Very cool! I've thought of doing something similar on clear decal stock to make "lace" panels. I think they'd look better than using full-scale lace, even the smallest size available. I've never seen any that didn't look FAR too large.

Painting over Polar Lights Pre-Painted body

That's a worse reaming than I just took on Amazon toilet paper! -
Some years ago I met a guy who'd worked at Hostess making Twinkies. I asked him how they handled the "shrinkage" (employee pilferage) problem. I'll never forget his answer: "They had a very strict policy: Eat all the Twinkies you want, any time you want. They found that almost everyone, by about lunchtime of their second day, had eaten all the Twinkies they ever wanted to eat for the rest of their lives."

Testors metalflake spray bombs
Snake45 replied to Roadrunner's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Quite a few of the Testor lacquers fill some of the long-lost AMT and Pactra lacquer slots pretty nicely. Some of them even SMELL like some of the old AMT paints. -

If you know anything about the machinery depicted, that is a VERY odd scene being depicted there. -

Hey, I got two kids who each have a 2YO grandkid. You never know who's gonna need what. Or maybe I could swap one bottle for toilet paper..... -
Celebrities we’ve lost in the last 6 months
Snake45 replied to slusher's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Of all the celebrity deaths of my lifetime, I've been hardest hit by Jimi Hendrix, Jungle Jim Liberman, Steve McQueen, Sam Kinison, and Warren Zevon. Clint Eastwood's gonna hit me hard, too, when that happens, as it inevitably will. As Warren Zevon sang, "LIfe'll Kill Ya." -

Oh yah, great one! I built that as a teenager and still have most, maybe even all, of the pieces of it! It's a stripped-down version of the notorious "Phantom Mustang" kit without the stand, the electric motors, and all the internal guts parts. But if you built it carefully, you could still crank the landing gear up and down and I think you could drop the bombs with buttons. It's 1/32 scale. Dunno if I still have the box or not, but pretty sure I still have the instructions and the leftover decals. -

I bought 2 bottles at Walmart about 3 weeks ago, when they still had plenty, though were asking people to buy no more than 2. The next week, The Lovely Mrs. Snake was scheduled for a week of jury duty, and there was NO hand sanitizer or clean-wipes of any kind available anywhere. I was planning to home-make some wipes by putting the IPA on some paper towels and put them in a sealable plastic bag for her to take with her. Fortunately they cancelled her jury duty ("You will be rescheduled at a later date.") I'm holding onto to the stuff for future possible NEED use, not using it to strip paint at the moment. That good with you? -
Very cool, you did great! Well done and model on!

Okay, you kids of the '60s, help me out remembering some cereal premiums here. In 1966, one cereal had about a 1/64 scale plastic Mustang in the box. There were convertibles, hardtops, and fastbacks, and they came in red, light yellow, and light blue, thus a "complete collection" was 9 cars. I tried to get them all but don't think I ever did. I remember being SO disappointed to get YET ANOTHER light blue convertible. The next year the premium was a 1967 Cougar. What cereal was this? Somewhere in the 1963-65 frame, one cereal would have a comic book on the back of the box. It wasn't an actual comic book but kinda like one. You had to pull off a cardboard tab and then the book would open. They changed the book often but every now and then I'd get one I'd seen before. What was the cereal and what were the books about? Also somewhere in the 1963-65 frame, one cereal offered WWII airplanes. These weren't on or in the box; you had to mail in a quarter or something for a pair of two of them. There were either three or four different sets and I think I had most if not all of them. The airplanes were printed on heavy card stock and you had to cut them out and put them together and you put a penny or a couple pennies or a nickel in the nose for weight and they'd actually fly, kind of. I'm trying to remember the airplanes. I'm pretty sure there was a Japanese Zero and a German FW 190 and there was something with red Russian stars on it, that might have been a P-39. I think there was a Spitfire and a P-40 too. I'd LOVE to see these again, and I can't find them anywhere, even a picture. I remember my Dad saying he had these in WWII. I've seen the WWII ones, you can readily buy repros of those. They were different. The WWII ones were smaller, about 1/72 scale, and not as colorful. The '60s ones were bigger, about 1/48 scale, and printed in full color. Anybody remember these? What cereal offered them? I'm thinking it was General MIlls cereals for some reason. Somebody, somewhere has to remember this stuff!

Now that you mention it, I do recall that one cereal would do that when I was a kid. And I think it was Capn Crunch!

A while back I was buying a box of those a week for work snacks. I think I was getting Walmart generic ones, though...I think they were only 99c a box.

Bought a cleanly built and complete original annual AMT '67 Comet Cyclone off eBay. Only paid a couple dollars more than current kit retail. It was the opening bid and I was the only bid. I already have one, but I needed the hood. The one I have stripped to bare plastic so cleanly I'm just gonna polish up that beautiful white 1967 plastic on it. But its hood has the hole cut in it, which of course I can't fix and still polish everything out. Couple weeks ago I missed out on an original hood from an unbuilt kit someone was parting out. But it went for $20, more than half what I paid for this whole car, so I got the better deal. So what I'll do is fix the other hood, and then rebuild this one and paint it burgundy and use the fixed hood on it. Always wanted one in burgundy--I just think it's THE color on '67 Comets for some reason.

That's pretty! I'd love to polish that lovely blue plastic.

Used to love Alpha Bits. Hadn't had 'em in decades. Couple years ago, got a hunger to taste 'em again. Walmart doesn't carry them so I had to drive across town to find a box. What a disappointment! They now taste like cardboard. Never again. I've always liked Cherios. They haven't changed, good as ever. Couple years ago I went on a Cherios jag and would eat a bowl of them dry, like popcorn, as a snack while watching TV at night. Lucky Charms. The cheap Walmart ripoff, Marshmallo Mateys, are almost as good at half the price. When I was a kid, when I'd visit my grandparents, they'd get me those packs of 10 or 12 different cereals. This was a treat 'cause I got to try new ones. I remember Corn Pops was one of them, only time I ever got those. At home, we only ever had Rice Krispies and Kellogs Corn Flakes.

Decided on an engine for the EMPI Imp, and started on it. (I had several options, none of which particularly appealed to me.) Decided to go with the Corvair from AMT Parts Pack--an old Blueprinter Exclusive issue molded in a dark metallic gray. I have an all-chrome one, too, but thought that would be too "blingy." This one should look nice with some Silver Sharpie and Molotow highlights.

With the delightful texture of cardboard, or styrofoam. Oh yeah!

Agree with you completely on this one. If you want to ruin anything, or at least make it worse, put coconut on it. If anyone here happens to like the disgusting stuff, you can have all mine. Ick!
