$30+ kits - hows it affect you?
mikemodeler replied to Jantrix's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Interesting topic and responses. I was at a Michael's today with a 50% off coupon and could not find anything of interest to me. I have a large collection and like most have stated, enough to last me a couple of lifetimes. It is sad that the prices have become what they are, but I think we all know that the model companies have to raise the prices some due to lower volume. I have scaled back buying this year for several reasons- finances, time, need, space - and don't see me buying like I used to any time soon. Like others, reality is setting in and impulse buying is something of the past. I love a good bargain, so swap meets, closeout stores, coupons and trades with forum members is how I am spending my money. $30 kits don't scare me, but they better get my interest because otherwise I won't be spending my money on them. So far I see me spending less next year than I did this year and unless the model companies bring out some all new kits, that will hold true. -
We are all hopeful for a full, speedy recovery Jim. As far as the magazine, I am sure Gregg is on it and others will step up to get it compiled and ready for publishing. The forum seems to have been relatively tame with little or no drama over the last year and maybe we can all play nice. Harry has been a huge part of both the forum and magazine for so long and I sure hope he continues to be.

mikemodeler replied to Scalper's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Saw one on the road in Charlotte yesterday and was surprised to see it wasn't all rusted out! Nice save, looks good! -
I am shocked! A Chuck Most build that isn't rusted, weathered or heavily modified! Looks great Chuck, a few friends had one of those as a daily driver. No power but got good gas mileage!

Very nice, like how you used a couple of different pieces/parts to create a great looking tow rig -

That looks nice and I agree that while it is a simple kit, it looks very realistic when finished. -

Plow truck
mikemodeler replied to JTRACING's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
That is a very realistic weathered old plow there, great job! If you are looking some round lights that come close to what was used in the 70's/80's, check out one of the Revell 32 Fords. They have two sets of headlights and the smaller ones are pretty close to the right size. -
Looks good, but you sure aren't turning that thing around unless you have an empty parking lot to do it!

Building a '70 Chevrolet El Camino?

That conversion looks spot on Brian. I agree the grill looks out of place, but maybe you can fix that! -

mikemodeler replied to Dave Metzner's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
If they offer a long bed in 3/4 or 1 ton 4x4 livery, it could potentially sell fairly well as it would represent something new and different enough to get people to buy them. The 72 will probably hang around for awhile as it isn't much different from the 71. I hope we see the 4x4 version sooner rather than later, I have been wanting one since the pictures were released showing the front axle sprue. -
Harry, As others have so nicely stated, don't feel bad about collecting benefits that you have paid into, that is what they are there for. Be sure to research all programs available to you so that in addition to quality care, you get everything coming to you. It is a humbling experience and while not the situation you probably envisioned, remind yourself your first concern is to rehab your heart and hopefully get back to independent living. I would also consider getting some legal advice on how to structure your estate to preserve as much of your assets as possible. Not sure what the law is in Illinois but most states allow you to have money in reserve to pay for certain costs, both everyday and future. Not to be morbid, but things like funeral costs, long term care, medical care, and things we take for granted like hair cuts, toiletries, clothing, etc., need to be considered. Certain assets might be able to be excluded like any IRAs, 401ks, life insurance policies. To have all of this thrown at you on top of what you were already going through is certainly overwhelming and thankfully you have your children to help you navigate, but make sure decisions are made rationally and not emotionally. Hopefully there is a county or state agency that help provide some guidance. Take care friend, continued prayers for a speedy recovery and we are all pulling for you!

There have been several Nomad wagon kits from Revell.

Building a '70 Chevrolet El Camino?

The problem with just about any JF body is that getting one to look decent and presentable is like polishing a turd- it's still a turd when you are done! -

That Jimmy Flintstone resin body is a big blob and I would avoid it if you are striving for some sort of accuracy. -
I don't know what else to add to what has been said already other than continued prayers for your recovery Harry. Hopefully your daughters can help you in the coming months with your therapy and with God's help, bring some sense of normalcy back to your life. You have a major battle ahead but you seem determined to meet it head on and beat it and I feel you will. Take care of yourself and make sure you get the help you need. This forum will be here for you and let us know what we can do to help.

That's great Harry! The doctors know that you can recover faster at home than in a hospital and as others have said, the atmosphere and food tend to be better at home. Continued prayers for your recovery, the number of people praying for you is having a positive effect on you!

I like this a lot! Not sold on the white paint, maybe because I have seen more 1:1's in other colors, so I will have to look for more white ones. Thanks for sharing the pix, any other build issues we should be aware of besides the ride height?

1/25 Jeep Gladiator
mikemodeler replied to Casey's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Casey, Excellent work on the truck and it would be a shame if you didn't consider casting that cab after all of the work you did to make it correct! I think that plow is going to look small on the truck and if you want to swap it for one of the plows from the Revell 77 GMC, let me know, I happen to have an extra one I could swap you! -
I am in the hospital
mikemodeler replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Harry, So saddened to hear of your hospital stay but much relieved to hear that your condition is improving since Thursday. Prayers and well wishes are on the way to you and your family. Take care and get well, we look forward to your return home and continued improvement. Mike -
I sought out this kit based on initial positive reviews. I appreciate the honest feedback given by people who actually have built the kit as I hope to avoid the problems they encountered. All the other drama is unnecessary, I can go to Facebook and get drama, personal attacks and name calling; I come here to enjoy the hobby.

The side trim can be built using Evergreen plastic strip. The curved pieces on the front fenders might be a tad tricky but can be done! Your best bet is to find a hobby shop that stocks the Evergreen and go through it to find the size that best suits your design.
