  1. This has been my experience as well. There is usually one or two people there that are looking to buy collections at a decent prices and that can ease the burden of selling a lot of kits.
  2. El Camino's were available with V-6 and V-8 engines. The V-6's were either 3.8L or 4.3L, depending on model year. The V-8's ranged from 267 to a 305 ci (4.3L or 5.0L). This would apply to the last body style they were manufactured in (78-86 model years).
  3. That is very nice, subtle colors but looks period correct. Definitely looks better with the raised suspension!
  4. That is looking very nice. The color choice and details are spot on!
  5. One solution not mentioned is to check and see if there are any model shows/swap meets coming up in your area. These can be a great way to move your stuff to someone else for a minimal cost. No shipping, a small booth fee and a half day of your time can bring the desired result. I do agree that holding on to certain kits and definitely the tools will be the best thing to do as you might find yourself wanting to build something in the coming years and the tools might be useful in other endeavors.
  6. Yes, I am plagued by that same problem. Good news is that I have some vacation time this week and will be sitting at the bench getting some WIPs done.
  7. You have a problem when you are hiding them all over the place- friends and family houses, storage units, trunk of the car, etc. Admitting your problem is the first step, but if you are actively building them and buying more with the intent of building them, then you have nothing to worry about. Those of us who go to places like Ollie's and Hobby Lobby and scoop up discounted kits, we might have a problem!
  8. Thanks for saving me the trip, I was gonna hit them up this week. Just as well, really didn't see anything I need or want.
  9. Nice work, that looks spot on accurate. Yes, those Blazers would rust, but I can't imagine the Scout fared much better!
  10. The nice thing about starting over is that you can decide to set it up differently than the way you had it before. I don't envy the task ahead of you, I have been through it twice and it doesn't get easier! Lots of natural light will help brighten up the work area, nice room to have!
  11. 8 pages and counting and the kit isn't out yet. God help Revell once it hits the shelves and there is something wrong with it.
  12. I sold one of the LUV kits last year at a swap meet, I think I got $50 for it, might have been more. I had thought about building it but realized I have enough kits and sold it to someone who had been looking for one.
  13. If you have the time, a visit to the Petersen Automotive Museum in LA is a good place to spend a few hours. Take the vault tour as there are some great cars in there to see as well. The hobby shops listed are worth the time, just be careful to not buy too much, the shipping will kill your budget!
  14. Fireball Modelworks is developing a 4x4 conversion kit for this model that will have correct pieces to accurately depict a F250/350. I can't wait as his stuff is so darned good and I am sure it will be worth the wait.
  15. Not nearly the ordeal you and your fellow residents of Puerto Rico went through last year, but preparing for Florence last week and riding out what was mostly a wind and rain event here in Charlotte was nerve wracking enough. Yes, hard to believe a year has passed and hopefully every day sees more progress towards a return to how things were. Several forum members were in contact with me through last weekend and am glad to have had their thoughts and prayers working for us. For the people in eastern NC and SC, it will be awhile before they can get back to normal, but there are a lot of folks helping them the best they can.
  16. Heck, I will probably end up trading parts and kits with you like the last time this kit was out! LOL
  17. Thanks, just what I need, another kit!
  18. The sad part is that by hiring a person who is say, 50 years old or so, is that a company looks at them and thinks "They will be a burden to our company as they tend to have medical issues and will miss work" but think that a 30 year old is a perfect hire because they are young and healthy. The reality as I have seen it is that a 30 year old's work ethic is not nearly as strong as the older person. Add in that the younger person will likely move on to another job within 5 years compared to the older person working until retirement and the company finds themselves training another person. I was hired last year to work for a company and so were two other gentlemen. We are in our late 40's to early 50's and the management wanted experienced guys who were willing and able to travel. They had had a younger guy who got tired of traveling and complained about how it ruined his love life and ability to have fun. I was glad to take his spot and have found the job to be rewarding in the sense that I have a secure position with great benefits and salary. I guess everything is in perspective- I already have a house, a spouse and family while the younger guy I replaced didn't and he saw that achieving that would be near impossible while on the road. Yes, companies will employ questionable tactics to sift through resumes and discriminate against applicants. Sad that some companies don't see the short-sightedness of their actions and the actual costs. I sure hope that lady contacts 5 Guys headquarters to see why they didn't hire her, I don't think she is capable of figuring it out herself!
  19. Good question- maybe it has to do with cost and actual need? There seems to be more light and medium duty 4x4 wreckers, maybe there is more of a need for them in those weight ranges? I seem to recall there were some older AutoCar wreckers built on a 6x6 driveline, I will do some searching.
  20. i pined for this kit for the longest time too Bill! I was able to pick a couple of them up when they were reissued by The Model King and have yet to build them. One of them will get a snow plow, the other might get lifted and bigger tires.
  21. Thanks Chuck! I think the difference is that this is an actual box art model accurately representing the contents while the other one shown in red is an artist's rendering and some liberties were taken with the body dimensions to give the illusion of it being a larger vehicle (Suburban-like).
  22. Great work as usual, excellent details and the craftsmanship is outstanding!
  23. I saw that 66 GTO at a Hobby Lobby tonight and they had shelf space open for the 69 Boss 302 and the 48 Ford Greased Lightning.
