The AMT '34 Ford Pickup kit (as well as the Lindberg re-issues) came with an all-chrome 1961-62 Ford Thunderbird FE 390 V-8. Below is my Ford FE 390 that I de-chromed and painted in stock colors. The FE 427 in the '32 Vicky kit is behind it for comparison.

I'm liking those TIRES! Anyone know if they were issued in any other kits?

Not the prettiest look for this model...but typical of the 1960s (I still like the box art). The 1965 re-issue (2334) of this AMT kit with (?) '64 Corvette wheel covers. Plus some real 1:1 '64 Corvette wheel covers for comparison...

Flatheads with speed equipment
blizzy63 replied to junkyardjeff's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I built my chopped AMT '36 Ford 3-window coupe using the stock '36 engine block with the addition of heads and intake from the Revell '32 Ford Sedan kit (85-2062). The Revell '37 Ford pickup kit (85-4516) also has a very nice hot rod '40-48 flathead ripe for the pickins. -

"Where were you in '62", a movie poster once asked. This AMT kit dates back to 1962 and the above kit (AMT1120 from 2018) is not only another of many re-issues over the years but a nostalgic flashback to the cutting edge of model car kits (at that time). AMT did not number their parts during this period but focused on order-of-assembly. Locating parts on the trees was a matter of identifying-by-eye (I figured it out quite easily at age 10). The quality of the kit is quite good (it is certainly excellent for 1962). For your enjoyment, here are my efforts on the subject from the last 25 years:

Stock parts for this kit
blizzy63 replied to junkyardjeff's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Your original AMT “for ‘68” kit was a carryover from the 1967 Camaro kit but as a custom only offering. AMT lost the Chevrolet Motor Division contract to make the 1968 promotional models to MPC. AMT continued to make “for ‘68” subjects without stock versions. The later AMT ‘68 Z-28 kit may be the best source stock ‘68 parts like engine, interior, grille, hood, taillights, wheels. I’ve never directly seen a “for ‘68” Camaro kit so I’ve never made a side-by-side comparison with a later AMT ‘67/68 Camaro kit. -

Back Before the EPA
blizzy63 replied to thatz4u's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
There was a time when the VW Bug was just a cheap, throwaway automobile. While many would love to have a Mustang, all they could afford is a used Beetle. Later "enthusiasts" made them more desireable and valueable. -
Mark is right. But for the correct diamond pattern on the sidewall, the old MPC Goodyear Power Cushion tires are/were best. The old Revell Goodyear Custom Nylon tires also come to mind but they are/were too skinny and crude and the inside-diameter was for wider early Revell wheels.

Revell '57 Chevy Re-issue
blizzy63 replied to TransAmMike's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
The top of 1957 Chevrolet front fenders do have a peak. The recent Revell '57 Chevy kits have the peak as well as the body mold part line just to the outside of the peak. Those mold lines need to be sanded away for an accurate depiction model. -

Really hoping that that AMT-1474 ‘65 Olds 88 Modified Stocker kit has MORE extra parts from the original ‘65 Oldsmobile Dynamic 88 annual kit. I really want the Starfire wheel covers and the COMPLETE blower set-up.

The stock kit (top) shows a ‘65 Chevy II hardtop in the regular Nova trim (not Super Sport). I hope that the actual kit is in the Super Sport trim, like on the Resto Mod kit box art.

AMT 53 Ford pickup engine swap
blizzy63 replied to slusher's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
For a '53 Ford pickup, instinct would tell me to swap in a Cadillac 365/390, a Ford Y-block or Ford FE 352/390/427. A real oddball would be a 1962-63 Chrysler Ram Induction/Max Wedge 413/426. The optional engine was supplied in the AMT '49 Mercury Coupe kit back when it was Mopar's latest-greatest Super Stocker mill. (Both AMT '53 Ford pickup and '49 Mercury kits were originally released in 1963.) Such an engine swap in either vehicle circa-1963 would have been rare and expensive. -
Better motor for MPC '76 Caprice
blizzy63 replied to ranma's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
1976 was the final year for a big block in a Chevrolet automobile. The 1977 Chevrolet full-size was a completely redesigned animal and had a small block 350 as its biggest engine. The ‘76 full-size was available with a 225 net h.p. Turbo-Jet 454. I’ve only seen one such factory-equipped Caprice in my life (see my post above).
