Arrangements for the inevitable
Jon Haigwood replied to wayne swayze's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'm taking mine with me -
Not really a Caddy fan but a red 57 Convert like this one brings back great memory's. When I was 14 back in 1964 I traveled with my Dad thru parts of America. We drove a Caddy like this from Chicago to somewhere in Washington state for a car dealer. This Road trip is one of my best memory of good times with Dad

Resto-Mods & Modern Hot Rods
Jon Haigwood replied to afx's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It also depends on the rarity of the car. My 66 Barracuda is a V8, auto on the floor w/console and buckets. Nice but not the most desirable car. I have made it a 60's period car, something a high school kid would have. I still can be changed back if someone wanted to do a resto on it. But since it's not an "S" code car it's not worth it go original . -
Resto-Mods & Modern Hot Rods

I build very few car in stock form. Mostly something I want to replicate from my past. I focus mostly on "period correct" mainly in the 60's. What bothers me is to see a Chevy motor in a Ford. I can tolerate a Hemi but not by much. I am trying to be more exceptive and of the two Deuces I am currently working on, one has a Hemi and one has a SMB. -
Welcome from to a fellow "Stump Townian" (can't say "Portlandian" any more)

When do you open your kits?
Jon Haigwood replied to chunkypeanutbutter's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
When I was a wee lad I would open them in the back seat on the way home. That probably accounted for all the lost metal axles. Now I open them at my first opportunity after I get them home (still may be missing some metal axles) -
With the same WB as the Valiant more than likely most of the rest is the same also.
-
64-66 had 106" WB in 67 they went to 108" WB I believe the grill is different on the 64 than the 65
-
Well this is mine, since it's white I could be the Granddaddy
-
The 64 and 65 are basically a Valiant with a "Sport Roof" . The 66 was still built on the Valiant platform but had a specific stylized logo. 67 went with a longer wheelbase and different body style used only for the Barracuda. Not sure how much of the underneath was changed in 67. I call the 64-66 the Red Headed step-child of the Barracuda family

Is that 1st gen or 2nd gen ? I was under they impression that 64-66 was first generation.

What happened to these customs ???
Jon Haigwood replied to Eshaver's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Early versions of the Little Coffin (some before it was called the LC) For some reason I can't figure out how to post a link but there is a bunch of info on the Kustomrama.com site. -

Unless I am mistaken this was at a swap meet/contest in Oregon a few months ago. Looks even better in person, drew a lot of attention and won "Best Paint" Super Cool car

I have a AMT 32 roadster kit in a bag that I picked up at the last swap meet. It has the molded in rear axle and I wasn't sure what I was going to do with it. But you inspired me to do a old style basic build and just have fun with it. Great work thanks for the inspiration

No intrest in Sport Sedans ?
Jon Haigwood replied to Jon Haigwood's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I thought Promo's were originally made as salesmen's samples and for Dad to bring home for the kids to play with when I bought a new car. Folk's like us turned them into Collectables. When I was young they were toys, most likely the reason on why so many are damaged. -

More confusion here you have a automobile referred to as a "Convertible, Hardtop and a Sedan" -

Greg Back in the day 4drhdtps were very common and no Car guy would ever have a 4dr anything, in fact a 4dr Charger would be laughed off the street and would be relegated to secretaries and nurses to drive I admit to the shame of chopping up a nice 57 for $50 in scrap metal and fear many other nice cars fell to this fate. I tried to do some research on the names of car styles over the years and just found it more confusing than when I started . I referenced to the term "Sport Sedan" because that is what Chevrolet did in57. Some define a Sedan as having a pillar and a Hardtop as having no pillar. This makes Sports Sedan a confusing term. I have always called them four door hard tops. I sometimes reminisce the "old days" when a you could buy a slightly used 67 Camaro SS350 for $1,900 and a new muscle car for about $3,000. Next time I post a similar question I will try and consider the younger builders to avoid confusion. Originally Hard Tops was the term used for cars build with a Hard Top as a apposed Soft Cloth Top. Using those terms a Hard Top could have a post between the side windows. I see were the Mini Cooper refer to their four door as a "Four Door Hard Top" when in fact there is a pillar. These terms change over the years as do others Thanks for the replies, they told me a lot. -
Can't seem to find any kits for 50's/60's Sport Sedans aka Four Door Hardtops. Having owned at least two 1:1 cars with four doors and no post I just noticed a lack of kits for these. My first being a 57 Chev (that I bought for a penny from a friend that said he would never give anything away, hence the 1 penny price). As I remember it had a straight body, nice red paint and a white top. It had all the chrome and gold trim and fair interior. There was no title, engine or trans. We chopped it up with a axe and hacksaw and sold it for scrap. If only Second car was 58 Pontiac Chieftain I had for a short while, I think I traded it in on a new 67 Merc Comet. Just thought it would be fun to build something a bit different.
