  1. I make bucks from 2-part epoxy (Magic-Sculpt). I cut out a section of a 2 liter soda bottle wide enough to accommodate the buck, place the buck and bottle section on and around a 24 oz. pasta jar (empty, of course), clamp the excess bottle plastic from the back with a vise-grip and use a heat gun to form the glass. Works for me. Your mileage may vary.
  2. YOW! I was referring to this particular version which I have and has the removable applicator tube: I've never bought one with the plastic applicator.
  3. Understanding the precise legal definitions of terms like "collusion", "monopoly" and "price fixing" before carelessly tossing them into a conversation seems to be a rarity lately. A good example of a monopoly broken up for violations of the Sherman Antitrust Act is Standard Oil. Standard was found guilty of not only monopolizing the petroleum industry, it was guilty of both horizontal and vertical price fixing. As you pointed out, Tamiya is not guilty of any of these practices. What it boils down to is, "Nothing personal.just business." That involves actually performing research which many are loathe to do.
  4. The applicator tube is removable.
  5. I don't see any in either kit's part lists. You'll have to make them from clear sheet.
  6. Real headlights aren't white. I believe Bill "Mr. Obsessive" Geary mentioned in a similar thread that he used some pearlescent acrylic craft paint applied over the lenses to achieve a realistic glass look. I use MM Acryl Gloss Clear with a small drop of silver acrylic paint mixed in. This imparts a sense of depth when the chrome plating reflects light.
  7. Believe it or don't, you can easily pull the applicator tube out of the container. Do that, then use a needle or a drill bit to clear any obstruction. When you're finished, reinsert the applicator tube back into the container and you'll be good to go.
  8. I chalk it up to the ether in the Plastruct Plastic Weld I have. Occasionally, I'll use it to build models.
  9. Wow. http://www.tmz.com/2018/05/14/margot-kidder-dead-dies-bipolar-superman-lois-lane/
  10. You're absolutely correct. Although, from the comments made, you would be led to believe that the entire hobby is nosediving like a lawn dart.
  11. The hobby, in general, isn't. Stagnation in the car modeling arena doesn't extend to other areas of the hobby. All of the new companies, along with established manufacturers, churning out new releases in armor and aircraft, belie your statement.
  12. He drilled a hole through the record to accommodate the 12 penny nail. I asked him why he didn't use a finishing nail and just hang the record on it using the spindle hole. "Huh?"
  13. Tamiya products are distributed in the U.S.A. by Tamiya USA; so, Tamiya does interface with retailers since the retailers can only order through it. Tamiya, like other manufacturers who want to protect the value of their brand, can offer retailers a "take it or leave it" option. As a private commercial entity, it is legally free to choose with whom it wishes to conduct business and can institute policies, such as MAP, which the retailers must agree to in order to purchase merchandise. Otherwise, they're SOL. Tamiya's legal standing is upheld if it acts independently of other like manufacturers. If Tamiya, along with other kit manufacturers, agreed as a group to vertical and horizontal pricing policies, that would be price fixing and in violation of antitrust statutes.
  14. I know the GTO's and GT 40 were previously PL releases. Notice that the boxes are all labeled as AMT/ERTL, not Polar Lights.
  15. MAP does not violate any antitrust legislation, including the Sherman Act. Look it up. For further reading on the legality and enforcement of MAP policies, go here.
  16. I took my kid to a hipster-centric barber shop in the neighborhood about six years ago. He took a seat in the chair and I was explaining to the "stylista" how to trim his hair. I happened to look at the wall next to the mirror. Nailed to the wall was a 78 rpm copy of "A Thousand Stars" b/w "Hey Chiquita" by a group called the Rivileers on Baton Records No. 200. I asked the barber where he got the record. He said he bought it at the Salvation Army Thrift Store around the corner for two bucks and thought it would look, like yah, riiiiiiillllly kewl hanging up by his work area. This was was an original 1953 release in very good + plus condition and would have been worth over $600 except for one thing. This toilet plunger shaped dope nailed it to the wall, ignoring the spindle hole, putting the friggin' nail through the platter itself. I would have scammed the guy out of the record and offered him ten bucks for it if not for the fact it was now worthless.
  17. Or have a clue as to what this is: Hint: It's not a Frisbee with a finger hole.
  18. Are you referring to these? They're regular AMT kits with a diecast of the kit subject included. Quality, fit, etc., are what you would expect from AMT, which is good all the way around.
  19. Aerosans aren't snowmobiles in the traditional sense. They're prop-driven, running on skis as opposed to tracks. The vehicle in Richard's post is a TTM-1901 "Berkut" snowmobile, built by NPO Transport. Meet Russia's Gun-Toting Snowmobile
  20. I read (it was scratched into the wall of an old wooden phone booth in a bar where I was drinking lunch one morning) that even doing that can result in a severe case of stink eye.
  21. If you avoid direct eye contact, it doesn't look too bad.
  22. Wouldn't matter if you did. Most of you "young" folks don't know how to write in longhand anyway.
  23. I started a thread on that yesterday. Discounts On Tamiya Products - POOF! GONE!
