Chrome Reverse Wheels
blizzy63 replied to bluestringer's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
The chromed wheels that are in the last re-issue of the AMT '36 Ford (AMT-824) are a very nice looking set and are the same as the ones included in the AMT 'Custom Caps 'n Wheels' Parts Pack (AMT-PP021). The reproduction original Ala Kart's/ Mod Rod's wheels are in there too. -

I believe the AMT "Sweet Bippy" kit was the first re-issue of their 1966 Ford Galaxie 7-litre hardtop kit in 1969 (T328). It is due to be re-issued in this retro-style box this year by Round2 as kit AMT-1393. -

Round 2 car and truck kit product news at 2023 DAAM Show....
blizzy63 replied to tim boyd's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Not sure if you’re referring to the engine in the model or the illustration that I provided from the 1960 Ford truck brochure. If you’re referring to the model, yes, perhaps. Only the valve covers look definitely Y-block. The mill is kinda hot-rodded up so it’s tough to say. The distributor appears to be at the rear. I’ll be gathering up my old ‘56-57 Y-block engine parts to see if I can enhance that motor some. I have an engine from an original 1960 Thunderbird annual which I will be making a side-by-side comparison in the (near?) future. The brochure illustration is certainly a 292 truck Y-block. -

When AMT/Ertl re-issued this old kit (#8351) with a couple of restored vintage parts in 1998, I welcomed it. But I couldn't figure out what was so "Pro Shop" about it...(?)

Round 2 car and truck kit product news at 2023 DAAM Show....
blizzy63 replied to tim boyd's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
The AMT 1960 Ford Thunderbird annuals (#1260 hardtop and #11260 convertible) had opening hoods and an engine — one of the firsts for annuals begining that year. That would make it a more desireable kit to repop for me since the '59s were produced as promo-style 'curbside' kits (#1-TCK convertible, #1-THK hardtop) with no engine or opening hoods. The '58 was only a promo. The '60 Thunderbird kit was once-and-only re-issued as a convertible in 1969 (T-132). And I'm definately in for the '59 Invicta hardtop! — That's one of my "holy grails"... (Heck, I'll take a '60 Buick hardtop as well!) -

If the kit is a faithful reproduction of the original 1960 kit, it should come with '57 Plymouth-type aftermarket cone-style wheel covers as "custom hubcaps". -
What kits have thin whitewall tires?
blizzy63 replied to R. Thorne's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
The latest AMT '58 Chevy Impala kit ('Ala-Impala' Round2 AMT1301) has skinny Firestones with a fat whitewall on one side and a white-stripe whitewall on the other. The undesidered side can be painted over with a matt black. -
I gotta plug the old Halibrand 5-slot kidneybean mag wheel with 3-blade knock-offs. It was the original wheel in the first AMT Shelby Cobra kit (#2170) and needs to be returned to that kit. It's a great all-purpose vintage sports car wheel (1955-63 era) and looks good painted up for competition or polished up for the car show. The wheel was (is?) available in an AMT parts pack and was last available in 1997 in their AMT/Ertl 8435 Custom & Competition Parts Pack. The availability of that parts pack is fading into the past and needs to be renewed. (And, yes, I'd like to see the AMT Firestone Darlington racing tire reproduced along with a Goodyear Sports Car Special racing tire!)

1/25 AMT 1966 Mustang GT -- Original Annual & Modified Reissue
blizzy63 replied to Casey's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
A greenish Metallic Turquoise is a beautiful color but I'm not sure about it being a factory '66 Ford paint color. (I've used the now-gone Model Master 2945 Turquoise Metallic in the past but I've never seen the Testors 'Extreme Lacquer' 371165Turquoise version before.) You're funny... I've been watching LHSs close since 1992. We just lost another one last month locally (34 miles away). I'm down to one here locally and three further afield over water (65 to 75 miles away). Typical kit prices are $41 to 59 Cdn. ($46 - 66 with sales tax) The best I can do, money-wise, is at Michaels with their coupon discount is $35 Cdn. per kit ($39.20 with sales tax), but their selection is e x t r e m e l y limited. Otherwise, if there's a kit or part that I m u s t have, it's on-line I go to pay a killer Shipping charge...?

Round2/ AMT '55 Chevy Nomad Wagon Kit Coming in 2023
blizzy63 replied to stavanzer's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Pretty much what I plan to do with my next "Wompin' Wagon". I don't need it opening up on the drag strip. I never liked the way the tailgate opened on this old Trophy kit anyways...fragile hinges and all... (Mind you...I'll glue it shut from the inside...) -

Seriously? This kit? (See image) I don't think that it was ever re-issued. Correct me if I'm wrong...

Love your museum, Dave. Very cool...!

When I was 11 yrs. old (1974), this box art had me drooling like it was made of candy... but I wasn't a big enough a Corvette fan to shell-out my (parents') money for one. Today, I appreciate it as the historical relic that it is: One of the first AMT/SMP annuals (1960) to feature an engine and an opening hood. (I did eventually get one. Found one at a local antique mall.)

AMT 64 Mercury Marauder question
blizzy63 replied to cobraman's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Yes. It has been noticed by me and some others... even the 'hpiguys Workshop' guy on YouTube. Round2 recently (c. 2020) redesigned the old AMT Firestone Supreme tires that were in many AMT car kits since about 1964. The new tires are skinnier, which may be more accurate for some vintage subjects, but the I.D. are noticeably larger than the originals. The old originals were a little notorious for being a bit tight to fit wheels into, especially if the vinyl had hardened. I've recently used a set of these new tires with a set of AMT Hurst mag wheels and I had to add a strip of masking tape around the wheels to make a snugger fit into the tires. Below: New (left) and old (right) design -
