Very nice! Don't think I've ever noticed all that duck tape before.

Blown Ford 427 FE Parts Project
Snake45 replied to STYRENE-SURFER's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
The Ford FE is a front-sump engine (in normal use, anyway). SOHC block is based on 427 side-oiler block, near as I can figure. I tried to find some pics of blown SOHCs just for grins. Found one in Prudhomme's dragster where it looks like the pan is fairly shallow, and flat-ish. It might have used a dry sump system. Another one you could look for pics of would be Ohio George Montgomery's engine in the Willys. Also found this interesting looking oil pan. http://www.cobranda.com/bigblcooilpa.html -

Buick Riviera '66 (resto of an AMT kit w/ scratch-built headlights)
Snake45 replied to Tommy124's topic in Model Cars
Nice resurrection! The goofy headlights don't add anything, IMHO, but perhaps you had to live with those as lowrider residue you couldn't pry loose. Otherwise, well done and model on! -
'Mad Mike' Hughes killed in homemade rocket crash

We know for a fact that the Earth isn't flat, because if it were, cats would have pushed everything over the edge by now. -
Sweet score! Looks like a pristine version of the one I found filthy, broken, and scuffed in a flea market a couple years ago, and successfully rescued.

Interesting idea, which, if it works, I might totally steal from you.

There's a "What Did You Get Today" thread in the diecast section, might be one in the Truck section, too. -
Blown Ford 427 FE Parts Project
Snake45 replied to STYRENE-SURFER's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
That's a SBC so might not be relevant for a FE Ford. The one in the Garlits dragster in kind of simple/plain. This is an early Hemi so here again, not sure how relevant it would be for your intentions. https://public.fotki.com/drasticplasticsmcc/mkiba-build-under-c/amt-instructions/straightline-competition/amt-top-fuel-hemi-s/8.html#media You might want to try google-imaging pics of Pete Robinson's or Prudhomme's Shelby Super Snake dragsters, both of which had blown SOHCs. Or maybe Dyno Don's Eliminator Cyclones and Cougars. Maybe you can get a glimpse of some oil pans there. -
The wheels alone make it look 100% better. If you can figure out how to drop the front end a little bit, it would look another 100% better. I know this is difficult, if not downright impossible, on some diecasts, and I'm guilty of leaving most of them alone myself. I can't see what you did with the taillights, but I'll tell you how to improve them even more. Take the body off and hit the ends of the plastic stems where the lights are mounted to the body with WHITE paint. Avoid the temptation to use silver or Molotow or foil or anything else fancy. White works best, trust me. This makes the black spots in the middle of lights disappear, or nearly so. Works on headlights, taillights, turn signals (hint, hint). WELL worth the disassembly/reassembly time. Nice work. Green Belt in Snake-Fu awarded. Model on!

Oh I knew that. No problem! I knew you would be!

Sorry my 30 second lesson exceeded your attention span. Your sore back is your punishment for sleeping in class. -
That was my impression, too. I might try to set mine up with a second body, something like a Fiat or a '32 Ford or something. Yours looks pretty good, considering the limitations of the kit. Model on!

Looks great! Your foilwork on the hood vents is particularly impressive--that's a tough area to do. You're tempting me to paint my own resto this color. Well done and model on!

Looks good for a flea market rescue. Model on!

Just found this post after seeing the revised interior in the other thread. Now, aren't you glad you went ahead and did this? You KNOW that every time you looked in there for the rest of your life and saw that solid steering wheel, it would haunt you! You're welcome!

You might want to post this Q up in the How To Use This Board section. That's where most Admin type problems seem to get the fastest response.

What Did You Get Today? (Not Model Related)

Yesterday I got the factory service manuals in the mail. These should be of great help. Sometime soon I need to dig all these CO2 guns out, test them to see what each needs, and then get to work fixing them. Here's some of my old Crosman CO2 guns. -
Yes, I reviewed and Snake-Fu'ed the Welly '68 4-4-2. Here's the writeup, complete with comments and photo comparo with size of the 1/25 AMT '69. The Welly '68 4-4-2, '71 Chevelle convertible, '69 GTO Judge, and '70 GSX are all about the same scale--just under 1/26--and display well together, and look less out of place on a 1/25 shelf than the Monogram 1/24 '70 Chevelle, '69 GTO Judge, and '70 GTX. The same is true of their '65 GTO, which is actually better looking than the old AMT '65 GTO. I recommend all these highly. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/137160-welly-68-4-4-2/

Garlits' blower belt is on the inside of the idler pulley, and yours is on the outside. I see maybe why you did it that way--interference with the fuel pump?

Magnificant! And it would look even more real if you drill out the header tubes a bit thinner.
