and try scratch building something like this with stuff in the parts box and/or aluminum tube
  10. Just noticed the panel below the spare. It opens so the spare can go into the opening
  11. I am currently in a 32 Deuce phase. I have built one with a Hemi, one with a 5liter Ford and heaven forbid one with a SMC, currently doing a Flat head. I have always thought the Super Charged V6 in the 90/92 T Bird Super coupes would make a great little hot rod mill. And since I have a 90,91and a 92 Super Bird kits. I thought I might rob some parts for my next project, a 32 3 window. I am also considering using the independent front and rear suspension. This is new ground for me so if anyone has done something similar maybe I can get some pointers. Thanks Jon
  12. If they would have moved them outward about 8" and put them on the fenders it would work without all the extra engineering . But maybe "back in the day" the engineers needed to justify their jobs just like today ?
  13. I am looking forward on seeing more on these. I am mostly a Ford guy but a Dodge would be cool. And a 32 Chevy would be fun to drop a 302 into. What will be the price range on these?
  14. When ever you are filling a tank watch the cycle time (the time it runs/the time it stops to cool down). If you run a small output compressor to long without giving it proper cool down time you might overheat it and burn out the motor. I couldn't find a cycle time for that compressor but it may be listed in the paperwork that came with it.
  15. Pintos and Vegas should soon be "extinct" most of them rusted back into the earth
  16. Never got the scanner to work right so I just took some pics
  17. I get some of my inspiration from Kustomrama - Traditional Hot Rod & Kustom Encyclopedia. (I would post a link put I haven't figured out how to paste yet)
  18. Let me know how that works out Dave
  19. Very nice . I like the idea of taking a humble kit and making it into a top notch finished model.
  20. No Flame paint jobs in my bunch. I will most likely do some Scallops first
  21. "Back in the Day" whenever we spotted a "4 Hole" Buick we would shout "4-holer" and punch our buddy in the arm. Now I guess they do "Slug-a-Bug"
  22. They are called "pit strips". Mostly used for racing teams to id which car was coming into the pit at road races. Only on the pit facing side. Some times yellow was used to denote a Rookie driver. Would be OK to use on a road race model. They were first used on a Cobra at the 1963 Sebring FIA Race
  23. I think I would have to start out with one of these, but now that I have read these posts I am getting a hankering for ship building. (my Wife is going to hate this)
