  1. The 396 wasn't announced until December or January. The Z/28 was announced around the same time. The L78 375hp 396 was never mentioned in ANY of the '67-'69 Camaro showroom literature, even though it was available and thousands were built and sold.
  2. More pics please!
  3. Thank you for your work and your service. Stay healthy and God bless you.
  4. Ain't it the truth! I've been laid off since the first of February* and loving every minute of it. Just finished my 18th project of the year. I wouldn't know there was a "crisis" except the talk radio people talk of nothing else now. *Had nothing to do with coronavirus. I just came to end of my "3 to 5 week" temp work gig after 11 months. I had no complaints.
  5. How about this for a compromise. Maybe post a pic or two once or twice a week in the "Accomplish" thread of some particularly interesting work, with an invitation and link to your full Workbench thread. That would keep up the interest in your build, without making the rest of us look/feel like Lazy Slacker Schlubs. Sound like a good idea?
  6. I can imagine. I had an old girlfriend who drove an MG Midget. I could only just barely get in the passenger seat, and I'm 5'10". I had to drive it once and I thought I'd never get into--or out of--it. Once was quite enough. Opening the trunk of that thing reminded me of opening my old 1960s lunchbox.
  7. Finished up the rescue of an old '69 Barracuda that I started many months ago. It's my 18th finished project of the year, and I think my 7th rescue of the year. Guess I've put off finishing up my BOYD build EMPI Imp as long as I can. I really need to get back on that little beast if I want to get it done by the end of the month.
  8. Unfortunately, for me, it seems to work as a curse or Kiss of Death for a project. I lay my process naked on the table for the world to see, and sure enough, either something goes horribly wrong or I just simply lose interest in it and move on. This is why in most cases I wait until a build is safely finished and then maybe include a few WIP pics in the Under Glass writeup. BTW, Steve, on your next build, if you're running a full WIP thread in this section, no need to duplicate your posts in the "What Did You Accomplish Today" thread in General. That just doubles your posting work time and eats up twice as much bandwidth. That thread's mainly for those of us who don't get NEARLY as much done done every day, or on a regular basis, as you do.
  9. Looking on the bright side, you might be able to simply slip under a certain percentage of them.
  10. What he said.
  11. Went to Walmart last Thursday, instead of waiting until Saturday. No toilet paper, though I saw a couple people coming out with it as I was walking in, so I just missed it. No eggs--not one egg of any kind! The hot dog racks were empty except for a good supply of the kind I regularly buy, so I got a couple of those. Unlike last week, they had LOTS of paper towels, but were almost out of Kleenex--I got the last two boxes. Didn't have my regular DiGrornio pizza, but oddly, they did have plenty of the "pan" kind, which I like but they almost never have, so I got two of those. The first day I heard about TP shortages, I also heard that there was going to be a shortage of diet sodas. This one hasn't come to pass--so far they've always have plenty. What would I do without my Diet Dr. Thunder?
  12. Yup, it's one of the Four Basic Food Groups: Ground Beef, Chips, Cookies/Cake, and Leftovers.
  13. My Dad saw it coming:
  14. Thanks! My day is complete! Seriously, I know this section doesn't get nearly the traffic that the styrene Under Glass does, but if I get comments from you, Randy, and Geno, I'm happy. -Ish.
  15. "Dark gray" is a pretty nebulous description. Google up Tamiya's paint color chart and pick out the color that looks like what you want.
  16. Very clean build. Well done and model on!
  17. Semigloss/Matte. Note that Testor also has a "semigloss black" in the little bottles but it is NOT the same thing, unfortunately.
  18. Thanks, Randy! It was a very low bar. I thought you'd NEVER show up, Geno! I gave serious consideration to your enthusiasm for the idea of squirting it in matte olive drab and calling it Warbird, but then came up with a new black primer I wanted to try, and found some pics of a nice-looking murdered out '69 Firebird on the net. Now if my old friend Gramps will weigh in....
  19. Another vote for that. Ask for it by name. Worth special ordering if you have to.
  20. That's a nice car, but it's not a STOCK car. Description reads: 327 CID L79 with 350HP Engine 4 Speed Manual Transmission with Hurst Shifter Marina Blue with White Convertible Top Rally Sport Appearance Package with DSE Headlight Kit added Power Front Disc Brakes Power Steering Tubular Control Arms with Traction Bars Aluminum Radiator with Twin Electric Fans Chrome Valve Covers and Air Cleaner White Convertible Top Parade Boot Cover White Vinyl Bucket Seat Interior with Seat Belts Dakota Digital Gauges and Wood Grain Steering Wheel AM/FM Stereo with Kenwood Amplifier and Power Antenna Recently Restored First Year Camaro with RS Option I notice no mention of "original engine" or "numbers matching" in the description, either, which are always BIG sale points worth thousands. This is a modified car, and I still have yet to hear of an L79 coming in any 1G Camaro from the factory.
  21. Looks like you had a GM A kinda day!
  22. First I've ever heard of L79 in any Camaro.
  23. Then they're wrong. As the late great Elmer Keith would say, "Hell, I Was There!" Speaking of accuracy, you're obviously into it if you're going to the trouble of altering the chassis. Are you planning to do anything about Revell's horrendous representation of the '69 RS front end? Revell would have you believe the hidden headlight doors sit 4-6" deep into the grille. They do no such thing. I have an actual '69 RS grille hanging in my garage and those doors are no more than 2" deep. The actual grille portion is darn near flush with the front-end sheetmetal, or not more than 1" recessed. Here's a pic of a real one to give you some idea what I'm talking about. Compare this with what the kit gives you to work with. I tried to address this with my own latest Revell Camaro build. I made progress, but only got the doors about halfway out to where they need to be. Rushed to finish the thing for a BOYD build deadline, I never went back and had a second go at it--perhaps I should. I did take some in-progress pics of how I removed the doors from the grille that show what I was trying to do. Be happy to post them here if you wan't but I don't want to hijack your build thread.
  24. Ya gotta love it when a plan comes together! Thanks!
  25. Darn. I hoped I was being subtle. Will follow your '68 Coronet build. I have the Modelhaus repro and have been looking for build ideas. Having a hard time deciding on a color.
