  1. I do have a couple of the Blazers and that might be what I end up doing. I was concerned with how the back end of the chassis on the Blazer would look with the bed on it, meaning how would the body lines flow. If I were to use the 84 GMC chassis, I would definitely chop the wheel wells off. I might also look at the Revell 78 GMC to see if there is much difference with the scales and body mounts. Luckily I have enough extra kits to play around! Thanks Brian!
  2. I have recently picked up some kits in trade and am looking to build the AMT 72 Chevy pickup up as a 4WD but have some questions about going about doing so. 1. I have a resin short bed from Bandit Resins and want to build one of my 72's as a short bed 4WD. Has anyone looked at using the recent re-issued 84 GMC kit chassis as a starting point? The platform chassis in the 72 leaves a lot to be desired and I was thinking it might be easier to use the GMC. 2. Would I be better off starting with the chassis from the Crew Chief Blazer kit and modifying it to fit? 3. Has anyone ever scratch build a chassis from styrene? Any thoughts or suggestions are greatly welcomed.
  3. Harry, I am of the mind that things have to be put into numbers for me to better understand them. That said, you have completed day 1 of 15 of your radiation and hopefully the side effects aren't too bad. I am sure the road will get bumpy but you gotta think big picture! Keep positive and you will beat this!
  4. This sounds great, but how does that explain the member who got a replacement body that was warped? I am glad to have this kit available, but wonder how some of us got warped bodies and the stock at the Revell office is okay?
  5. Harry, It is very easy for me to say you will beat this and to not be afraid, but the truth is until I walk in your shoes, I can only offer my support and prayers, which I have and will continue to do. What encourages me is your statement about your doctors and their confidence. I don't think they would be so quick to tell you that life will be interrupted but back to normal if their experience and knowledge didn't lead them to think that. Any of us would be scared like you, but hopefully your children are there to comfort you and assist you with whatever you may need and as many have stated here, your online family is there for you as well. Thank you for sharing a very personal part of your life and don't be afraid to ask for help. Continued prayers and wishes for a full, speedy recovery.
  6. Very Nice, love that color!
  7. Me too, but I have to wonder given the severity of Gregg's ongoing back problems and Harry's recent disclosure that he will be battling some serious health issues, who is capable of stepping up and helping ? Years ago I compiled catalog data for auto parts companies and it is nothing compared to magazine layout and I would imagine gathering the information for each issue from the independent contributors and formatting it is a BIG job.
  8. Sorry Tom, but the twisted body in my kit is beyond the usual hot water tricks applied to a warped body. About all it is good for is practice painting.
  9. I do this with the majority of the shows I watch, can't stand some of the stupid commercials and sometimes even fast forward through the "drama" that gets scripted into these shows.
  10. Assuming they utilize QA methods. Could be that once a few samples have been approved, no need to check others. My bigger problem with this kit is the heavy sprue attachments at the bottom edge of the body, I cannot remember seeing anything like it before.
  11. There is another thread in the General section warning about warped bodies. Of the two that I bought, one of them had a severely warped body.
  12. agreed. If you have ever taken a concealed carry weapon class, there is a fair amount of time spent discussing/explaining when you draw a weapon, what the ramifications are. The folks who always come out when a police officer shots and kills someone and state "Why did they have to kill them? They could have shot him in the leg!" don't have the training that goes with being a police officer. Yes, wounding the suspect is more humane, but in a split second, an officer has to assess the threat and decide. Much easier to do afterwards and not in the heat of the moment. I own guns and enjoy going to the range and honing my skills along with competing with my kids to see who is the best shot. I hope to never have to defend myself with one of them but feel that I am prepared to do so.
  13. Checked my two kits today, one was so badly warped it was hard to tell it was a Ramcharger. Sent an email to Revell asking for a replacement body, first time I have had to do that. I did notice both had a sticker with what appeared to be a date stamp and had "West Chicago, IL" on it. I also noticed there was some heavy sprue tabs on the bottom edge of the body. If that is a new trend for Revell, then I will probably not be buying much from them in the future.
  14. A dealer has to make a profit and from the sounds of things, most of the kits are in the $10-15 range, so $5 sounds reasonable. I have taken my wife with me to a couple of shows recently and has an idea of what to price stuff and how to deal with cheap model builders. She knows that they are worth something and giving them to Goodwill or taking them to the landfill is NOT my final wish. You are smart to discuss with your wife, she may not know what you are sitting on in terms of kits and their value. Dave- I hope you get out of this fiasco, I don't see a fun time ahead for you or Cathie.
  15. I can imagine the complaining that will ensue once the "heirs" realize that it will take MONTHS to sell off this stuff if you are going to use eBay and they don't get big checks. Add in the attorney fees and they will realize they should have listened to you Dave! The trouble with people is that once money is involved, their personalities change and they fear being screwed over. On top of that there are TV shows like American Pickers, Pawn Stars and Antiques Roadshow that give the idea that anything "old" or "unique" is worth more than what most people are willing to pay. You truly have my sympathy and I implore you and Cathie to re-think the job you have been tasked with. As Tom stated above, he has a strained relationship with his sister and based on what you have told us here, I think you will be in the same boat.
  16. Update- Seems the tropical storm is tracking closer to the coastline and we will be spared much of the rain and should have a beautiful weekend afterall.
  17. My Dad used to tell us...Watch out for Karma, it'll get you! His version of the Golden Rule.
  18. Dave, If there is that much automobilia (models and Hot Wheels) to sell off, have you considered having an auction on those items? Some auction houses will hold online auctions to move the items much like eBay, but without YOU having to do all of the work. I would look into what Keyser mentions above, if it applies to where you live, you may get to decide what happens and how.
  19. Looks like I will be saving some money for October Revell releases, hopefully those early Broncos arrive on time.
  20. After a really long and hot, humid summer here in Charlotte, the weatherman was all excited the other day to tell us a cold front was coming and this weekend would be mid-80's and low humidity and I thought to myself, maybe I can get some stuff painted! Well, checked the weather tonight while dining and whadda ya know, a hurricane is coming! Supposedly we are going to see Hermine come through Georgia and South Carolina before hitting North Carolina and getting anywhere from 4-10 inches of rain from Thursday night into Saturday morning. We could really use the rain, just not that much that fast! I guess I better plan on getting the gutters clean tomorrow after work and making sure we have water and flashlights ready just in case it gets bad. With any luck we don't lose power and I can get some painting done!
  21. If you are looking for the answer on shipping- USPS Priority Mail. If you want to make it easy on yourself and the others involved- take modelercarl's advice. I can't imagine asking someone to invest the amount of time necessary to sell off 800 kits and not pay them something! Even if you sold them in lots, it is a ton of time spent checking to see the correct kit is in the box, matched up with the correct shipping label, and packing the boxes and going to the post office. I wish you the best in your adventure.
  22. When you're dumb, you suffer. That was a saying a friend and I came up with, kind of a take off from the John Wayne statement about life. My late mother liked to say "Life is what you make it son"
  23. Don't feel like you are on this journey alone Harry. Many here have been in your situation, either personally or with a close family member or friend, and the support that is/has/will be offered will help you in your dealing with this setback. We haven't met, but we are fellow Chicagoans and that should count for something! As mentioned, let us know what we can do to help and I am sure you will be amazed at the outpouring of support. Continued prayers and wishes for a complete and full recovery.
  24. I did check Tower Hobbies, they don't have the 1/32 Mustang kit listed any longer, but they might be available on eBay or a hobby shop with older kits. I did pick up one of those Mustang kits a couple of years ago to use the wheels on a Chevette build I have planned. Another option might be the Pegasus Irok wheels. IIRC they tend to be on the small side and they could look just right.
  25. 70-74 had the same backlight. 74 was the first year for the big bumpers. A 74 kit with options to build it as a Z-28 or LT type would be nice.
