Very nicely detailed!

Okay, so I got to thinking about this subject last night as I was mulling over another rushed paint job. If I could be more patient when it comes to color coats on models, I think I could get more built. I tend to rush the paint jobs as I am in a hurry to get them finished and as a result, I end up with more WIPs than completed models! So, what is it you wished you could improve in your model building?

Truck mounted forklift tires
mikemodeler replied to Tesla's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Try looking at ATVs in the toy aisle at a Toys R Us or Wal Mart, probably have something pretty close in size and tread style. Check out dollar stores too, they often have cheap toys. -
More likely to get his wife to chit chat than Kenny himself. They are great people and definitely an asset to this hobby. Hated that I missed the CKM show last month, wanted to get a couple of things from him.

Hmm, does that mean we would have seen more Ford small block powered hot rods instead of the other way around Harry???

I was back in Kenosha visiting my parents last week and happened to drive by the old AMC/Chrysler factory and it has been leveled! Still saw a lot of AMC cars in the area but nothing like the 70s and 80s! Even as recently as 8 years ago you could see the influence of both makes on the town as there were plenty of older AMCs on the road as well as new Chrysler products. Sad to see parts of our manufacturing history disappear but it is a reality of the changes we have seen in this country. I find it ironic that the domestic manufacturers are the ones tearing down factories and the import brands are expanding and building their facilities here.

On this day please pause and remember all of those men, women and children we lost 12 years ago.

1958 Chevy Apache 4x4
mikemodeler replied to greymack's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Growing up there was a local Standard Oil station near me that had one of these in red as their road service truck. Nice job on this build and I wish this was available as a kit! -
Home from the hospital! Update Friday, Sept11th!
mikemodeler replied to Terry Sumner's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Keep up the positive attitude Terry, it does make a difference! Hopefully you will be back to your old activities and self before you know it. Glad to hear such good news for a change! -
Dale, Starting in 69 they no longer used the model Chevy II, they were all Novas. Otherwise your statement is correct.

Hope you heal quickly and are able to get back to the bench soon. -
Thanks for sharing, looks like he has fun with his Dart! I have heard he is a true car guy, from wrenching on them to being super knowledgeable about options and what was factory or dealer bolt on to being a model builder too! Now that Speed is no more, I wonder what will happen to the BJ auctions ?

Another incredible piece of work Tom, very impressive scratchbuilding! Interested to see this one done and possibly for sale! -
Thanks for sharing, I had planned on going but had to find a car for my son this weekend. Hope to make the Morganton show at the end of September.

Models at Wal-Mart
mikemodeler replied to Evilbenny's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The wife and I had some time to kill the other night and decided to walk through the Wal Mart in Concord NC, near the speedway, and saw these same kits on the shelf. She was nice enough to ask if there was anything I might need or want and I laughed and said "No!" -
NOS Barn Finds - Sale Is Next Month
mikemodeler replied to Lunajammer's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I would be willing to bet that we see a few of these show up at Barrett Jackson in the coming months. Some jackwagon will try to buy low and sell high. I would rather have a running "original" than some no mileage car that has been sitting for 40+ years. -
How often do you visit Hobby Lobby?
mikemodeler replied to dantewallace's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I hit them whenever I am near one. Used to get mad at myself for not printing the coupon out ahead of time until I realized I could look it up on my smartphone and save the paper! Amazing how many people you see in line with smartphones getting their coupon code ready! -
Kenny, Do you have a list of vendors that will be there? I have a busy weekend planned (wedding anniversary) but could sneak out to visit!
