Pulled a stalled build off the shelf today. Ford Flareside pickup, the AMT/Ertl kit. Chopped the rear half of the frame off with the intentions to stretch it and make a wedge or flatbed race hauler. What should I make the sections for the stretch out of? I was thinking flat plastic sheets, piled up with glue in in between each, let it dry and then cut to shape, but is there another way you guys do it that's better? Thanks.

Lack of motivation to build
chunkypeanutbutter replied to MPi-KM's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
When I can't finish a build, I just go and dig in the boxes for something interesting, maybe an engine block or a frame. Paint it, clean it, make it look nice, set it aside for a later project. It's a good mind-limbering exercise for modeling block. -
There are people on here who scratch up some insane stuff. Whole cars built from sheet and strip stock! They take all the measurements, divide them down to scale, and recreate them flawlessly. If one person can do it with no compensation other than the pleasure of building, why can't a huge multinational corporation pay people to do it, too?

Here's a few things I hate when modeling. - Things sticking to my fingers. - Things falling from my glue-covered fingers - Orange peel - Tools that lose themselves - Parts that do the same thing - Agonizingly slow builds - Krylon paint heaviness Things I love to balance it out.... - Puttying a bunch of cars together and making a weird custom - Primer! - Seeing a finished product and being extremely happy - Embossing powder carpet - Decal applications day of the build - Mockups - Opening a package after a long school day - Scratchbuilding something over the course of an hour, then throwing it away because it's ugly

Have to dream for the BRE Datsun the pickup, and the Porsche... -
I cut my hair off. Buzzed it. First time ever. Took one look in the mirror... Heck, I look like Col. Kurtz. Messaged my sister a picture of myself, she said the exact same thing. Telepathy?

We found this clamp-y thing in Walmart once. Goes around a light fixture, has LEDs on the bottom so you can read better under it, I guess. Thing never worked, so we use it instead for the liquid cement bottles. It's bigger than a hockey puck, and it won't tip over. If you can't find one, maybe a block of wood with a hole drilled in it, two-part epoxy the bottle in.

Saw this in Walmart and had to get it. You even get a little skateboard in the back! Alas, it's molded in. Nice roof detail, too. Little detail painting and some decals, it'll look nice!

'78 Ford Pickup Wheels?
chunkypeanutbutter replied to W-409's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I'm pretty sure that the 4x4s would use 6- or 8-lug wheels, but leave it to someone else to say definitively. -
Holy cow...I WANT this...

We all have made some pretty bad models, I bet. Here's what I consider to be my worst. Made back around when I was seven or eight, maybe. This is all that's left of it. The hood, I glopped on a bunch of Testor's Black and tried to make it look like carbon fiber with paper towels. The AAR decal wouldn't stick to the weird surface it made... I guess I really wanted the rear panel to stay there! Seeing this, I'm kinda glad I don't have the rest of it. The paint did come out nice, though. What do you consider to be your worst existing build?

Cal-Look Bug - Back Again! 2015.5.20
chunkypeanutbutter replied to chunkypeanutbutter's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Wheels! Tires! Olè! Tires that came with the Watanabes are Pirellis... but they're wayyyy too big. I'll save them for when I make a Fiat slalom car some day. Chopped the rear of the rims down and put them into these tires from a '34 Ford diecast. Look at how much I had to cut from these! And, a little mock-up. Have to drop the spindles for the wheels to look right. -

So the paint is a little less orange-y... I did get the wheels. Pictures later when I decide to get up. -
