If that's not Kelly Clarkson, it sure could be!

That's so you can lose or screw up two of them and still finish the model. Great idea! Ironically, at least half of us won't even be using these spotlights. At least not on this model. (They might make good swap fodder, hmmmmm....)

'70 Superbird Build Ideas Wanted

I'm actually amazed I didn't get the standard smartass "Box it up and send it to me." -
I have one of those but am planning to use it. Be glad to lend it to you if you have the capability to resin-copy, or I could try to sili-clone it for you.

Pretty slick! I'm actually planning to do something very similar to that using the Fireball 500 '66 Barracuda body and the phantom Superbird nose from the MPC '71-'72 Road Runner. I kinda like that wing, though.... -

You do one and I'll see if I like it. -
Hmmm. Did that Popeye win every fight and always get the girl? I'd buy a kit of that car even if not, though. Could make a T-37 out of it.

I told you, I'd have swapped you a stock flat Mustang hood for that bubbled one you don't like....
-
Laid a couple more coats of color on the Mustang. Had to open a second "little bottle" of Testor Dark Blue to drive on. (Which means it already has a full bottle on it! ) That should be enough. Will let it dry a day or two and then decide if I want to try to polish the paint out, or start laying on the Testor Clear Gloss Lacquer (two coats of which look just FABULOUS on my spoon test). Meanwhile, I really think my old Badger 350 airbrush is on its very last legs. Checked prices and accessory availability on the net today, and will probably order a new one tomorrow. I almost feel like I'm contemplating putting down the family pet.

I weep for that poor Barracuda body....

I bought this builtup at an estate sale in the early '90s. It was built from the '80s reissue, which included the Hemi engine and the '68 type round side marker lights. The grille and rear panel are however clearly '69 features. More recent reissues of this kit have a 383 and correct '69 side markers. When I got around to getting into it a few months ago, it was filthy but, underneath the crud, not too badly built (as these things go). It's molded in orange and at first I thought the builder had just shot some clearcoat on it; I was gonna strip the clear, polish the orange plastic, replace the scooped hood with a stock one, and restore it to stock. I looked around for an orange hood for a while but never did find one. Then I discovered that the model actually had orange paint over orange plastic. Huh! What kind of orange paint I don't know, as it's a little “redder” than good old Testor Orange. It was built long before the Testor and Model Master laquers appeared, so it wasn't any of those oranges. Maybe it's a long-gone Pactra color, or some kind of household rattlecan orange. Whatever, since I didn't want to repaint the thing (if I'd wanted to paint one, I'd have just started with a new kit), I was now kinda stuck with using the Hemi-scooped hood. Whatever the paint was, it polished up pretty nicely with Wright's Silver Cream. I polished the glass, re-did the window and body trim with Silver Sharpie, detailed the grille with black and Testor Steel, and touched up the worn-away chrome on the bumpers with DecoColor Premium Silver Leaf Marker (90% as good as Molotow, but cheaper, tougher, and dries faster). I didn't care for the wheels and tires it came with, and by the time I got around to working on it, one of them had disappeared anyway. Rather than spend a few hours trying to find something I liked in spares to replace them with, I cheated and just openend up a new reissue copy of the kit and pirated all the rolling stock out of that. So what do I have a model of? Near as I can figure, it's a '70s street freak, perhaps converted from a now-obsolete drag car (it's a Hemi, remember). There's always the option to find some appropriate decals, replace the front tires with something skinnier, and call it a 1969 A/MP or match racer, or even an early (first year) Pro Stock. But it's kinda cool as a street freak. The rehabbed model looks surprisingly good to me. If I had set out with a new kit to build one exactly this way, mine would have only looked maybe 5-10% better. I'd have deepened the panel lines and removed all the molding marks, and my paint would be a little better, but it would look pretty much just like this one does. I hope the fellow who built it originally would be as proud of it as I am. Thanks for looking, and as always, comments welcome.

Fine 'woven' steel screen sources
Snake45 replied to 89AKurt's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I was looking for this a while back. At Walmart I found a set of two frying pan "splatter guards" for about $7 that looked like just what I was looking for. Gave one to The Lovely Mrs. Snake for the kitchen and will put the other to use of some kind eventually. One should be a lifetime supply. https://www.google.com/search?source=hp&ei=pIbiXvG-J4HD1QGJx4HYDw&q=walmart&oq=walmart&gs_lcp=CgZwc3ktYWIQAzIFCAAQsQMyBQgAELEDMgUIABCxAzIFCAAQsQMyBQgAELEDMgUIABCxAzIFCAAQsQMyBQgAELEDMgIIADICCAA6DggAEOoCELQCEJoBEOUCOgUIABCDAToECAAQClCDEljoKGDCKmgCcAB4AIABggGIAYoFkgEDNy4xmAEAoAEBqgEHZ3dzLXdperABBg&sclient=psy-ab&ved=0ahUKEwjxoPeXwPrpAhWBYTUKHYljAPsQ4dUDCAk&uact=5- 16 replies

I just confirmed that the license plates in that one say AMT.

I haven't seen any of the John Wick movies, although I'd like to. (I understand the star has done a lot of SERIOUS firearms training with SERIOUS trainers and exhibits exemplary handling and skills in the films.)

Sounds like the next "Florida man."

I got an eBay purchase last week in a box that looked much like that or worse (outer package), but the rare old model inside was complete, intact, and undamaged, so I had no complaint.

So did Popeye. Not interested in building whatever he drove, either.

Yes, JoHan 1/25. Please don't go to any special trouble, but if you just happen to run across it... -
Yawn.

Since we're on the subject, did anyone ever do decals for the '68 Road Runner with the big RR in the white "cloud" on the sides? I'd like to build that one, but I've never seen decals. I have the Slixx sheet (maybe more than one) but no big cartoons.

I like the gutted interior part. Was kinda thinking of going that way, everything just painted light gloss gray. Couple seats, roll cage, fire extinguisher. -

If you run across the bumper, I could use it, but don't do to any great trouble finding it. I can get by. I've pretty much decided to NOT use a Superbird wing, so don't worry about that at all. I appreciate the assist! -
Very nice, very clean, very realistic level of shine on the finish! Well done and model on!
