  1. Very nice indeed! You really nailed this one.
  2. I still think the wheels in the original picture are the rare Winfields, not the American Lemans, but apparently I'm in the minority on that.
  3. Very cool! What's the thing just forward of the front turret? It looks like a wall socket bezel.
  4. The trick to dealing with those is to paint the end of the stem white--not silver, white. Then stem then fiber-optics it and virtually disappears. I routinely have to do with diecasts.
  5. Is that what Chevy Chase drove in Nat Lamp Vacation?
  6. There ya go. Anything but model cars, or the particular model being discussed by everyone else in a given thread.
  7. Never had a cat. But if I had a dollar for every post I've read in Model Airplane World that went "HELP! My cat ate my canopy [or some other vital, impossible to fabricate part]! Does anyone have a spare?", I could probably buy a reasonably solid, running 1:1 '69 Camaro.
  8. Wow. I'm still trying to figure out what you did there. Whatever it was, it's different!
  9. Yes. but most people your age are more into the net and their phones than building models. Your generation doesn't buy a lot of kits. We Auld Pharts, on the other hand, have nostalgia, skill, and the money to spend on them. It's the same in Model Airplane World, where World War II is still by far the most popular subject matter. These are the airplanes we kids fell in love with in the '50s and '60s, and we still want to build them.
  10. Whatever came in the kit--Hemi, I'm pretty sure. If/when I clean and refurb it, The outrageous gigonda slicks will go and be replaced by something more plausibly sized. Sadly, the stock wheel covers are long, long gone. The paint's not in good enough shape for a full resto, and I don't want to strip it, being a relic of my childhood. I'll probably go for a late '70s daily driver or street fighter vibe. Just since we're talking Chargers, last week at the toy show I picked up cheap a built '69 (painted dark blue) I think is probably an MPC DOH. It has no emblems, hood pins on the trunk lid, and, to my surprise, no vents in the cowl! What's up with that? Of course it has the Charger 500 roof treatment. It should also be a fun quick-refurb project. And what's the deal with '69 Charger hoods? Are there two different types, one with "crisp" recesses (like this '68) and one with "soft" recesses? I think the AMT Charger 500 kit has the sharp recesses, and all the DOH kits including the new one have the soft recesses.
  11. Near as I can tell, the real "hero car" doesn't have the Impala emblem on the right quarter. http://driving.ca/chevrolet/impala/auto-news/news/supernatural-impala-is-a-big-block-powered-demon-hunter
  12. It's 1/25 and not based on the same body as the 1/24. It's better. Many modelers (myself included) consider it to be the most accurately shaped 1/24/1/25 '70 Chevelle ever.
  13. Tom, our generation sings it: "Hey! You! Get offa my lawn. Hey ! You! Get offa my lawn!..."
  14. I just checked my mint '66 kit. The dual carb setup survived; the scoops, sadly, did not.
  15. Probably anyplace that sells Revell 1966 Impala kits.
  16. Here's a survivor, the MPC '68 I built in 1968. It's long overdue for a cleanup and resto.
  17. Deal. I'll take your snow, and you can have all my hurricanes.
  18. Pulled mine out and it only has it on the right side. It's just tampo. If you don't want it, it will come off with a little rubbing alcohol or nail polish remover or polish.
  19. To repeat: The original annual MPC '66 Corvette kit had this hood. The Monogram '65 Corvette that has the red built model as box art has it, though it's 1/24 and you'll probably have trouble matching up the hood bulge with the "stinger" that carries over onto the body, but if you want to build it hood-up that might not be a problem for you. Also, Greg, a member here, might have the hood you need in resin. See this thread:
  20. Very nice indeed! Model on!
  21. Yup, that's a '65-'66 big block hood, and it is indeed found in SOME issues of the 1/24 Monogram '65 Vette kit (and possibly the '66 Penske racer, I don't remember). But this hood doesn't really fit if you're looking to put it on an AMT or MPC or Revell 1/25 kit. This hood was found in the original annual MPC '66 Vette, which Modelhaus once reproed. Others have resin "'65-'66 big block hoods" in their lines, but many/most I've seen have been copies of the hood from the AMT '66 roadster kit, which is actually a custom hood along the same general idea, but is NOT an accurate representation of the actual '65-'66 Chevrolet Vette big block hood. (Interestingly, the AMT '66 Vette Coupe kit had a 427 engine but not the big block hood, while the '66 roadster kit, with the humped custom hood, had only a small block engine.)
  22. I read a lot of DC comics in the 1963-65 timeframe and I don't remember ever seeing any of these. Maybe I just wasn't into model cars yet and simply paid them no attention. I DO, however, remember the giant, full-page Revell ads in Boys Life, the Boy Scout magazine. These looked something like a newspaper, and had "news" of the latest 1/72 "Warbird" airplane releases (I remember when the Memphis Belle B-17 and the Blue Streak B-24 came out), as well as the latest wacky Ed Roth creation.
  23. '65 Buick Skylark GS and '65 Olds 4-4-2. And, going back to the sports cars, I"m not really much of a sports car guy, but I'd probably buy and build models of the '60s Triumph Spitfire and IV, and the MGB. And why do we have no common, popularly priced kit of the Aston Martin DB.5?
  24. And then there's noticeable color shift/fade in the old, old picture. I couldn't state with any degree of confidence whatsoever exactly WHAT color this car actually was back in the day, beyond something in the orange/coral/pinkish/yellowish family. (I.e., it's not a blue or a green far as I can tell.)
