  1. Maybe they don't show well in the pics but both of mine have the "forked spoke" Ford Styled Steel Wheels of the day, and pretty accurate ones, too. As I said, I don't remember if the low areas were originally painted black on my Welly but I did paint the low areas Testor Steel. I've always thought of those wheels as "reverse Cragars." They look like Cragars with the spokes hollow and the open areas solid.
  2. Yah, I kinda dug it too. Thanks for the kind words!
  3. Brewster had all kinds of problems. Conventional wisdom is that the Corsairs they built were the worst; I don't think any saw combat service with the US and most of them went either to Britain or stateside training units, but I've also read that this is largely a myth, every single one of them passed government acceptance inspection same as Voughts and Goodyears, so should have been okay. I don't think any Brewster-built Corsairs are flying today, might not even be any static airframes left in museums. ETA: According to Warbird Registry, there's one Brewster F3A Corsair left, "under restoration" by Ezell Avaition. http://www.warbirdregistry.org/corsairregistry/f3a-04634.html ETA2: It's been restored and flown! http://warbirdsnews.com/warbird-restorations/brewster-f3a-corsair-takes-to-the-skies-in-breckenridge-texas.html
  4. I painted mine (low parts) with Testor Steel to match the real ones. I don't remember if they were originally black in there like Gramps. Pretty sure on the Maisto they were originally all chrome.
  5. Pretty cool, and something different! Model on!
  6. The link's a clickbait ad site. I've clicked on a few of those over the years and found much inaccurate information in them. Seldom are they worth the trouble to click through.
  7. That came out pretty cool! Model on!
  8. I wonder if a '66 Wildcat hood could be adapted to work? Or maybe a mash-up between a '64 Impala and '66 Wildcat hoods? Might not be right, but might be better than no hood at all.
  9. Very cool! Took me a while to scroll down to anything I had, or once had, but then I recognized quite a few.
  10. I recently picked up a Welly ’67 Mustang GT for $10 at Rite Aid to go with the Maisto one I paid $15 for at the gas station (the prime supplier for my budding diecast collection) about a decade ago. The dark red one with white stripes is the Maisto; the bright red one with black stripes is the Welly. We might as well start with the color. Neither seems to be a good match for ’67 Ford Candyapple Red, the only factory red available on Mustangs. The Welly is a bit too bright, being probably closer to the brilliant red-orange of Chevy Engine Red. The Maisto is too dark, but not dark enough to be considered Vintage Burgundy. It’s very close to Testor #4 Dark Red, which I actually used to do some touchup on it a while back. Both are 1/24, and overall shape is very good on both. Some body parts of the Maisto are plastic, such as the roof vents and rear fender caps; the Welly body is all metal and one piece. Detailing is just a little better all around on the Welly. Both responded well to simple 1st degree Snake-Fu on wheels, grilles, headlight stems, and so forth. Overall, I’d say the Welly is the better of the two, but it’s not a HUGE difference. If I’d owned the Welly first and then saw the Maisto, I wouldn’t have bought the Maisto. But I’m fine with both; I’ll probably give the Maisto to one of my grandsons when they get old enough to have some level of appreciation for the thing. Thanks for looking, and as always, comments welcome. Thanks for looking and as always, comments welcome.
  11. Thanks, Cobraman! Good to see your interests branching out a bit this year!
  12. Finally scored an AMT '71 Chevelle on eBay, one that's eluded me for years! Body's painted but the kit looks complete and a lot of the parts including the bumpers are still on the trees! Had to go to my daughter's today and was gonna be on the road at closing time so before I left I submitted a fat but reasonable bid and it held up by just a couple of bucks. Did the same thing on a nice original '66 Fairlane and that one blew by me--if I'd been here I might have been able to snipe it off, but maybe not, who knows. Oh well, I'm pretty well on my way of having one of every Chevelle AMT made between 1964 and 1972 (if you count wagons and Caminos). Merry Christmas!
  13. You could actually do both--build a vintage drag car with an updated chassis and interior and still have the body in the polished green, maybe with decals on it.
  14. Many of them have been guest hosts. IIRC Adam Sandler did the last show of last season and it was by far the best episode of the year. I'd like to see more of Chris Rock, too.
  15. I wouldn't worry about it. I don't think the yellow will "bleed through" (that's not what's actually happening) your Silver Jade. Prime it with whatever gray you like, or black, and shoot away.
  16. IIRC, it started somewhat mysteriously. BTD wished happy 100th birthday to The Boss, and no one knew quite what to make of it. I know I didn't.
  17. I know exactly what I'd do. I'd polish out that lovely green, then detail it with BMF and/or Silver Sharpie and put it on the shelf.
  18. Different and therefore interesting, and your workmanship and finish are exceptional! Well done and model on!
  19. Sweet! I have a vague recollection of seeing a '67 GTX convertible diecast at Walmart about a decade ago and passed on it for some reason. Maybe I was still bigoted against convertibles at that time, I dunno. It might have been a Johnny Lightning.
  20. Some VERY nice stuff there. I especially like the '66 Impala. Looks like you had a great year! Model on!
  21. Last night on eBay I scored a complete, very restorable/rebuildable '69 El Camino. Also got a JoHan promo Maverick body, glass, and front bumper (and taillights) for a very reasonable price. Needs the rear bumper but I'm keeping my eyes open. Eventually I might find a really messed up glue bomb or promo cheap that I can pirate the chassis and interior from, or maybe steal them from a more common Comet kit. Where there's a will, there's a way!
  22. Aw, c'mon. "Worst of..." threads are at least as much fun as "Best of..." threads. Everyone has a horror story to share!
  23. Yeah, they do, but otherwise that's a pretty sweet cheap diecast. Someday I might swap out the wheels and tires for those from an AMT '69 kit.
  24. Thanks! The 404 error wouldn't let me post the paragraph where I told about swapping the kit wheels for '69 Camaro snapper Rallys.
