  1. Score! If it's savable, the Rebel Machine alone is worth two or three times that.
  2. I think that's very similar to the one where I'm running and then floating as long as I don't put my feet down. I bet the feeling is similar, anyway.
  3. Agree completely. (Now watch them come and post stuff that gets THIS thread locked. DOH!)
  4. I thought I did a thread on it here. I shot the pics--maybe I haven't written it up yet. Oh well. Just standard Snake-Fu. Sand tire treads. Paint wheels. White-stem the lights. Black-wash the little grilles in the front, which really helped. This was the first or second model I used the Deco-Color Premium silver marker (similar to Molotow, but dries faster, dries harder, and costs 1/4 as much) on. Silver sharpie doesn't show up well enough on silver paint. You can see the Deco-Color on the door handles and rocker panel trim strips. I'm pretty pleased with how it works.
  5. Uh, we are still talking about recurring dreams here, not real life, right?
  6. Will 2020 be the year you actually finish a model?
  7. Looks like every Monday night on my TV.
  8. Very thorough review, thanks! Here's my own $10 Welly, with Snake-Fu. My measurement came out same as yours--just over 1/22. I have a theory why so many of them are oversize. When I was working on it, I had the Revell '63 Vette on the bench at the same time. They were pretty much the same size, and if you didn't know the 356 was a smaller car, they'd look normal side by side. Maybe someone at Welly et al decided that at true 1/24, it would look "too small" on the shelf--or maybe it would look too small to the customer in the store. Just a theory, y'unnerstand.
  9. Got the blue metalflake paint polished out on the EMPI Imp that I'm trying to get finished for the BOYD build. Been dreading/dodging/ducking the task for a month, so I'm glad that's behind me, and it only took an hour or a little more. Next big job on this build will be to either fix the glue-bombed, parts-missing VW engine the project came with, or find and build something else suitable. Not looking forward to that either, but the deadline is just one week away. Oh well, when the engine is built, it SHOULD be all downhill from there. BTW, before painting the body, I painted the rear seats pearl white and masked them, and pre-foiled the hood EMPI emblem and masked that. After polishing, I got to unveil the emblem and seats, and they both came out pretty good.
  10. I don't think it will do it in seconds, but I suspect that it will do it. I recently built a Polar Lights '65 Dodge that was prepainted. I wanted to remove some of the sloppy tampo silver overages, and tried doing so very carefully with alcohol on a paper napkin. This didn't take the silver off, but it told me that if I worked it too hard, it WOULD take the red off, so I backed off and fixed the problem another way. I think an overnight soak in 91% would take the paint right off.
  11. Not a great dream, but it was recurring and therefore exactly on-topic, so....better!
  12. And thus we've answered the question, "How quickly can we get off the topic of recurring dreams?" Answer: So fast you wouldn't believe it.
  13. Especially with the tiny stock rear tires! So this issue won't include slicks or at least big tires, then?
  14. On another forum I frequent, someone started a thread on recurring dreams. It's been a lot of fun and I thought it might be here, too. Two common ones seem to involve school, and flying. I have both of those. I used to have a frequent one where I'm in school and I realize next week is the final, the drop date is long past, and I haven't done a bit of the reading or been to class in weeks. (The class is usually some kind of math or literature or language). Every college graduate I've ever asked about it has had this dream or something like it at least once, usually more than once. My flying dreams aren't really flying, but I've often dreamed I'm running down the street and discover that if I don't put my feet down, I just stay in the air, floating forward at the same speed. It's kind of like pedaling a bike and then coasting. It feels wonderful! I've often had one where I'm carrying a gun somewhere you're not supposed to (like in NYC or New Jersey), and I don't have a CCW permit. For some reason the cops seal the place off and start shaking everyone down. They're not looking specifically for me, but if I'm caught with the gun, I'm gonna be in BIG trouble. I'm trying to find somewhere to ditch the thing, hopefully somewhere I can retrieve it later but that's definitely a secondary concern. I feel like I'm in a bad Harrison Ford or Kevin Costner movie. So what are your recurring dreams?
  15. Absolutely not. If anything, most of us should have MORE modeling time in the next week.
  16. I just got the most recent reissue ('90s?) of that kit in a trade with ewetwo a couple weeks ago. Looking forward to getting into it!
  17. Just a reminder: Deadline for Round 6 is one week from today. You've got seven days to GITTER DONE!
  18. Good concise description.
  19. Too bad you're not within driving distance. I picked up 2 bottles at Walmart a couple weeks ago, enough for my modeling needs for at least a year. Would be glad to give you one.
  20. DANGER, WILL ROBINSON!
  21. My list of common "Day 2" mods, as observed back in the day, would include: Aftermarket wheels/tires, larger tires on rear Raised rear suspension by air shocks or extended spring shackes or both Traction bars Headers Custom exhaust--glass packs, "Cherry Bombs," maybe with side exit, up to Corvette side pipes; chrome exhaust tips Aftermarket shifter (usually Hurst) Aftermarket steering wheel (wood and metalflake rims were popular) Tachometer on steering column or dashboard, 3-gauge bolt-on instrument panel under dash Low restriction or removed air cleaner Aftermarket carb and/or intake manifold (including 2x4 and 3x2 conversions) Lightweight flex fan Ignition upgrades including plug wires Bolt-on or bond-on hood scoops/bulges; full fiberglass hood, sometimes left black Bolt-on rear window louvers Hood pins Spoilers and wings Paint stripes, pinstripes, other graphics such as lace Blacked out grille, other blacked out trim such as rear panels or rocker panels Speed equipment decals on rear side windows (and elsewhere) Camshaft swap (wouldn't show on a model car, of course) Aftermarket stereo/sound system and speakers on package trays and/or door panels Fog or driving lights in grille or on/under front bumper Not every "Day 2" car had ALL this stuff, of course. Any that did would look ridiculous (or getting close). But several of these mods on a car weren't uncommon at all. And all mods wouldn't be accomplished by "Day 2," or even Week 2 or Month 2. But I'd say that AT LEAST half the 1 to 2 year old musclecars I ever saw had at least a few of these. (Tires/wheels and raised rear suspension were probably the most common.) Also, some popular models had readily available bolt-on mods. For example, there were several bolt-on taillight replacement units for '64-'66 Mustangs. There was a lot of bolt-on stuff for VW Beetles, too. Here's a '66 Mustang I shot last year at a local car show that had a very authentic late '60s/early '70s Day 2 vibe. He's got more stuff on it than I personally would, but I can assure you such beasts roamed the streets in those days (and apparently this one still does). (The Comet in the background has a pretty good vibe going, too.)
  22. Chemtrails? SOME people just won't be happy until they get this thread locked down, too. Please, no.
  23. Dunno about acetone, but MEK-based cements won't work. You need something with methylene chloride.
  24. It was in many, and probably in all the "real" Indy-event cars, but many of the 3600-some replicas were built with 350s. You could order it either way.
  25. Snake45

    32 Ford Vicky

Absolutely beautiful concept and stunning execution! Not crazy about the color but I love everything else about this model. VERY well done and model on!
