  1. Pontiac Carousel Red is actually exactly the same color as Chevy Hugger Orange. I'm not seeing that much orange in the pics, although no two of them really look alike. Chevy Engine Red is a bright, bright red-orange. But if you just want a nice bright red, hard to beat good old Testor #3 Red which is the same (AFAIK) as Model Master Guards Red.
  2. I use Walmart non-acetone nail polish remover to take tampo off of diecast paint, but when I got some on a window, I had to polish the window out. I'd TRY rubbing alcohol first, which will either take it off or have no effect at all. Then I'd just polish it off with Wright's Silver Cream silver polish.
  3. Thanks for the tip. I'll check out the local before I spring for shipping.
  4. That's not a bad looking diecast. Thanks for sharing!
  5. Lemme see, I got it in my head I wanted the cut-down wraparound custom windshield for an AMT Corvette. Turns out that part came only in the '65 roadsters. I already had one or two very restorable '65 roadsters, but bought a more complete one with the windshield for @‌ $50. And then I bought another one for almost that much. So now I have two of those windshields, at least one of which I will actually use in a build. But I've also got enough other parts from the scrounging to build at least three cars, maybe four, with at least two of them being nice factory stocks. So it's hard to say what I'll have in any ONE of them. But even at $50, I look at it as, that's only twice what a common current kit costs (or 3x, figuring HL coupon prices), and I have AT LEAST twice as much fun restoring a rare old kit as building a brand new one, so it's actually a bargain.
  6. For what it's worth for both of you, here's the tutorial. No pics anymore, but maybe you can learn something from the words.
  7. Since first seeing this topic this morning, I've been trying to figure out. I really can't say. I know I have several AMT Corvettes on the bench that I've paid $50 or more for in glue bomb form, but can't say what's the most I've ever spent on a single build. Whatever the number is, it would pale in comparison to the value of the time I spend on each one, even at current Minimum Wage.
  8. I'm thankful that some people did. If everyone who bought a model car built it, there wouldn't BE any wonderful old unbuilt kits today at ANY price.
  9. I have a great tutorial on easy fixes to correct and upgrade this body. Too bad the recent photobuket phiasco wiped out all the pictures or I'd post you a link to it. At any rate, this is a pretty fun kit to build. Enjoy it!
  10. I have a few rare old kits that I enjoy more just the way they are than I ever could building them. I also have a few others that I WILL build, The Good Lord willing and the creek don't rise.... Generally, though, for rare old stuff, I'd rather restore a glue bomb, for a number of reasons, not all of them economic....
  11. Yes, you can test that on plastic spoons--just as you can test any other combination you can dream up. Some of them will work. Some of them won't.
  12. I like the '67 because the front end looks almost exactly like the back end of the '66, with headlights added. I always thought it looked like something Batman might drive if he were an insurance salesman or accountant instead of a superhero crimefighter.
  13. I've never heard that you can't. But it's easy to test whatever combination you have in mind.
  14. I saw these announced some time back but hadn't seen one yet. 1/24? I'm interested. Normally I don't care for 4-doors but my folks had a dark green '68--my alltime favorite car of theirs. This is about as close as I'll ever get to that. Thanks for sharing it!

    Chevelles

Very nice lineup indeed! I've been wanting to do this myself for sometime. Good to see someone actually do it! (I have '67, '69, '70, and '72 done.)
  16. Supposedly, Baldwin-Motion didn't use any COPOs, all theirs were conversions of 396 cars. I said supposedly. I don't know whether to believe it or not. Hard to believe that they wouldn't have taken advantage of the COPO program to get 427 Camaros and save themselves some time, money, and work.
  17. Go buy some, give it a try, and tell us how it works!
  18. Wow, that looks FABULOUS! You really captured the spirit and the feel of the times! Well done and model on!
  19. Beautiful! Especially the color. I wish I'd bought a few cans of that when it was still available.

For the full effect, you have to imagine, say, Dana Carvey or Will Ferrell saying it with a pretentious European accent.
  21. Looks like you're off to a great start! I'll be keeping an eye on this.
  22. Can't tell for sure, but the original instructions seem to show bigger tires (and inner rims) than the typical Firestone Supremes of the day. http://public.fotki.com/drasticplasticsmcc/mkiba-build-under-c/amt-instructions/show-rods/amt-the-fireball-50/9111706.html#media
  23. Nice, clean build. You're making me want to build another one!
  24. Me neither. Love the '66 sand '67s, and the '65s are kinda cool, but other full-size Pontiacs just don't do a thing for me.
