In the 70s for a second day in a row here, the wife insisted on turning the A/C on last night as the house was too warm (her words). Gonna be in the 70's through Monday at least, and then a "cool down" into the 60's! Just might get some bodies painted if the rain moves out and the humidity drops! Definitely not normal weather for most of the US but I think we all have learned to enjoy it while we have it.

I see both sides of the argument, but as it has been pointed out, if you don't like it, don't participate! BTW- the new car dealers are guilty of the same thing. Buy a new car, complete for a fraction of what all of the individual parts would cost over the counter.

1986 Chevy El Camino SS

Will be watching this one. Should build up easy, I don't remember any big problems when I built one awhile back. -
The Secret to Building a Better Model
mikemodeler replied to afx's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Despite having built models for nearly 45 years, reading this has reminded me of some of the basics that I have learned and forgotten many times! I think it is important to always try to learn something every day, and model building is no exception. And just like real life, sometimes we get a little over confident and make mistakes. Whatever your skill level and comfort zone is, reading a topic like this is a great way to keep you humble. -
I was surfing eBay earlier today and spotted some items on there from the seller T.M. Resin from Nashville TN. My questions: 1. Has anyone bought from them via eBay? They do have a decent rating. 2. If have bought from them, what is the quality like? 3. Do they hit any shows in the Southeast? There are very few resin casters that I buy from for the first time sight unseen, prefer to look it over in person if possible. Any other comments are welcome. TIA

Those both look nice! Like Maindrian Pace, I was in high school when these cars were new and there were a couple of kids who had them. Chrome dress up and Cragar mags were common, along with a Pioneer cassette deck!

Great job as usual Harry. Love the Packard and didn't realize RR made a woodie! That would have been a hit at the beach with long boards!

Informal question re: Christmas gifts to one's self
mikemodeler replied to Roadrunner's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Don't wrap em, I usually have to sneak them in and pretend they were there all year! I have asked for gift cards to Hobby Lobby or Michaels, have yet to get one as the family thinks I have enough stuff already! My wife is very understanding of the hobby, she knows there could worse ones that cost a lot more. I have sold off quite a few models this year, she is happy that I have reduced the stash and used the money for things necessary to the household. When I was young teen, I would get models for Christmas and with my birthday just three days after, I would get them for my birthday too. Usually got more on my birthday as stores would mark them down after Christmas. -
9th Annual Hope it Don't Snow Show and Contest Spartanburg SC
mikemodeler replied to Drgon63's topic in Contests and Shows
Thinking about getting a table at this show to clear out some more models. I haven't been to it in a couple of years, can anyone give an idea of what attendance is like? I would like to go but having recently lost my job, we only have one car and it will be a day long event for me if I go. -
He turned 51 in September, way too young to leave us. Never met him but appreciated his contributions to our forum. RIP Chuck.

Nice work Chuck, almost didn't recognize it being one of your builds- no rust or weathering! -
1977 GMC Sierra Wrecker
mikemodeler replied to Vbad's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Those are absolutely fantastic! The weathering and details are very realistic. The way you took them to a much higher level of details is incredible. I am always amazed at how builders of US model subjects from Europe can render such great results when they don't have these vehicles laying around like we do here in the US. Doesn't matter if it is a '60's muscle car, trucks like these or any other subjects, the details and execution are outstanding! -
Best advice I can give you is stated above.

That is very nice, I like the color as it is not one that is seen often. Nicely detailed, could have sworn I was looking at the real thing!

Revell and West Coast Customs
mikemodeler replied to blubaja's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
uh, what he said ^^^ ! If it gets our hobby more exposure and draws some people back into the hobby or for the first time, I see it as a win-win. Would I have West Coast Customs build me a car? Probably not. Are they craftsmen in custom car building? Yes, just not my cup of tea. This much is true- At least Revell is trying AND bringing new subjects to market. -

very nice and super clean. Great details and an overall awesome job on something not available in kit form. -
Had a phone interview yesterday that went really well, could be the next job! They briefly touched on salary and I could finally get a raise! The recruiter and I discussed my previous job and the various activities involved and he was surprised that as a sales rep the number of non-selling projects I was expected to do and he asked me point blank "When did you have time to sell?" To Bill's point above, this previous employer didn't care, I was labor to them and whether I was "selling" or not was immaterial, it was all about getting their projects done and agenda complete. One thing I have noticed is that companies are hiring and looking for talented people and if you are qualified, you should be able to find a good job. I do feel for you self-employed guys and the health insurance costs, using Cobra to continue my family benefits will be $1,000 per month.

Gas Monkey - Hot Wheels Corvette
mikemodeler replied to afx's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
haven't watched GMG in a year, I feel the "drama" is made for TV and Richard is an egomaniac. I think he has gone Hollywood much like the guys at Orange County Choppers did and it all went to their heads. I agree that Bitchin Rides seems to be more realistic and the cars seem to be engineered to perform and are not cartoon like. Not sure why a perfectly good, numbers matching Corvette had to sacrificed for the build, but I am sure someone had their reasons. -
Stock 4x4 wheels and tires
mikemodeler replied to Dave Toups's topic in Truck Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
The wheels in the Jeep kit you reference Chuck could probably be modified to represent the lockout hubs if necessary. Hopefully Fireball will have some bias ply 4wd tires soon, along with wheels, as he hinted as much when the subject was brought up last month. -
resin kit quistions
mikemodeler replied to anarximis's topic in Truck Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
If you aren't hung up on a full detailed chassis and engine for the truck, Brian's suggestion above would be the best way to go. The snap kit will build much faster and easier than the resin (not to mention cheaper!) and those kits can still be found relatively cheap. Search eBay, they can be found as promos as well as unassembled kits and look spot on. If the resin kit is your decision, then depending on what is included for the chassis leaves you with some choices to make. If you are in need of suspension and a drivetrain, the easiest solution is to look for a '90 SS454 AMT pickup kit. It will have the engine and chassis pieces you need. If you need dually wheels and tires, go Scenes Unlimited and pick a set, they are correct for the truck and Danny is a great guy to deal with. -
very nice and the detail work is outstanding! The BMF is very well done.
