  1. If you have the time, a visit to the Petersen Automotive Museum in LA is a good place to spend a few hours. Take the vault tour as there are some great cars in there to see as well. The hobby shops listed are worth the time, just be careful to not buy too much, the shipping will kill your budget!
  2. Fireball Modelworks is developing a 4x4 conversion kit for this model that will have correct pieces to accurately depict a F250/350. I can't wait as his stuff is so darned good and I am sure it will be worth the wait.
  3. Not nearly the ordeal you and your fellow residents of Puerto Rico went through last year, but preparing for Florence last week and riding out what was mostly a wind and rain event here in Charlotte was nerve wracking enough. Yes, hard to believe a year has passed and hopefully every day sees more progress towards a return to how things were. Several forum members were in contact with me through last weekend and am glad to have had their thoughts and prayers working for us. For the people in eastern NC and SC, it will be awhile before they can get back to normal, but there are a lot of folks helping them the best they can.
  4. Heck, I will probably end up trading parts and kits with you like the last time this kit was out! LOL
  5. Thanks, just what I need, another kit!
  6. The sad part is that by hiring a person who is say, 50 years old or so, is that a company looks at them and thinks "They will be a burden to our company as they tend to have medical issues and will miss work" but think that a 30 year old is a perfect hire because they are young and healthy. The reality as I have seen it is that a 30 year old's work ethic is not nearly as strong as the older person. Add in that the younger person will likely move on to another job within 5 years compared to the older person working until retirement and the company finds themselves training another person. I was hired last year to work for a company and so were two other gentlemen. We are in our late 40's to early 50's and the management wanted experienced guys who were willing and able to travel. They had had a younger guy who got tired of traveling and complained about how it ruined his love life and ability to have fun. I was glad to take his spot and have found the job to be rewarding in the sense that I have a secure position with great benefits and salary. I guess everything is in perspective- I already have a house, a spouse and family while the younger guy I replaced didn't and he saw that achieving that would be near impossible while on the road. Yes, companies will employ questionable tactics to sift through resumes and discriminate against applicants. Sad that some companies don't see the short-sightedness of their actions and the actual costs. I sure hope that lady contacts 5 Guys headquarters to see why they didn't hire her, I don't think she is capable of figuring it out herself!
  7. Good question- maybe it has to do with cost and actual need? There seems to be more light and medium duty 4x4 wreckers, maybe there is more of a need for them in those weight ranges? I seem to recall there were some older AutoCar wreckers built on a 6x6 driveline, I will do some searching.
  8. i pined for this kit for the longest time too Bill! I was able to pick a couple of them up when they were reissued by The Model King and have yet to build them. One of them will get a snow plow, the other might get lifted and bigger tires.
  9. Thanks Chuck! I think the difference is that this is an actual box art model accurately representing the contents while the other one shown in red is an artist's rendering and some liberties were taken with the body dimensions to give the illusion of it being a larger vehicle (Suburban-like).
  10. Great work as usual, excellent details and the craftsmanship is outstanding!
  11. I saw that 66 GTO at a Hobby Lobby tonight and they had shelf space open for the 69 Boss 302 and the 48 Ford Greased Lightning.
  12. Hmmm, I remember the Escalade being the size of a Tahoe, this almost looks like it is Suburban sized. If I have learned one thing in over 45 years of model building is this- don't always believe the box art! (see the recent issue of the Moebius F100 4x4!)
  13. As PT Barnum was fond of saying..."There's a fool born every minute". I am with you on this, I can't see spending that kind of money on a model, no matter what!
  14. Love it! Great job on the detailing. I have always thought it is harder to build a model like this than a stock box build with shiny paint. A lot more skill than I have!
  15. They have a couple of wheels that are available in scale 19" and 23", about the closest they come to big n little wheel sets. Is there a particular wheel you are looking for?
  16. Our late, beloved Harry would be so happy about this model- rear view mirrors AND an alternator bracket!
  17. To this point, how many people have others do work on their 1:1 cars because they lack the skill, time or tools to do it themselves? Many! I have a friend who bought a car that was featured in Hot Rod magazine and is well known for it's uniqueness and there is no way he could pass it off as his own doing, despite being a very talented body man and mechanic. He is quick to tell you who built the car and that he bought it to ENJOY it and the work the builder put into it. As far as a model car goes, (or anything else that I own) once I have sold it I lose all emotional attachment once I deposit the money. Yes, it would bother me if someone tried to take credit for my work.
  18. Those things were brutal to ride compared to the sleds of today! Nice job on that Lee, sure would be nice to see some decals for that sled.
  19. I got my final Modelhaus order today. Lots of chrome goodies and bittersweet memories of a great company.
  20. Despite the hurricane, the USPS just dropped off my box from The Modelhaus. Sad because it's likely the last one I will get. Also because of a glitch that Carol fessed up to, a couple of sets of wheels I ordered did not show up. Now I am off to the model bench to get busy!
  21. Last time I checked this was Gregg's plastic playground that we were invited to play in as long as we follow his rules. Sounds simple enough, I think most of have had to learn what and what not to do. Being here is a privilege, not a first amendment right.
  22. Seeing this has me excited for when these kits hit the shelves.
  23. That is one crusty engine! Great job on the weathering and detailing. Maybe you should call it "Giving life to an old horse"!
