Well, we lost power yesterday for 5 hours and I used my new lighted Xacto knife, along with a razor saw, and began the process of modifying the 84 GMC chassis to fit the 72 cab. As mentioned above, I cut the incorrect inner fenders out of the 72 and slightly trimmed the ones on the 84 and it fits almost like they were made for each other! I had to get back to my honey do list once the power was back on and will try to do some more work this week on it. I will assemble the resin short bed from Bandit and see how well that fits on the chassis, hoping it won't take much. I think I might modify the chassis from the 72 and build a quick curbside short bed 84, not sure.

I was busy working at a customer's shop today sorting fasteners and organizing the drawers for them when my phone rang. I looked at the number, didn't recognize it and almost didn't answer it because I thought it was pollster or telemarketer but being in the business world you never know if a customer has a phone number with an area code from halfway across the country. I was pleasantly surprised to hear my son's voice! He has been at Ft. Leonard Wood since August 15th and haven't spoken to him since that day. He had 4 minutes to talk and borrowed a fellow soldier's phone to call and just wanted to say he was looking forward to seeing us in 3 weeks at graduation. He is doing well and says it is getting easier to see the finish line! Not sure if it is true, but he sure sounded more grown up than he did 2 months ago, even though he is 23 ! Made my day and of course my wife was jealous he didn't call her!

Aoshima Hilux pickups dimensions of kit
mikemodeler replied to mdlbldrmatt135's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
I can check tomorrow, I know I have a built one in the stash that I can measure. Send me a PM with what exactly you need measured and I will get the information to you. -
Ron, Thank you for the detailed review and whether you realize it or not, you have become a "salesman" for Round 2! I bought the snap version of this kit as I like to crank out quick builds in between the more detailed builds, much like you. Now that you have shown the detail in this new kit, it is on my radar to add to my list of "someday builds". I like the comment you made regarding some of the snap kits- the ones that you can build in a matter of hours and get instant gratification. I believe that is the spirit behind the series and whether you are a long time modeler or some young kid who likes cars, having a completed model to show off after a small amount of time invested is the desired result the model companies are after. I have a friend who has a 2016 convertible, it will be interesting to see if R2 brings out a drop top version to compliment the hardtop as I would love to build a replica of his car for him.

Another creative masterpiece, complete with weathering! Love it!

I took a look at some of the models coming out and realized that I had most of them in the stash or they were not of interest to me. That said, I contributed the cost equivalent of a couple of models and will be doing like others and looking for ways to sell off unneeded items for Harry's benefit. While we all have our struggles, mine pale in comparison to what Harry is facing and I have a feeling if the shoe was on the other foot, Harry would be leading the charge to help one of us. We can all forgo a lunch out, another model kit, a night at the movies or whatever else might be considered a luxury to help Harry.

Ollie's strike again
mikemodeler replied to GLMFAA1's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Stopped in this morning and snatched up that Blazer! They had some other models on an end cap display by the toy aisle, mostly Ford Crown Vics. -
Jim, Both of my kids were in JROTC in high school and their friends were in that same group, and the manners they were taught and the respect they show is very heartwarming to my wife and I. My son decided at age 22 to join the National Guard and is currently in boot camp at Ft. Leonard Wood Mo. The letters we get are funny as they are progressively getting more detail about what he is doing. Very proud of my son and his decision to join the military. I think it is awesome that your daughter has chosen a career as a pilot and it must be fun for her to tell unsuspecting folks that she is a fighter pilot! Thank her for me for her dedication and service and all of her friends as well. Joining the military is not for everyone but most that do have a passion for it, I know that is true for my son.

Ollie's strike again
mikemodeler replied to GLMFAA1's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I would have snatched up that snap Blazer, the tires aren't that great but the rest of it builds decent. I will have to swing by there tomorrow and see if it is still there. -
I noted that as well. Hopefully it is a simple fix as the kit sounds like a winner otherwise.

Ollie's strike again

I will be near one tomorrow, have to check it out. -
That is looking very nice. The paint is very clean and shiny. I would leave the rocker trim off, I think it looks better without it.

I just noticed it has been a couple of weeks since I have notified Revell of my warped body and have yet to get a replacement after submitting a request on their website. Has anyone asked for and received a replacement? If so, how long did it take you get one? I wonder if they have found a bunch of bad bodies and are delayed in sending out replacements? I will give them another week or so before I ask again.

Help identifying this wrecker
mikemodeler replied to explorer2770's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I believe Gregg had an article in MCM a couple of issues back on modifying the Meng into a single cab for an ambulance project. Pretty detailed photos and IIRC it came out nice. Would love to see a modern wrecker body for 1 ton trucks, even better if it were a whole new kit! -
That is a very nice rendition! Details and clean paint really make it pop!

That is a nice cruiser, looks great!

Don't need the models, but will check out the sandpaper!

sorry to hear, hope she has a speedy recovery.

PayStar Service Truck My Way..
mikemodeler replied to yh70's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
nice work, excellent detailing and scratchbuilding! -
I picked one up today, after the 40% off coupon I was out the door for about $19. I agree that this is a lot, but it is a nice kit.

outstanding details and incredible work Mark!

All the speculation over hot warehouse versus being pulled too quickly from the mold is a moot point as we have not been tasked with solving the problem for Revell, just to notify them! I'm not a plastics engineer, nor did I stay in a Holiday Inn express last night, but I am intelligent enough to know that Revell will figure out what happened and try to make sure it doesn't happen again. Someone will undoubtedly total up the cost of this problem and if it was an outside molding company, they will most likely pay. Hopefully my replacement body is on it's way.

After reading your latest update Harry I have even more sympathy for you. Bad enough to hear that the first treatment was painful, but the ensuing attempt to alleviate the pain caused by it sounds horrible. I remain hopeful that somehow as a country we can fix the many wrongs that have occurred to the healthcare system over the last 6 years so that simple things like getting pain killers for a person truly in need doesn't take so long. Continued prayers Harry.
