What Did You Get Today? (Not Model Related)
chunkypeanutbutter replied to LOBBS's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Couple days ago, I got SimLife at Goodwill. Original 1990 issue in the big box, with 3.5 and 5.25 disks. Original receipt inside states someone paid $52 for it in 1990! -
Auto ID #157 FINISHED
chunkypeanutbutter replied to Harry P.'s topic in Real or Model? / Auto ID Quiz
At first, I thought it was a Rambler, but the grille was upside down... Then I started searching for a GAZ, but then I just quit. -
Try some two-part/ five minute epoxy to fuse the solder back together.

Cannonball Run 2015 " The Sleeperball"

I just noticed something... The trailer electrical connector is gone. Where'd it go? I'll find it tomorrow; I have stupid YouTube videos to watch. -

Never question me. Here, you can see the exhaust dumps straight from the headers downwards. The muffler is what I call the "legal cheater," just so a cop could see you have a muffler. Works unless he crawls underneath... Battery is from the Tamiya Lotus Super Seven, and the brake booster is from the Revell '94 Impala. The cloth top is a pocket from a pair of jeans, no less. The left seat is from a Camaro, and the right one is from an Ertl International rig. The Maine license plate (gotta represent Maine in the Cannonball) is from Gofer. So, I guess it did happen. -

Seems I may abandon the trailer unless I locate some more springs... As for the Scout, much progress was achieved today. All in, I think I spent 5 hours at the bench just working on this and this alone. Mounted the engine; painted the rear end; rust powdered everything in the engine bay except the battery, and powdered the underside, as well; added license plate to the rear, and painted the number light; painted the tail lights (no lenses, they were lost long ago; decided to paint the spaces silver and then Tamiya Clear Red them); finished the exhaust and the "legal cheater" (explain with pictures tomorrow); made a cloth top, modeled in a folded-down position; installed driver's and passenger's seats; did embossing powder carpet in black; painted dashboard details; made a steering column and used what I believe is a '49 Ford steering wheel; made a longreach shifter with pistol-grip; installed trailer electrical connector; painted, decaled, and installed battery on scratchbuilt tray; installed radiator with electric fans; made upper hose and started on making lower hose; drilled out the headlights and dented the grille, then put it in the PPond; made a paint can and big beverage cooler for the bed, and started on a bowling trophy, of all things. So, I guess I did a little modeling work today. -
Waiting for impulse sales. Someone comes along, sees a kit of a car they have/had or remembers the kit from when they were young and just HAS to have it. Fools.

Usually it works with YouTube links if you just copypaste them. However, if you're using a mobile device, remove the "m." from the "m.youtube.com" so it ostensibly appears as a video and not a link. -

I use CA for most of my builds, but I use Plastruct Plastic Weld/ Weldene alternatively. You could try that; scrape the paint away under the grille, and some chrome off the back; apply some Plastic Weld to each of the surfaces (only a little!) and gently clamp them for a day or so. -

Painted steel wheels it is! Speaking of paint, I just painted the trailer and the dashboard. Of course I notice the trailer axle is crooked after painting it... Bumps in the road. -
Rake the trunk. After looking at it for a while, the unedited one looks far too big and bulky.

Or do double axles in the back! -
I just realized something. I'm on vacation, and most of my time has been watching South Park online and building models. My Playstation 2 has been on for four straight days. Whoops. Not even overheating yet; I guess that new fan I put in it really works.

Sad about the Bug. Why're you letting it go? -
Anybody can be a modeler, but not everyone can be an artist. Amazing! The '32 is simply flawless.

Black one. No wiper, smaller wheels. I think... Very outstanding. Sharp colors.

(nearly) All the stuff needed to finish this up... Probably will find more junk to go into it. The little bottle is a NOS bottle, which will go in the engine compartment. The box hasn't decided on what it'll be yet. The bike will most likely come along for the ride. -

Thanks for the kind words, guys! Nearly there now! This is most certainly not completely realistic... but I display my models right side up, and when someone does look underneath, I want at least a little representation of realism. Rear suspension parts are from the Revell '94 Impala SS. That kit disgusted me. Even at the $15 I paid for it (my birthday money, mind you) I felt ripped off; of blatantly snap-kit origin. Enough complaints! Getting a perfect stinkbug stance here! I want it this way just so it has a little air of custom under all the dilapidation. During the drying periods (and the blank periods of my mental capacity on the truck) I've been working on this companion trailer. Made from a Ford pickup bed and some Evergreen stock. A piece of diamond plate from a big rig and some flat sheet comprise the toolbox on the front, and the frame and yoke are made of 5/32" I-beam. The axle (not pictured) is a simple rod connecting two steel wheels with a straw on the outside. Yes, the trailer will roll! (The truck won't, but, things in their own time...) Planned wheels for the Scout will be either grimy steel wheels or equally grimy chrome wheels from the Ford Flareside kit. Tires will be of the Goodyear Custom Wide Tread Polyglas variety. -

NAPA custom mixes paint in rattlecans if you have the paint code. Other people have said Cub Cadet cream is close.
