Very, very close.

Very nice work! Someone else here started doing the same thing a couple years ago, but I don't know how far he got. He was kind enough to send me the remains of his "donor" body so I could do the same thing but I haven't yet started mine. Since then I've found a couple different resincasters doing 1st-Gen stock Chevy IIs at reasonable prices, so it might not be worth the work. Probably gonna try it anyway. Drive on!

And if you're "off the air" completely again, exactly how are we supposed to do that?

What non-auto model did you get today?

Very cool! Not long ago I saw a video of a battery of these at work in Israel, knocking down incoming rockets. I was amazed at how much it reminded me of the '80s video game Missile Command. -
Ollie’s paint score!!!
Snake45 replied to SCRWDRVR's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Due to this thread, I checked out the paints at my Ollie's today. Very little Duplicolor, a few ugly colors of Krylon, lots of empty shelf space. The only thing that came close to tempting me was a few cans of Color Place flat red primer. First time I've ever seen Color Place anywhere other than Walmart. No models, either. A complete waste of my time. Ah shucks oh well, you'll have this with Ollie's sometimes. -

What Did You Get Today? (Not Model Related)
Snake45 replied to LOBBS's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
What's that weirdo gonna do, paint ya? -
Cool! Drive on! Before Modelhaus went OOB I ordered a couple of the full-bumper fronts from the original AMT '70, having determined from an eBay glue bomb that the piece could be made to fit into a current-prod RS kit.

Me too, but then again, I probably set the bar lower than anyone who's posted in this thread so far. If it's good enough for me, it's good enough. If anyone else likes it, that's fine too. If not, I don't care. I discovered long ago that working toward perfection meant I would never get ANYTHING finished. But that's just me. There are a million ways to enjoy this hobby, and I encourage everyone to find the way that works for him.

Very nice! Love the color, and it works well on this. Well done and model on!

Current Hot Rod / Street Rod trends

Traditional, crab claw, seaweed, tribal, and real fire are the ones I can think of right offhand. I think there are several others. -
That's definitely moving in the direction I want to go, but mine will have much, MUCH more "bad assitude." Also can't get the idea out of my mind of trying to do it in bare metal. Not shiny or polished--"brushed" looking steel. If I can figger out how to do it.

Speed parts identification, and period useage

As I understand it, there are a LOT of things on FB that are backwards. And sideways. And upside down. Yet another reason I'll have nothing to do with the place. -
I took a HARD look at it a couple years ago. IIRC, it's a "little bit bent" but some of it is an optical illusion caused by the incorrect roof C-pillars. I could swear I did that at some point. I have a recollection of taking masking tape templates off either the '65 GTO or '64 Cutlass roof (or maybe it was the AMT '64 GTO) and sticking them on the PL C-pillars to show what the problem was, and where. Heck, that masking tape might still BE on my PL GTO body, as I never went any further with it. HA! Found it!

Speaking of classic, isn't that KC Winkler, sort of the Barbara Eden of the hot rod world? -
No, the midyear modification of that one--the '64 GTO hardtop. (Which was sadly modified into the '65 that's still with us today.)

No idea. She just left to go back down to our daughter's for the weekend, will try to remember to ask her Monday.

Thenkyew, thenkyew, you're very kind, I'll be here all week, and don't forget to tip your waitress. Seriously, though, I just google-imaged '58 Chevy to see if I could find one anything like my idea. Nope. I was especially looking for any without the chrome strip running down the side. Out of hundreds of google pictures, I only saw TWO, and one of those was in red primer and I couldn't tell if they were planning to put the strip back on eventually. I want to knock all the chrome and tacky fru-fru off a '58 Impala and see what it REALLY looks like under there, just for a change. Thinking of calling it "Scoopy Don't." (Let's see who gets that.) Meanwhile, yours is looking quite nice. For a '58 Impala, I mean.

The PL '64 has some shape problems, some of which can be corrected fairly easily. Best '64 GTO is still the original (now rare) AMT. The Revell '66 is a pretty nice kit, but in some ways the original MPC (which has now degenerated into the hacked-up MPC/AMT '67) was better in shape. You can kind of piece a nice '69 together starting with the promo body in the reissued Judge funny car. For a nice '65 and '69, check out the inexpensive Welly diecasts. Not perfect, and a tiny bit undersized, but can look great on your shelf with a little work (and not much money at all).

I never thought I'd ever hear anyone else say such a thing! Maybe we were separated at birth! I'm feeling the urge to build something acceptably attractive out of a '58 Impala. I have a glue bomb, a box full of spare parts, and a few ideas I don't think I've ever seen anyone else do before....

Very nice, great colors and finish! Well done and model on!

Right. Every time they try to "fix" the headlights (and they've tried at least twice), they make it worse. They keep milling into the mold, which makes the headlights protrude MORE, where what's needed is LESS. They need to weld up those headlight cavities in the mold and start from flat metal and get it right. If they'd give us clear lenses for the headlights, so much the better.

Toilet paper is getting better at Walmart every week. This week for the first time in 3 months they even had the kind we normally use and prefer! YAY! They even had both 12 and 20 packs of it. I just bought a 12-pack because I still have most of the case I had Amazonlifted in in April. (That will remain my "strategic reserve" and if possible, I'm going to just buy one of those 12-packs every 2 or 3 weeks the way we did way back in the Days of Normal.)
