Modelhaus End Of Business Sale
mikemodeler replied to Againmikewins's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
I, like I am sure many others, got this email yesterday. I looked over what is left and didn't find any thing I haven't already bought and stored away. For those of you who didn't, Don and Carol are going to great extremes to make sure if there is anyone still in need, they are making a great deal on what is left. Dear Customers, One last push to clear the remaining stock of parts. All orders placed in Dec. will receive a 50% discount on merchandise figured at the time the order is billed. The site will close for good on Dec. 15. IT IS ESSENTIAL to follow these instructions when filling your shopping cart: On the original page where the parts are listed, only check the part and add it to the cart. DO NOT adjust the quantity you wish to order from this page. Click "Add Checked to Cart" each time you check an item. In the shopping cart, adjust the quantity you wish to order one part at a time, clicking on the "Update Cart" button each time. Please check to make sure you have correctly typed in your name, address, credit card number, expiration date, and security code. Following these four steps will allow you to place the order. If any item is not managed correctly, the order will not be placed for any of the items. If your billing name and address do not match that on file with your credit card provider, the order will not be placed. If your card number, expiration, or security number are typed incorrectly, the order will not be placed. As orders are placed, we will attempt to keep up with updating the site to remove parts that are sold out. As of the sending of this e-mail, all parts listed are available. Many parts have only one left in stock. We wish all our customers a Blessed Christmas Season and a healthy and happy 2019!. Thank you for your loyal business these many years. Sometimes I hate Hobby Lobby
mikemodeler replied to El Roberto's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
In 2-3 weeks it will be back to normal, so unless you GOTTA have it now, wait and get it with the 40% off coupon. Hobby Lobby puts all of their model kits on sale at this time of the year, no surprise to those of us who have been shopping there for years. -
Buying a compressor
mikemodeler replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Hobby Lobby has compressors, and with their 40% off coupon, makes them real affordable. If you are using one inside the house, you will want one that is a bit more quieter (meaning more expensive). A pancake compressor is not quiet, but it has more uses than a regular air brush compressor. Really comes down to budget and if it will be used for something other than powering an airbrush. -
2020 Family Truckster !
mikemodeler replied to 1972coronet's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I work for a division of Toyota and we are transitioning away from internal combustion engines and getting more involved with electric vehicles and autonomous capable vehicles. While they will not displace the 280 million vehicles already on the road in the US, they will be here sooner than we thought. To think we will all be driving in electric cars exclusively is a bit of a stretch, but the day is coming when we won't have much of a choice because gasoline will be priced out of reach for many. There are many parts of the world where an electric car is not feasible and therefore there will be a market for some form of gasoline powered vehicle. One must consider the lower income person- teenager, entry level employee, etc- that will not be able to afford a new, electric car and will be forced into public transportation. It will change a lot in our lives- where we live, how we socialize, and it might be a reminder of the early 20th century in terms of how many people did not have a car. There will need to be a massive investment in infrastructure for electric cars to thrive. Many will look to the government to fund it, however it will be up to the private sector to make it functional. Interesting times and boy are they a changing! -
I love it, weathered just enough to look accurate without being overdone! The updated driveline and detailed underside is perfect. Not sure how you got that picture of it sitting in front of what looks like a real Gulf station, but that just adds to the realism! Great job overall, envious of your weathering skills.

Power Wagon? YES PLEASE ! Maverick? dunno, maybe? Vega? I would like another shot at building that one, mine from the '70's was so poorly done, most likely because I was still figuring out how to use glue and paint!

Buying a compressor
mikemodeler replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Go to Harbor Freight and get an oil less pancake compressor- guaranteed to keep EVERYONE awake in a 1,000 foot radius. Not sure how good it will work, but when you have the chance to be obnoxious, don't let the opportunity pass you by! -
2020 Family Truckster !
mikemodeler replied to 1972coronet's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
My thoughts exactly. It's like they went back to the first generation Colorado pickup and said " Let's take this grille, make it a bit uglier, and slap it on the new 2020 Silverado". -

mikemodeler replied to SteveG's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
Gonna be a few of those kits in my stash that may not have a bed. Love it! -
Thanks Dave, will do. I will also wait for the in person reviews by modelers who put their hands on this kit before I shell out any of my lunch money for this kit and others.

A flawless trade with KHils earlier this week. We've traded before and they have always gone smooth, Kevin even sent me his kit before I was able to send his. Showed up as advertised and will do it again in a heartbeat.

If the 68 turns out to be a decent kit, then I might be in for one and also a 69. I would rather wait than reward Round2 with my money for a kit that has it's fair share of issues.

Hobby Lobby 20% Off All Kits
mikemodeler replied to Mike999's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I remember they would run kits at the 30 or 40% off from time to time. Then they went to 30% off during the holidays. Sometimes they will clearance out kits at 75%, most of the time it's 40%. Whatever the case, I have enough kits to last me several lifetimes so now my purchasing decisions are based on whether or not I will actually build the subject. -
The future of offroading?
mikemodeler replied to iamsuperdan's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Don't forget we are moving towards autonomous vehicles, so offroading in these newer vehicles might not even be an option. Personally, I haven't seen much lately that gets me excited about wanting to buy a new truck. If Chevrolet sticks with the 2020 MY design it revealed yesterday, I know a lot of people who will either buy a 2019 or skip a Chevy altogether. Off roading in a new pickup truck, considering the cost, seems like a foolish thing to do. Buy a decent truck from the 80's and outfit it with a modern engine and beefier suspension pieces and you have a more capable vehicle for a lot less money. -
Modelhaus Offical Update/SA
mikemodeler replied to Mike 1017's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Reading the letter from Don and Carol and some of responses ( along with the original letter that sparked all this) reminded me of a saying someone once said when talking about resin kits and parts- If you see something you like, buy it now because it might not be available later. I didn't realize how important those words were until I went to buy some stuff back in the late 90's before everyone had a website. I called the phone number shown in an ad from an old issue of a model magazine only to find out the business had closed. I was disappointed to learn the resin pieces I finally decided to buy were gone forever but vowed then and there that I would buy stuff as I saw it, even if I wasn't ready to use it. When Fireball Modelworks announced they had the F250 conversion kits ready for order, I placed my order for 3 of them immediately, knowing that it might take me years to use them all but when I was ready to build I would have them. I don't even own one of the Moebius 4x4 kits, but I do have other kits to use the conversions on. So, I will state it again, If you see something in resin that you like, buy it now because it might not be available later. -

Modelhaus Offical Update/SA
mikemodeler replied to Mike 1017's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
So nice to see them recognize that publishing that letter was wrong. If they really wanted to honor Don and Carol, they would do an article and show their operation to the modeling world. While it would be after the fact, maybe it would show us that "casting up some parts" isn't as easy as one thinks. -
Hobby Lobby 20% Off All Kits
mikemodeler replied to Mike999's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
They typically run their model kits on sale right before Christmas- sometimes 20%, sometimes 30%. Unless you need it, wait until after Christmas and use the 40% off coupon. -

I am with on that! I have several versions swirling in my head! -
I got my order from Fireball today, the quality is unbelievable! The detailed instructions are better than any kit instructions and the resin casting is better than most model kits! I am so excited to get started on building mine!

A Better Grill
mikemodeler replied to bill lanfear's topic in Truck Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
I am interested in the Ford Grilles and the GMC grilles, where do I send my money? Nice work, look forward to seeing them available, hopefully soon! -
I think there are probably some resin wheels already out there that could work as substitutes for the 1/20 scale wheels. Between Scenes Unlimited and Fireball Modelworks, I have confidence we will have something either now or in the near future.
