1955 chevy Bel air sedan AMT fitment
blizzy63 replied to ChainsawMike's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Actually, to correct myself: The problem with the transmission tunnel was between the interior tub and the top of the chassis fit at the trans tunnel. Some grinding down/away was needed. -
For the Hot Wheels series, I’m surprised that they chose the ‘69 COPO Camaro over the AMT ‘68 Camaro Z/28 Street Machine kit. Add some redline tires, an RS grille, and include the blower setup and you’d have a decent ‘Heavy Chevy’ Hot Wheels model…

1955 chevy Bel air sedan AMT fitment
blizzy63 replied to ChainsawMike's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I built one as a gasser using the supplied SB Chevy engine/trans and straight front axle from a ‘55 Nomad kit. If I recall correctly, needed to Dremel the transmission tunnel down to set over the transmission properly. Also, I fashioned a transmission bracket from a scrap frame to help hold everything up. Also, the chassis had a bow to it that I had to heat-straighten to fit into the body properly. This kit was definitely a case of test-fit everything! -
Your info is bang-on. The SMP 1960 Chevy promos had no-detail metal chassis. The SMP 1960 Impala kits (HT, conv.) had detailed, platform-style chassis w/ engine detail built-in. (Photo below 1) The AMT Jr. Trophy 1960 Chevy Wagon (1963 kit, photo below 2) apparently used the 1960 Impala kit chassis to economically create a new, simple kit. It has less detail than the '60 annual, so I wonder if it was derived from the 1959 (or other) chassis? The Impala-style 6-taillights on the Jr. Trophy wagon kit is odd since the 1960 dealer-promo Nomad wagon model had the correct 4-taillights (?).

John, at this point in the thread, I don't know where the sarcasm begins and ends. I happen to agree with Christopher, above. I think that this new AMT Craftsman Plus '60 Nomad kit is impressive and I will be purchasing one. I have an AMT '59 El Camino donor kit on stand-by for an engine, etc. The dogdish hubcap option supplied in this kit does have me baffled too. They don't represent anthing in the real world. It has me asking: Why bother? Anyways, thumbs up to Round2!

AMT '36 ford gasser coming next year !
blizzy63 replied to Mr mopar's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Yeh. It’s only been 20 years since the last re-issue (2005)… -
AMT/Ertl created and released their new-tooling '58 Edsel Pacer hardtop in 1999 (kit no. 30032) and it has been re-issued at least four times since. One was even a pre-painted 'Custom Shop' kit (30245). The last re-issue by Round2 was in 2018 (AMT-1087). I'm sure that one can easily be obtained from somewhere...

AMT '36 ford gasser coming next year !
blizzy63 replied to Mr mopar's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
The original issue (‘36, 1961) contained only the stock grille and the custom/competition grille shell with the opening for the custom grille bars. The first re-issue (2336, 1965) replaced the custom grille shell with the solid nose piece for the gasser version. (The stock-height 3W coupe roof replaced the chopped top here as well). Thought it incredibly generous for Round2 to include BOTH grilles, roofs and fender skirts in their re-issue of 2013. -

AMT '36 ford gasser coming next year !

I'm guessing that it will be a re-pop of the AMT/Round2 824 '36 Ford kit from 2013 with a reproduction of the 1968 T243 Gasser 'art box' with appropriate decals. The last re-issue from Round2 (AMT-824) included both 3W coupe roofs, stock and chopped, which was great. [AMT/Round2 824 box top then original T243 kit contents shown below] -

So does the price...!! Circa-2005, it was C$12.97. We haven't had model kits in our Walmarts in Canada since. -

I gotta think it's a rebox of the recent (2022) AMT1328 '66 Thunderbird kit. I can see the tonneau cover illustrated on the side of the box. "Customizing Series" ?? I wonder which AMT '57 Bel Air kit that is? -

Three engines for the 1965 Plymouth Barracuda: Slant-6 - 225 c.i., 145 hp, 1-bbl., 8.2:1 c.r. Standard V-8 - 273 c.i., 180 hp, 2-bbl., 8.8:1 c.r. Commando V-8 (optional) - 273 c.i., 235 hp, 4-bbl., 10.5:1 c.r. (illustrated below) Transmissions were the Automatic 3-speed Torqueflite or the optional 4-on-the-floor manual with Hurst linkage (only the Valiant had a 3-speed manual).

I was always convinced of the same thing with the AMT ‘65 Ford Fairlane kit. I hear-tell that the Fireball 500 kit was derived from the AMT ‘66 Valiant Signet promo mold. We’ll soon be able to compare the platform chassis to the new ‘65 Barracuda kit. The Fireball’s “Hemi” engine certainly is a match to the old AMT ‘65-66 Barracuda kit “Hemi” V-8.

Look forward to building some old box-art draggers... but what engine...? [Illustrations: 1) AMT 6855 '65 Barracuda kit box (side); 2) AMT 6856 '66 Barracuda kit box; 3) AMT 6855 instruction]

Can this be cleaned up
blizzy63 replied to junkyardjeff's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Last time I saw something like that on clear window glass was the effects of excessive clear lacquer... I would at least attempt to restore with my old Novus plastic polishes. I always used them on old kit clear window/windshield glass. -
Microscale.com has some nice vintage gas station decals in HO, N, and O scale. Some work well as car decals. No Texaco, sadly. [ Quick links > Gas Stations (GAS) ]
