I gotta think it's a rebox of the recent (2022) AMT1328 '66 Thunderbird kit. I can see the tonneau cover illustrated on the side of the box. "Customizing Series" ?? I wonder which AMT '57 Bel Air kit that is?

Three engines for the 1965 Plymouth Barracuda: Slant-6 - 225 c.i., 145 hp, 1-bbl., 8.2:1 c.r. Standard V-8 - 273 c.i., 180 hp, 2-bbl., 8.8:1 c.r. Commando V-8 (optional) - 273 c.i., 235 hp, 4-bbl., 10.5:1 c.r. (illustrated below) Transmissions were the Automatic 3-speed Torqueflite or the optional 4-on-the-floor manual with Hurst linkage (only the Valiant had a 3-speed manual).

I was always convinced of the same thing with the AMT ‘65 Ford Fairlane kit. I hear-tell that the Fireball 500 kit was derived from the AMT ‘66 Valiant Signet promo mold. We’ll soon be able to compare the platform chassis to the new ‘65 Barracuda kit. The Fireball’s “Hemi” engine certainly is a match to the old AMT ‘65-66 Barracuda kit “Hemi” V-8.

Last time I saw something like that on clear window glass was the effects of excessive clear lacquer... I would at least attempt to restore with my old Novus plastic polishes. I always used them on old kit clear window/windshield glass.

Microscale.com has some nice vintage gas station decals in HO, N, and O scale. Some work well as car decals. No Texaco, sadly. [ Quick links > Gas Stations (GAS) ]

I’m seeing a tinge of blue in that red. A colorist may describe that red that’s leaning slightly towards purple as ‘crimson’ or ‘bright crimson’ (but not deep or dark crimson). Plus there’s that high gloss that’s giving yet another stunning effect.

This kit has been released and re-released at least a dozen times since 1962 and I believe that the optional Meteor grille has been in all of them. So there are many floating around out there…

Once apon a time, Modelhaus supplied reproductions of '59-60 Chev dogdish hubcaps on wheel outers, chromed (shown here painted up for a restoration project).

The announcement at Akron NNL of a coming AMT '63 Pontiac Lemans convertible (AMT1416) brings me hope of a future '63 Tempest/Lemans hardtop (à la the AMT '64 Cutlass/442 and MPC '68 Coronet kits). This would put on the horizon for me a future-build of a subject long haunting my mind... (I've got a couple of '62 Pontiac Catalina donor kits on stand-by...) 🤞

Thanks, Tim. I just really appreciate it when Round2 improves-by-restoring the older AMT/MPC kits. They've been doing so for the last decade and I will continue to cheer them on and $upport them. Also thanks for directing us to Norm Veber's great work at R&MofM. The photo I used above is, I believe, one of his recent products (P-195). Soft rubber AMT 'Authentic Model Turnpike' Firestone Darlington tires. They were included in the original-issue AMT '58 Impala and '59 El Camino kits, as well as Turnpike Replacement Parts pack. I'd love to collect as many of these as I can [afford]. I really wish Round2 would reproduce these...
