I'm a recovering alcoholic and would rather not read about beer, especially in threads that have nothing to do with beer. I have no problem with you starting as many beer threads as you want. Please stop it.

Can Diecast be "distressed" without cracking/breaking it?
Snake45 replied to PHPaul's topic in Diecast Corner
Looks more like contact-range 10-gauge shotgun blasts! Or maybe 20mm antitank gun. -
So EVERY thread is gonna be about beer now? Please, no.

That's what I thought, too. I especially like the "sit" you achieved. You're making me want to build one of these. Model on!

These all look fantastic! I started one of the new reissues when it became available a few months ago, but quickly lost interest and set it aside. You're making me want to dig it out and fire it up again, which is just about my highest compliment. Very well done, and model on!

The High Cost of the Hobby
Snake45 replied to Nitrobarry's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Last three days I've been building a Polar Lights '65 Coronet I bought at Walmart 10 or 15 years ago. Don't remember what I paid for it, but who cares--today it's absolutely FREE modeling! Just a tiny bit of paint and some of a Sharpie. -

Darn! I was gonna post that and forgot! -
Coronavirus (Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson tested positive)
Snake45 replied to NYLIBUD's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
I heard that the WHO test gave 30% false positive and 30% false negative results, which is why CDC rejected it. That level of inaccuracy makes the test actually worse than worthless. -
Any trouble with the AMT '66 Nova??
Snake45 replied to Southern Fried's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Cool! I have several copies in the Snakepit, but have become a big fan of the VeryDisco Channel's Street Outlaws, particularly JJ's Memphis crew and his two '67 Novas, ZipTie and Heifer. I've built one AMT Nova but would like to build several more. SPOILER ALERT: Results of last Monday's episode below: The high point of my week was last Monday night watching JJ absolutely blow that obnoxious Kye Kelly's doors off with Heifer. I thought SURE JJ was in for an asswhoopin' on that race, and would have bet a small amount of money on that outcome (which I would have been glad to lose). -
Managed to get the chassis/interior into the PL '65 Coronet first time with much less drama than I was actually expecting. If you do everything right, the chassis will cleverly lock right in place front and rear. I'm not sure I've got it all as "deep" in the body as it's supposed to go, but I got it to lock in and I'm not gonna mess with it at this point. All that remains is to add the rear axle, all four wheels/tires, and then black-wash the grille. I'm definitely not looking forward to the last, because the "open" areas are ridiculously shallow, and I doubt I'll be able to get it to look as good as I'd like. ETA: I was "feeling lucky, punk" (as Dirty Harry might put it), so I pulled it apart, figured out that the interference was between the firewall and the windshield base mounting tabs, and put it all back together again. MUCH better now! Put the rear axle in, and then put all four wheels on, so it's sitting on its wheels for the first time ever. All that's left to do is that grille work. YIKES: Just looked at the date. If I'd have realized this was Friday the 13th, I wouldn't have tried assembling this monster at all today! Will definitely put off that grille and the finishing touches till tomorrow.

Very VERY nice! Well done and model on!

FABULOUS job! You did an especially nice job on the AMX emblems on the roof, which are quite difficult to get right. Well done and model on!

I recently did a great trade with Patric (Oldcarfan27) and would trade with him again anytime. Thanks friend!

Different and therefore interesting! I especially like the colors. Been planning to use that exact color combo on something for a while now--nice to see it looks so good! Well done and model on!

Spent most of the day trying to wrestle a Polar Lights '65 Dodge to the ground. Finished assembly of the engine, and detail painted it. Then spent an inordinate amount of time trying to assemble the tight-tolerance Chinese puzzle that is the chassis. Wow, what a headache, and the instructions aren't a whole lot of help--they're not much more than exploded diagrams. I THINK I've figured out the final key to the puzzle, though. I set it aside and walked away from it for the day before I got really irked. Will have another go at it tomorrow. I will NEVER complain about the old one-piece, wire-axle chassis in vintage kits again!

Coronavirus (Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson tested positive)
Snake45 replied to NYLIBUD's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
True. Every minute you spend in the bathroom washing your hands is a minute you aren't interacting with other people, getting their germs, giving them yours, touching stuff that other people have touched, and so forth. There you go again, bringing sanity, reason and common sense to bear on the problem. What's wrong with you? -
48th Annual Bob Paeth Portland d Classic Model Car Contest is cancelled. The Club is working with the World of Speed for a future date. The Portland Roadster show is also cancelled but I have not heard any more than that on it

On the plus side, you just posted the longest thread title EVER! -
He's got one huge flaw in my book, though. He considers I Love Lucy the pinnacle of TV comedy. It might have been okay 60 years ago, but IMHO it hasn't held up well at all. I'll say this for Lucy, though: Long before TV, when Lucy was making movies, she was an absolute knockout.

He's "entertainment critic" now? He used to be their TV critic, and a pretty good one. I owe him one HUGE favor. His review of Firefly, which I either hadn't heard of or had decided to pass on, interested me in watching it, and it immediately became one the Favorite Things in my Life. Still is, for that matter.

One that I always thought raised the bar was Phil "Tidewater Trucker" Jensen's mostly scratchbuilt Ohio George's Malco Gasser Mustang (before the MPC kit appeared), which was covered in a VERY detailed article in CAR MODEL magazine back in the day. I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to purchase this very model on eBay about a year ago, in need of some repair and restoration. I'm hoping to get to it sometime soon; I'm very proud and humbled to be its current custodian.

It came out great! I was researching Testor metal kits not long ago and discovered that there are quite a few--and they came from several different original sources. I forget who made your Mustang. I have their '68 Camaro and it was made by Welly. It's quite nice and I like it a lot.

Looks great! Well done and model on!
