Love it! I have the original hardtop kit, but the convertible with an up top would have been a lot nicer! Steve

Bent spoke Kelseys
StevenGuthmiller replied to Bilingham's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Right off hand I can think of kits like the AMT '56 Ford and '57 Chrysler 300 for more modern kits. Otherwise, I was thinking along the lines of vintage kits like all of the early '60s Johan Mopars. I have used some of the wire wheels that Modelhaus used to offer & I loved them! I'm not fussy. What ever you would specifically make them for matters little to me. I will make whatever there is work. Unfortunately, there is just nothing nice available right now. Almost all of the wires offered in some of the modern kits are not good. Here are a few builds using Modelhaus wheels. This is the type of thing I'm looking for. Steve -
I agree with the others. It all depends on how bad you want it. Sometimes it's better to spend a few extra bucks and save yourself a bucket load of work. Remember, it;s not just the grille that's different, there are several issues with the AMT '68 Road Runner/ '69 GTX body proportions that need addressing as well. Steve

Modelhaus Inventory Sale!!!!
StevenGuthmiller replied to StevenGuthmiller's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
The tires are all supposedly marked sold out until the business is up and running. I love these tires! Some of the recreations of annual tires really come in handy for restorations. And I just love the old Satco wide whites!! Now if I could get some of their excellent wire wheels as well............. Steve -
What Did You Have for Dinner?

My wife would "almost" agree. Grilled cheese with tomato soup is one of her favorites. Steve -
I'm the opposite. I have no problem plunking down a fair amount of cash for a rare old kit if it is subject matter that I am interested in & something that is not available in a newer kit & probably never will be. For example, I'm not spending $150.00 on a vintage AMT '60 Ford Starliner because I can get the new one for $20.00. But I will, and have paid good money for a Johan '65 Chrysler 300 because if you want one, it's the only opportunity to build one, and chances are extremely high that there will never be another. I too will spend a "fair price" for a new kit if the kit warrants it, but to spend $100.00 to $200.00 on a kit that has just been released like the Foose '56 Ford is just pure foolishness! The amount of detail, or the parts count is of little interest to me. It's all about subject matter. You can always add as much detail as you would like. Steve

And rightfully so. But to spend $200.00 on a new kit is just sheer stupidity! Steve

I'm guessing you are referring to the left over inventory? You're probably right! I can see it becoming a huge cluster! I think I'll just sit this one out. I'm just happy to hear that there will be tires available in the future! Steve -

Some real gems there Luc! I have one of the '66 Bonnevilles & the '67 Ford. I also have a convertible version of the '66 Plymouth. Models that might actually be worth $200.00! Steve

Modelhaus Inventory Sale!!!!
StevenGuthmiller replied to StevenGuthmiller's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Good point. It may be saying that for every shipping location at the moment. I guess that we shouldn't get too excited. It will likely be some time before they are actually open for business. Steve -
Modelhaus Inventory Sale!!!!

I only hope that the website for "Modelhaustires.com" works better when it's officially launched than it does right now! I tried to load the page for about 10 minutes & only got about a quarter of it to load before it stopped completely. Steve -
Yup, there are a couple of the '30 Ford kits listed on ebay right now for well over $200.00! Another perfect example of people trying to get in a good "gouge" before Revell resumes production. I really hope that nobody is falling for this scam! Steve

Molotow Pen Question
StevenGuthmiller replied to jaxenro's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I suppose that could be a possibility, but I believe that you will be hard pressed to find a better "chrome" finish than what is supplied by any of the plating companies offering model part plating services. Steve -

I'm not sure what you mean about "toy like" with "real" chrome. Please explain. Steve -
Molotow Pen Question
StevenGuthmiller replied to jaxenro's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
That's my biggest fear. I have not used it for anything larger than something small like mirrors or window cranks. Will it retain it's mirror qualities with a clear coat, or is it like most other things and loses that quality. Even spraying a clear coat over kit chrome changes the chrome like finish. Steve -
I've been hearing the price thing about the Foose truck for a while. I think that we all realize that the reasoning for that is because Revell has basically stopped production at the moment and speculators are hoping that they do not resume so that they can get ridiculous prices for a kit which would then be considered rare. Those prices have very little to do with the popularity of the kit. It's pretty obvious that once Revell resumes production of that kit, which is highly likely if they get back on their feet, the prices will return to normal. Prices of a lot of Revell kits have taken a jump lately, it's not just the truck. Anybody that paid $150.00 for that kit will be taking a pretty big loss when they start selling for twenty some dollars again. The price you pay for taking a gamble. Steve

Molotow Pen Question
StevenGuthmiller replied to jaxenro's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
At $30.00 an ounce, I really question the cost effectiveness of using the Molotow ink for bumpers over having parts re-plated. You can send an entire rack of parts to Chrome Tech, (I can usually fit all of the parts for about 8 or 9 kits on one rack) and have them re-chromed for $23.95. The finish of a re-plated part is undoubtedly more durable than a part finished with Molotow ink. I really don't know what the advantage would be for using Molotow other than the time factor. I can understand using the Molotow ink for a part here & there, but if you need a bunch of parts done & want to be certain that they will be professional looking and will hold up over time, I would go with a plating service without question. Just did a test with another member. He sent me a PM. I received his & responded minutes ago, but have yet to hear back. Feel free to email me if necessary Joe. Steve

This might have been a great opportunity to replace the grille with some fine mesh & possibly find some headlight buckets with clear lenses. But on the other hand, if you're building it as a curbside, you really don't need an open grille. But the headlights might be something to think about. Steve
