You must have a big tax refund coming. Your car and your major appliances always know, sometimes WAY before you do.

Coronavirus (Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson tested positive)

What a nice way to put it. And, in the same vein, bless their hearts. (Let's see who here speaks Southern. ) -
As my Dad used to say, "You learn something new every day if you're not careful."

"Holy Grail" Models?
Snake45 replied to Billy Kingsley's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Oh, just remembered I've scored another couple grails: JoHan '69 and '70 Javelins, both promos. The '69 is VERY nice and the '70 I'm pretty sure can be restored. -
Could he have been thinking of Father Guido Sarducci? I think he did the weather sometimes. I distinctly remember once he said the night was going to be very clear, "Good night to look for UFOs." BTW, for those of you who love the ancient SNL but don't "get" GYWYHSACWAAP, I just realized she's sort of a 21st Century mashup of two classic Gilda Radner characters: Emily Latella and Roseanne Rosannadanna.

That looks pretty good, and I'm no fan of '58 Chevies. Great color and finish, though--I REALLY like those! Your Snake-Fu was strong with this one, but then you DO already have your Black Belt.

That's a nice model, nicer in some ways than all reissues of the AMT '65 GTO kit, such as the entire front and rear ends. I thought the roof wasn't shaped right, but was able to carve the correct shape (more or less) out of it and preserve the factory paint while doing it. Details here: I also have a gold one like yours...somewhere. I haven't been able to find it for years, but I know its around here SOMEWHERE. Someday I'll probably fix that one, too.

"Holy Grail" Models?
Snake45 replied to Billy Kingsley's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Since that post, I've scored an original AMT '67 Camaro box with instructions and a lot of pieces, a workable '67 Bonneville promo, a Modelhaus '68 Coronet, a second issue (Tiger box) '65 GTO, and two AMT '65 Chevelles--one promo, one Craftsman. -
"Holy Grail" Models?
Snake45 replied to Billy Kingsley's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I just bought one of my Grail kits: AMT annual '66 Riviera, unbuilt, box, instructions, decals, everything. It's nowhere near as good as the "new" one, but that was one of my first two AMT kits back in the day (the other was the Corvair--I honestly don't remember which one I got first). A box full of nostalgia! -
Any trouble with the AMT '66 Nova??
Snake45 replied to Southern Fried's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
You're probably right--thanks! I like to think of these outlaw races as the 21st Century equivalent of the old early Funny Car and and pre-Pro Stock match races. Some cars are clearly faster than others, but on any given day, any of them could beat (or lose to) any other of them due to any number of factors--driver error, breakage, loss of traction, or a hundred other things. I've become quite an addict and now eagerly look forward to Monday nights! -
Indeed it does, especially for subjects I'd like to have on the shelf but don't really want to sink 40-60 hours into for a plastic kit build. And that's if a plastic kit is available AT ALL, which in the case of many of my diecast subjects, none is.

Thanks! Only thing I don't like about it is the color. I'd have preferred metallic blue, or even red. But this is what was on the vendor's table at the toy show, and the price was right, so white it is. It might be available in other colors if you look around, I dunno.

I saw a Charmin commercial on TV last night. Couldn't believe it. Who was THAT for? -

JJ has shown me many times that he's a class act, a man who's quick to give respect and treats everyone fairly. He's truly a man of honor. I was surprised to see him screw up not just one but two races before the big finale. You don't see him lose often, especially by something as stupid as forgetting to turn on the nitrous bottle, and you don't often see ZipTie lose, especially when Precious is driving it. Was good to see him redeem himself with Heifer, though. Beating Kye Kelly (I don't like him, but I respect his accomplishments) is no mean feat. And JJ 60-footed the HAIL out of him! I have to wonder why JJ didn't invite the 405 to his shootout. I also have to wonder why none of the Memphis crew ever runs the No Prep races, even when they're right there in Memphis. -
Are there any wheels out there like this?

Pontiac Rally IIs? Didn't know that. -
Bought this one last month at the local toy show for $15. Pretty clean; not much Snake-Fu to work on it. Sanded the tire treads. White-stemmed the front parking lights. The A-pillars needed a little black touchup, which I did with a gloss black Sharpie Professional. Surprisingly, there are no separate taillight lenses, they're just painted on with a candyapple-like red. I repainted them and the rear side marker lights with Model Master Turn Signal Red. The little black scoop just ahead of the left rear wheel didn't fit well (the right one was fine), so I removed it, trimmed it a little, and glued it back in. Total time maybe two hours, and it takes its proud place on my diecast Corvette shelf. Thanks for looking, and as always, comments welcome.

Another $10 Rite Aid rescue. It scales to a true 1/24. This might be the most perfect cheap diecast I've ever seen. I really had to go looking for improvements to make on it. All I did was sand the tire treads, detail-paint the low areas of the wheels with Black Chrome Trim, paint the rubber parts of the bumper guards with the BCT, and paint the amber parts of the taillights. Total Snake-Fu time was around two hours, most of which was painting the wheels. I'm keeping my eye open for a suitable set of quad round headlights so I can convert it to a US-spec '70 car, which just looks more right to me. Thanks for looking and as always, comments welcome.

And you wouldn't have today, at my Walmart. If I'd been homeless, I'd have moved my whole family into the toilet paper aisle. Plenty of room there--probably about as much as a single- wide trailer. Wasn't a roll of paper towels in the place, either. -
Can Diecast be "distressed" without cracking/breaking it?

I was thinking more in terms of a Lahti L-39 or Solothurn S-18. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lahti_L-39 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solothurn_S-18/100 -
Glad you liked 'em. I knew when I saw that Plymouth that somebody was looking for one. The Dodge, I'd have built myself eventually, but it was so far down on my To-Do List I'd probably have never gotten to it. I was absolutely delighted to learn that you just happened to have the missing rear bumper for it. It was a trade that truly was Meant To Be.

Ironically, I thought you'd lowered it to level it up.

Beautiful work! But that's an AMT kit, not Revell.

That was funny, but I wouldn't credit it with 50 percent of the humor. I thought Jimmy Fallon and Horatio Sanz just blatantly cracking up while Will tried desperately to hold it together was funnier. The funniest part of the sketch, though, is that there's no cowbell in the real song. That's a wood block. The song is about the Grim Reaper. The Grim Reaper knocks on your door, hence a wood block sound. Who ever heard of the Grim Reaper bangin' on a cowbell?
