"My Year In Review" Threads
Snake45 replied to Snake45's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Oh, but I DID finish quite a few things. Some of which I haven't posted yet. I should be finishing a few more before the end of the year, because I always take the last week off and do a lot of modeling. Come to think of it, I've got at least three that I finished the last week of LAST year and never got around to posting, waiting for all the MYIR threads to die.... -
Looks like the time of year I hate is here, where everyone fills up the Under Glass section with "My Year In Review" threads where they show again everything they've already showed. What I dislike about this is that it pushes interesting NEW builds off the front page far too quickly and good new work goes unseen. I won't be posting a "My Year In Review" thread, and I won't be clicking on yours. I already saw and commented on anything of yours I liked. Am I alone in this? Or maybe there could be just ONE "Post Your 2017 Year In Review Builds Here" thread, and everyone could participate, and leave the rest of the front page of Under Glass alone?

Just got this from PhotoBucket; all I can say is (censored)

I've started getting three or four emails a day from them again, trying to sell me junk. I'm waiting for an email from them saying they've decided to allow third-party hosting again for some reasonable fee, like $29.95 per year. Until I get that, they're dead to me. -
AMT 57 Chevy Pepper Shaker - Newest reissue
Snake45 replied to pharoah's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Common solid vinyl AMT slicks of the day, with two grooves cut in each to make them street "cheaters." -
Very nice work indeed. Great color and finish. Surprised to read you had so much trouble with it. I built the GTX many years ago and remember it as one of the smoothest, most trouble-free builds I've ever done, along with the Superbird.

Ain't that the truth! Building models teaches you how to do things, and, even more importantly, how to think a project through, beginning to end, to end up with the result you want to achieve. -
Bought this sad '69 500 (DOH, no doubt) cheap at the last local toy fair. It's complete and I think under the dust, the paint is in fairly decent shape. I think I'll clean it up, Silver Sharpie the trim, change the wheels/tires, and set it up as a late-'70s driver. Later on down the road I might strip the paint, do proper bodywork and repaint it. But, really, with better '69 Charger kits now available, why bother?

You'd be better off starting with the Revell '57 Chev Bel Air sedan. -

That car was a post sedan IIRC, not a hardtop. -
What would YOU like to see as a model

Didn't Monogram kit that? I think I even have one somewhere in the pile. -

Thanks for the review. You just saved me a few bucks. Not enough "new" here to justify buying another one. -
AMT didn't do a '66 Oldsmobile. But the Skylark and Impala mod stockers are '66s.

I use Wright's Silver Cream, available at Walmart. Others use various plastic polishes, such as Novus.

1/25 AMT '65 Lincoln Continental Customizing Kit
Snake45 replied to Casey's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Yup. I can think of at least three kits I've bought yet another one of (even though I already had one or more) just because of the retro box art (and maybe decals or a few other new goodies inside). -
Very nice! I've wanted to do a '56 Ford gasser for decades. You are inspiring me to get on with it!

Different and therefore interesting!

I never had a Sting Ray as a kid. So I bought a vintage original one at a yard sale in the late '80s. It's now worth about 10 times what I paid for it. -

I built one of these '69 Chevelles in 1969, and cleaned it up and restored it (though didn't repaint or rebuild it) a few years ago. The other one I started in the early '90s, and finally finished it up about the same time I restored the first one, a couple years back. I call this a "then and now" build set. -

That thing is just begging for an Allison under that enormous hood. Even if Allison was a GM-built product! -

I figger most of us here speak fluent sarcasm. At least everyone worth knowing does. -
Not into that car at all, but that's a lovely score. Very rebuildable and better yet looks to be fairly complete. Congratulations!

Yup. I'm sure it's only you. -
Quoted for truth. You just saved me some typing. (This doesn't happen often. Savor the moment.)
