Detail set for `57 Ford Fairlane/ Ranchero
SfanGoch replied to Zoom's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
It's indicated on the sheet that this set is for AMT 1/25 Scale Kits. If this set were meant to be used on kits from another manufacturer, it would say so like here. -
You're a pro's pro, Harry. You posted over 3,400 comments since Jan. 1st.

That's what happens when you have 700 cable channels and there's nothing to watch.
-
That's the best time, no distractions.

Battery cable ends ?
SfanGoch replied to Jon Haigwood's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Get the PE ends, glue (with CA, of course) them onto .010" styrene sheet and carefully trim. You can use small drill bits, like a miniature round file, to clean up the open end.The styrene sheet will give it added thickness and impart a more realistic 3 dimensional appearance. Other than this, you're out o'luck. Before you say, "Gee, that's a lot of work for something that small", I primarily build 1/35 armor and I've scratchbuilt things much smaller than 1/24-1/25 battery cable ends, using styrene, PE frets and actually carving items out of round, square and flat styrene stock.. Just take your time and you'll be surprised at the results. -
Those watches would have made great prizes for contest winners if there were any contests here.

We'll send it out to get gold chromed. No top coat required. Stands up to repeated handling. Guaranteed not to turn green. If that doesn't do anything for you, you want my stainless steel, stem wound, 17 jewel movement, anti-magnetic, 1971 Caravelle by Bulova Men's wristwatch with the patented Bulova Signed Flex Band ®, suggested retail price $15.99? It gives you the correct time twice daily at 4:13.

How about an injection molded, Alclad coated one?

Do You Have Any Kits You Will NEVER Build?
SfanGoch replied to Snake45's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have two mint first issue (GC 300:149) Jo-Han Chrysler Turbine Car kits. One will stay that way. The other will receive the Bill Geary treatment. It's too nice of a kit not to build. -
Yeah, but, your breath won't reek of shredded cuttlefish snacks or stale beer. DEAL!

You probably don't patronize the right establishments. California doesn't count as civilization. Governor Blotter Acid banned everything there. Chewing a sprig of fresh parsley works in a pinch.

This is the first time that I was stunned by a response. You mean to tell me that you never heard of C. Howard's Violet candies???? They've been used to mask smoker's breath, booze breath, coffee (pronounced "cawfee" here), garlic breath and bad breath in general for years. Violets, in candy or gum form, is the last thing in your mouth after a liquid lunch and before you stagger back to work. No self-respecting bar fiend would not have a pack handy at all times. They're found in almost every candy store, newspaper stand and smoke shop in these here United States of A!!!!!! Oh.....you live in Oregon.............never mind.............

There's a place called Jackson Hole here in NYC. It makes some of the best chili I've ever had. You can have mild all the way to thermonuclear. I agree with you about being able to actually enjoy what you're eating. There's nothing enjoyable about eating what tastes like you're shovelling spoonfuls of powdered CN agent in your mouth. The first time I ate at a particular Indian restaurant, I ordered Chicken Vindaloo. After the waiter brought the food, he stood around holding a large carafe of ice water. I thought that was odd until I started eating.

That's when these come in handy

Probably the same place I get this It's great with an ice cold beer.

Any idea how to "tint" windows
SfanGoch replied to JerseeJerry55's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Definitely a great method, Rich. There are some cool colors in that line which make excellent window tints. -
Any idea how to "tint" windows
SfanGoch replied to JerseeJerry55's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
That's a great method, Harry. Now I know what I'll use to tint the clear plastic lower dome on my 1/72 C-57D Space Cruiser. Another method to tint glass with compound curves is to spray smoke, or other transparent colors, onto a sheet of clear decal paper. Once the paint dries, spray some Krylon Super Clear to seal it. You can apply it like window tint film; except, it's a lot thinner and can conform to the curves by using Micro Sol. -
Pretty much done with resin.

Tom, what makes you think that Chris had any better chance of getting his stuff now as opposed to even last year? Or two years ago? Johnson obviously had no intention of sending any goods that Chris, or anyone else for that matter, paid for. Attempting to resolve the situation via private correspondence during the last three years yielded no positive results because Johnson lacked the common courtesy to even respond in kind. Then, there was Johnson's April 28th post on the "Dedicated to the preservation of building 1/16 drag racing models" Facebook page: "....as long as I can prove the date of the order." How about that? Any reasonable person reading that would think that an order placed, and paid for, three years ago should have top priority. An honest vendor would have ensured that this was the case. An honest vendor wouldn't have allowed this situation to have transpired in the first place. Mark Johnson is neither an honest vendor nor an honorable person. If he actually meant what he wrote in that FB post, Chris wouldn't have posted anything here. As a matter of fact, the first mention in this thread of Chris' dilemma wasn't made until July 7th; and, that was done by another member who was familiar with the situation. The period between April 28th and July 7th was more than enough time for Johnson to make things right by sending Chris his order. Any honest vendor would have gone to great pains to preserve and maintain his good reputation. Johnson's actions, or lack of, show that he is not honest and is devoid of any semblance of personal integrity. -
Why are 1/43 Scale Models so Pricey
SfanGoch replied to Skip's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Sorta like the Made in Vietnam $450 Nike Air Jordans that cost $12 in material, labor and shipping to the states. -

That's one out of the approximately 3,800 who have viewed this thread and possibly alerted folks in other auto modeling fora about this guy's unethical business practices. That could reach an additional 2-5,000 people who could have been potential suc.....customers. Chris most likely lost $125. Mark Johnson lost his reputation and whatever was left of his business because he will be treated like a pariah in the modeling community. He'll never make another dime. I'm doing my part to spread the word about him. -

You have three '60's and two '61's to choose from. -
You can use Krylon Crystal Clear Acrylic, sprayed in very light coats. You will need to cut and trim around the individual decals in order to remove them from the sheet.

It's not difficult to figure out, Chris. To paraphrase Ralph Kramden, "Mark Johnson is a BUM!" -
DONE WITH ARCHER TRANSFERS!!!!!!!!!!
SfanGoch replied to Ben's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'm sure Woody will get over losing your patronage. Just wondering, do you boycott decal manufacturers that make Stars and Bars? -

The improvisations are interesting. All those pickups with recoilless rifles and and other heavy weapons mounted on the rear are referred to as "technicals".
