I guess that I would say I'm "Gettin' There". I remember almost all of them, but a few, like telephone prefixes and party lines, roller skate keys and Howdy Doody were a little before my time. And I don't even know what "Butch Wax" is. Steve

Fantatsic Treasure found on Ebay
StevenGuthmiller replied to Modelmartin's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
If I had to guess, I would say that either this is an accomplished builder, (going by the diorama) who acquired a bunch of old built kits from some 8 year old of years past, or he's a guy that built these kits when he was a kid & bought the diorama somewhere along the line. Steve -
Looks very nice Al! I'm not much for these '70s cars, but it looks like you did a great job on this one. What is the color? It looks like there might be a hint of purple on my monitor. Steve

I sincerely hope that these were not recent "adult builds". I did a much better job than this when I was 7!!! Steve -
Now you just need to figure out how to build while looking up at the ceiling! Hope you're feeling well enough to get some bench time in soon Steve. Get better! Steve

Fantatsic Treasure found on Ebay

If nothing else, he sure has an eye for fantastic color combinations! Sherwin Williams must have had a sale on "colors that nobody should ever use"! I am particularly fond of the "pop tab" tow bars on the last 2 masterpieces! Steve -
Very true. I have always been much more taken by women who have a little more of the "girl next door" appearance than these "blow up dolls" that most guys go ga-ga over. I routinely see women on the street that are entirely more attractive in my eye than nearly any of the often "enhanced", so called "beauties", from Hollywood. Steve

Do any of us really? Even in this photo, for a woman her age, at least she isn't creepy. I'll just always remember her as Linda Barrett. Steve
-
Well, if we did, you can have her. Aren't I a nice guy? Steve
-
Well, maybe a few years ago. I get a little creeped out when I see her now. Looks a little like an uncle of mine!

Johan 1963 Plymouth Fury. A Little More Progress.
StevenGuthmiller replied to StevenGuthmiller's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Well, I continue to go deeper into this project than I had intended! I still have not decided exactly what I will do with the seats, but I have started to modify the door panels to replicate a standard '63 Fury. I'm cutting up a set of the panels from the Lindberg '64 Belvedere, scribing some lines to add trim to & adding the pleated panel at the top of the door. Making that pleated panel is an interesting technique that I saw somewhere & thought that I would try it. It entails making a pleated mold from the tonneau cover from the AMT '59 El Camino kit & then filling the mold with cheapo acrylic craft paint. When it dries it gives you a flexible panel that can be cut with a scissors & glued in place. The tan piece in these photos is the panel molded from acrylic paint. This photo shows the original '64 panel on the top & the pleated section & revamped door panel on the bottom. This pic shows the same reconfigured panel on the bottom with the reverse side of the original panel that I am reworking for these panels. I will be swapping the lower pleated portions of the door panels so I do not have to make new sections of those. There will also be trim pieces applied to the scribed out sections of the panel to replicate the chrome trim. Steve -
Possibly. But I'll bet 75% of the photos on this thread are airbrushed. Steve

69 Camaro Convertible resin up top
StevenGuthmiller replied to mchalal's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
I don't have any of these tops. These are ebay shots. Not sure about the fit on these, but hey.......anybody got a better option for a top for a '62 Impala convertible other than a rare annual piece? I'm sure that with a little fiddling, it would not be difficult to get these tops to look nice. If anyone has ever built an old Johan kit with a convertible up top, you will know how many modifications are required to make one of those look right. I will not hesitate to buy one of these tops if I need one. I'm considering buying one for an upcoming '64 Bonneville build, even though I already have a '62 Buick top I'm modifying for it. Steve -

Twenty five bucks to cut a cake.?
StevenGuthmiller replied to NYLIBUD's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
I don't know guys, but the wife and I went to Buffalo Wildwings in Moorhead Minesota last weekend, & even there it's hard to get out of there for less than $50.00. We had an order of onion rings for $6.00. I had one beer, (about another $5.00) & an order of boneless wings for $11.00. My wife had an order of "naked tenders", (another $11.00) and a side salad for $5.00. She drank water. $38.00 without a tip. Add another $7.00 for a tip and your at $45.00..........for chicken tenders & onion rings!! If you go to a "good" restaurant, you can figure at least twice that for a couple. So yeah, $200.00 is not expensive for 8 people considering that it would cost at least that much to take them to B-Dub's. Steve -

You are correct there. It's not uncommon for the wife and I to spend $60.00 or $70.00 just for the two of us. Steve -
removing enamel from resin
StevenGuthmiller replied to cobraman's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I believe it. There are some advantages to using enamels. They level better & will give you a pretty nice shine without a clear coat, but I used to paint my models & then put them away for a couple of months before resuming because the enamel takes forever to cure completely. Now I use pretty much nothing but lacquers. Steve -

removing enamel from resin
StevenGuthmiller replied to cobraman's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Just did it with a resin '56 Caddy. But I used Super Clean. Of course t only had to soak for about a half hour to get off all of the enamel, so it really didn't have time to get damaged. I've used Super Clean before on resin without any problems & I don't think Easy Off would be any different, especially when removing something as easy as enamel. Steve -
Twenty five bucks to cut a cake.?
StevenGuthmiller replied to NYLIBUD's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
I agree, that if you called first & the owner gave you the green light & assured you that there would be no additional charge, it wasn't right to charge you anything. I would make it very clear to the owner that you were not happy, will not be coming back & will make certain that everyone you know will hear of the situation. Give him a call & tell him that you will be telling all of your friends to stay away from his establishment & you may be surprised at how fast he turns around. Nobody with an ounce of business sense wants people knocking his establishment. If it's worth $25.00 to him to lose a bunch of business, so be it. Steve -
Sweet! The color & finish is beautiful! Steve

StevenGuthmiller replied to NYLIBUD's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
$25.00 might be a little out of line, but it can be expected that there would be a charge of some sort for cutting & serving a cake that was not purchased from their establishment. If it were me, I would have brought the cake in and cut and served it myself after dinner was finished. Or possibly have the cake at home later. You might consider yourself lucky that they even let you bring in food from outside. Some establishments will not. Steve
