  1. I built a few - a Ferrari, Williams, and Benetton - back in the early 90s when I was just getting back into modelling. I'll try to dig up some photos. They are very simple curbside kits - intended to be motorized, I believe - but the proportions are decent. They are 1/24 to my eyes anyway. The tires are good, but the wheels are just generic dishes that attach with screws. There's no interior - just a shallow, slot car style driver. They're a fun and quick build, look good on the shelf, and probably the only 1/24 scale representation of F1 cars of that period. I imagine an ambitious builder could make something more detailed out of them.
  2. Just completed an excellent trade with Khils. A great guy to deal with.
  3. Trade successfully completed. Thanks, Kevin!
  4. Nice of you to say that, but don't sell yourself short. I like to think that I've improved my skills by being ambitious and challenging myself. I rarely achieve everything I attempt, but I keep trying.
  5. I'm not sure how accurate you're trying to get here, but bear in mind that the kit piece (if you find one) isn't really a correct representation of the real thing. Here's a shot of the restored car that I think shows it pretty well: And the version I made when I built the kit: Good luck with your build - looks like you're off to a good start!
  6. Not sure if you were already aware, but the steering wheel on the Deora was a modified 60-something Oldsmobile unit. That wheel used to be available from the Modelhaus, but alas, no more.
  7. I've got a hankering to acquire one of these: Preferably complete, but would also be interested in a partial kit, or even just the box if that's what you have. Lots to trade here - give me an idea of your wants and interests.
  8. Finished wiring and plumbing the engine:
  9. I've got all those publications - very helpful indeed for building correct replicas. Great work on the Fairlane!
  10. I managed to get most of the engine together. Front cover, oil filter, pulleys and belt, injector and scoop are from Speed City Resin. Wiring & plumbing might have to wait until this cast comes off.
  11. Right - Iowa Shaker in 2006 according to Scalemates.
  12. The Falcon was re-issued in Georgia Shaker, Daddy Warbucks and Wild Child versions around 2005.
  13. Progress has ground to a near halt due to this:
  14. There should be a setting in your printer software for different types of paper. I use a Canon inkjet photo printer and the inkjet decal papers I've used specify that the printer needs to be set for glossy photo paper.
  15. Getting paint on a batch of parts:
  16. How flexible is that tape - can you make small radius curves with it? I used Chartpak crepe tape to recently pinstripe a model I'm working on, but the narrowest I could find was 1/32", so I had to slice it in half. www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/183432-winged-express/
  17. Here's shot of the second car that pretty much resembles what the kit gives you: It would be fun to build a really early pre-wing version of the car. It's all fairly simple and out there to see, plus there's a good amount of reference available, especially for a car that doesn't exist any more. And who's gonna say you got it wrong?
  18. Thanks, Snake! That's a pretty nice replica, especially for one built that far back. At least I have the advantage of being able to start with the MPC kit and the Slixx decals. Like you say, the car changed from race to race - it's a little different in every photo I've found, but at least it's well documented. I'm aiming for kind of an "amalgamation version". I'm getting a bunch of smaller engine and chassis parts ready for painting and then things should start going together.
  19. Yes, kind of odd - I didn't see Bill's post when I wrote mine last night.
  20. Originally the 1963 Lotus-Ford Indy Car by IMC, which was updated a couple of times. The 1965 version was later re-issued by Testors in the "Those Famous Fords" series. The offset suspension pieces are a clue! https://www.scalemates.com/search.php?fkSECTION[]=All&q=imc+lotus+ford*
  21. Applied the pinstriping, some decals (from Slixx) and a few coats of clear. It'll get a few contingency decals later. Brush painted the inside of the body and the rear fender wells semi-gloss black to represent raw fiberglas. Onward!
  22. I probably used a light coat of TS-13, but I agree in principle with Ace's suggestion if you're going for absolute authenticity. I don't believe they were using clear coats back then.
  23. MCW lists 6002 Ermine White as the Chaparral color. It's available in lacquer or enamel. https://mcwfinishes.com/shop I used the lacquer when I did my 2D.
  24. Setting to work on the pinstriping. I'll be using 1/32" Chartpak tape cut in half, which is probably not quite to scale, but about the thinnest I think I can feasibly work with. First, made a chart of the striping with approximate lengths: I did the striping on top of the cowl first: I think I can pull this off! After I get the striping done I'll lay a good coat of clear on it to stick it all down and even it out a little. Inside of the body will get painted semi-gloss black later.
  25. Gettin' some red on: Next, I'll try to tackle all that pinstriping, because I think the car won't look right without it. Wish me luck!
