  1. Reminds me a little of the wheels in the Polar Lights '65 Dodge I just built-- they can't decide if they want to be Cragars or Americans or Hursts or JC Penny knockoffs or what..... Thanks for the pic, EB. Well done!
  2. Right now, some flash and molding swirls on a new kit would probably be the BEST thing that's happened to me in a couple weeks!
  3. I was thinking of the '70s cars, but that's the same type of thing I'm talking about.
  4. Right! You sure can't use the GTO kit to build an accurate looking stock GTO!
  5. I like your colors better than the box art.
  6. Thanks! I might have a similar wing somewhere in the parts box, and if not, it wouldn't take too long to scratchbuild one. Right now I'm thinking more and more of that 2G Camaro/Firebird spoiler. I'd just cut a slot in the trunk lid edge, and then down the rear fenders about 6 scale inches at a 45* angle, and slip thin sheet styrene in there about 6 scale inches tall, and round off the upper edges. THAT would be different, and possibly very cool! Rear bumper, hmmmm, I think I have, for some reason, an extra chrome tree from an AMT '68 Road Runner or '69 GTX around here somewhere. That might work, and if not, maybe scratch up something simple but functional like a hunk of I-beam running across the back of the car.
  7. There are 7 very good "under construction" photos of the tube frame and interior of Toy XI (the '74) in the Car Tech book. Nothing on IX or X, though.
  8. Finished cleaning up the Mustang body and hood, and shot another coat of blue. Will repeat tomorrow. Did my spoon test of the two clears I bought yesterday on the spoons I airbrushed yesterday with the Testor enamel. The Rustoleum 2X wrinkled up the blue within one minute. The Testor Lacquer hasn't reacted so far, we'll see what happens.
  9. I didn't coin the term "backbirth" though I might have popularized it here. Minor "quality control" problems, many of which are inherent in the injection molding process, don't rise (or sink) to "backbirth" status.
  10. I've been removing flash and molding marks and block-sanding for decades. It's just something that real modelers do.
  11. Yes. Just looking at the pics gave me some kind of a feeling that I couldn't pin down, but I think you got it! Your body profile pic is great. At least I think it looks good, with my head turned sideways.
  12. Thanks! I'm not really interested in building a USAC car but I wouldn't mind seeing the wingless bird if you happen to run across the pics of it. But please don't go to any special trouble looking for them.
  13. The AMT HUG kit is largely based on the '65 funny car of Tom McEwen et al. I think there were some articles written about it at the time, you might try googling to see if you can find any details online. Good luck!
  14. Possibly, but I'm leaning toward the theory that the can was mislabeled, or maybe just old. (It was at least 3 or 4 years old, maybe more.) I did try wet-sanding it and then polishing it, which didn't help much. More details up in the What Did You Accomplish Today thread. It's now out of the alcohol bath with most if not all of the Krylon ick off. Saved most of the blue paint and (knock wood) looks like ALL the putty/bodywork. Now drying out for another go tomorrow. I'll lay another couple coats of blue on, then decide if I want to layer up the blue or try one of the TWO other clears I bought this morning. (Already got spoons painted with the blue, ready to test.)
  15. Actually, since we are talking about Barris, I should have said Kar Karen.
  16. Hello old friends! Oddly, I stumbled upon this thread while google-image searching for S&M's '69 Road Runner. Looks like the subject has been researched before! I'm getting in the mood to build one of S&M's '68 or '69 B-bodies, but not sure which one. Spent the last two nights in the Car Tech S&M book, which isn't all that much help. I can't even figure out how many different cars S&M campaigned in '68 and '69, and details on any one of them except maybe the '68 Hemi Cuda are few and far between. Doesn't help that some of the pics in the Car Tech book are incorrectly captioned. Oh well, I'll sort something out eventually, I suppose. Have already decided to do the '69 Hemi Cuda as the Summer of '69 match racer. (Probably the easiest way to do one.) Bill, did you ever get your original model restored/refurbished? The old pic links here are of course now long dead....
  17. I think someone else here is already building that. Don't want to step on any toes.
  18. Thanks! I hope it survives stripping. Polishing of the Krylon was a disaster, so I'm trying to strip that off without disturbing the blue paint or primer underneath. It's soaking in ISO alcohol even as we speak, and I'm monitoring it closely. I REALLY don't want to go all the way down to raw plastic and have to start all over.
  19. I've actually built several, including a number of M1911 .45 automatics, but that's not too difficult, as parts are readily available. A P.38 is MUCH harder to do, as the parts are harder to find. And to do it as a .22 is rarer yet. It's the only one I've ever seen. I've never shown it to anyone who's ever seen another one, either. Great Balls of Fun to shoot!
  20. Pretty, but as I said, I already have a 1/24 blue one. Sublime is such a cliche. I'm kinda leaning toward that dark burnt orange metallic color, or bronze, of whatever they called it.
  21. Okay, went to Walmart, they didn't have that. Bought Rustoluem 2X "fast drying" clear gloss. Then went to HL, bought two more "little bottles" of the Testor Dark Blue in case I decide to go that way, bought a can of Testor Clear Gloss Lacquer (NOT either Wet Look or Glosscote). The Mustang is soaking in ISO even as we speak, meanwhile I'll airbrush up a couple spoons and see which of the two clears works best, if either of them does. Can always fall back on multiple coats of the blue and polish direct. Gotta get this BOYD project done by the end of the month.
  22. I already have a Petty Blue Monogram Superbird (1/24).
