  1. That was worth at least a dime. Sameness does get pretty boring with both monotonously bland bodywork and monochromatic color options available for eggs on wheels. Interestingly, in my area, parentally-subsidized playcationers favor cars from the '40s - ''70s. Cars from the early '60s through the mid '70s are the most popular with the Quaids and Haydens. I haven't seen so many Corvairs, Darts, El Caminos and other old fart faves around here since they were sold as new.
  2. Too bad Pip's in Sheepshead Bay closed. I'd pay twice to see the rest of your standup routine.
  3. Are the comments about the imminent demise of "the hobby" based on the demographics of this, and other, fora? Using this information as evidence doesn't provide an accurate picture. Why not? Because, there are far more people who do build models and don't, for whatever reasons, choose to frequent hobby-specific websites and groups than actually do. I asked my son, a sophomore in high school, to ask his friends if they're into modeling. Well, there are 29 guys in his shop class. Surprisingly, twenty build models. Twelve build car models and none visit online modeling sites or buy modeling mags.
  4. Peter, there's a toy store in Greenpoint that still sells them. That's where I get mine. If the bottle you have runs out, transfer the cement from the new into the old.
  5. You can buy the Panel Delivery body direct from Jimmy Flintstone. It's on sale for only 20 bucks.
  6. I'm on it right now. I'll have them out to you on Thursday.
  7. Not much difference. If you want, I can modify them for you. It's short work and zero problem. PM your address if you want them. '59 skirts '60 skirts
  8. So much for "Jack of all trades, master at none". The majority of today's yoots know jack about nothing.
  9. Would you be interested in a set of '59 Impala skirts? A small amount of filling and adjusting at the tops to make them fit. I have at least two sets I'll never use.
  10. I make bucks from 2-part epoxy (Magic-Sculpt). I cut out a section of a 2 liter soda bottle wide enough to accommodate the buck, place the buck and bottle section on and around a 24 oz. pasta jar (empty, of course), clamp the excess bottle plastic from the back with a vise-grip and use a heat gun to form the glass. Works for me. Your mileage may vary.
  11. YOW! I was referring to this particular version which I have and has the removable applicator tube: I've never bought one with the plastic applicator.
  12. Understanding the precise legal definitions of terms like "collusion", "monopoly" and "price fixing" before carelessly tossing them into a conversation seems to be a rarity lately. A good example of a monopoly broken up for violations of the Sherman Antitrust Act is Standard Oil. Standard was found guilty of not only monopolizing the petroleum industry, it was guilty of both horizontal and vertical price fixing. As you pointed out, Tamiya is not guilty of any of these practices. What it boils down to is, "Nothing personal.just business." That involves actually performing research which many are loathe to do.
  13. The applicator tube is removable.
  14. I don't see any in either kit's part lists. You'll have to make them from clear sheet.
  15. Real headlights aren't white. I believe Bill "Mr. Obsessive" Geary mentioned in a similar thread that he used some pearlescent acrylic craft paint applied over the lenses to achieve a realistic glass look. I use MM Acryl Gloss Clear with a small drop of silver acrylic paint mixed in. This imparts a sense of depth when the chrome plating reflects light.
  16. Believe it or don't, you can easily pull the applicator tube out of the container. Do that, then use a needle or a drill bit to clear any obstruction. When you're finished, reinsert the applicator tube back into the container and you'll be good to go.
  17. I chalk it up to the ether in the Plastruct Plastic Weld I have. Occasionally, I'll use it to build models.
  18. Wow. http://www.tmz.com/2018/05/14/margot-kidder-dead-dies-bipolar-superman-lois-lane/
  19. You're absolutely correct. Although, from the comments made, you would be led to believe that the entire hobby is nosediving like a lawn dart.
  20. The hobby, in general, isn't. Stagnation in the car modeling arena doesn't extend to other areas of the hobby. All of the new companies, along with established manufacturers, churning out new releases in armor and aircraft, belie your statement.
  21. He drilled a hole through the record to accommodate the 12 penny nail. I asked him why he didn't use a finishing nail and just hang the record on it using the spindle hole. "Huh?"
  22. Tamiya products are distributed in the U.S.A. by Tamiya USA; so, Tamiya does interface with retailers since the retailers can only order through it. Tamiya, like other manufacturers who want to protect the value of their brand, can offer retailers a "take it or leave it" option. As a private commercial entity, it is legally free to choose with whom it wishes to conduct business and can institute policies, such as MAP, which the retailers must agree to in order to purchase merchandise. Otherwise, they're SOL. Tamiya's legal standing is upheld if it acts independently of other like manufacturers. If Tamiya, along with other kit manufacturers, agreed as a group to vertical and horizontal pricing policies, that would be price fixing and in violation of antitrust statutes.
  23. I know the GTO's and GT 40 were previously PL releases. Notice that the boxes are all labeled as AMT/ERTL, not Polar Lights.
