"Pure Quality" and "Made in China" is an oxymoron and should never be used together.

I always spray a clear overcoat over foil. I found that it keeps food fresher and prevents freezer burn. -
This should be pinned on page 1.

A lean, green racing machine! Those handlebars were great. You had to lean into them and looked like you were doing 100mph even while coasting. Beats the heck out of BMX or mountain bikes. Kids around here used to tie a partially filled balloon onto the front fork to sound like a motorcycle when the spokes rubbed against it. -

I'd believe that if you lived in Staten Island. It's still 1974 in most areas there. -

My parents weren't rich by any standard. We, like almost every other resident of the neighborhood, were lower middle class Greenpointers. I made that discovery after living with them. There was a point when I considered disowning them. My mom and dad squirreled away the money so that they could get me this bike as a Communion present and I was forever grateful. I was probably the only kid in the entire Greenpoint-Williamsburg area that was lucky enough to own a Krate. I never saw another one like it while riding around. Believe me when I say that there more than a few kids who attempted to change that status. The two Grey Ghosts my son and I have were purchased together at a bike shop in Park Slope. We just got off the bus and were heading to the supermarket when I happened to turn toward the street to light up a smoke. Across the street, I saw something strangely familiar in the bike shop window. I grabbed my son and went to take a closer look. JEEZUSEFFINCHRIST! Not one, but TWO FREAKING SCHWINN GREY GHOST KRATE BIKES!!!! I walked right into the shop and asked the woman who owns the joint how many does she have besides the two in the window. She said those were it. How much? "$600." I'm taking both of them. Roll' em out. She let me have both for $1050. She said I was the first jer...customer who had any clue as to what kind of bikes they were. She threw in two front and rear tires, inner tubes, lights, toolkits and bags for free. Needless to say, we forgot about the supermarket. My dad got me a super cool bike when I was a kid. Now, it was my turn to do the same for my son. He also has a regular Grey Ghost with foot brake which we're going to convert into another 5 Speed with a stick shift. I bought that one on eBay for 76 bucks including shipping from Jersey. -

Cool bike, Tom. There's a metallic blue Mk I 10 speed chained to the gate of an apartment building in the neighborhood. I'd like to find out if the owner would be interested in selling it. It looks just like the one you had -

I was always a Sting-Ray kid. I liked my 1968 Schwinn Apple Krate best Drum brake in the front and spring suspension front fork, 5 Speed 8-Ball stick shift, banana seat with spring suspension, 16" front tire and a 20" rear slick. This was to bikes what Harleys are to motorcycles. My kid and I both have Grey Ghosts today It's definitely a head turner. Everyone from beer-gutted oldtimers to pogo stick shaped hipsters wants to know where they can get one. -

This is a one-size-fits-all, multi-purpose definition suitable for most of these words/phrases: An irritating verbal crutch, indicating closure or synopsis, for morons who are incapable of finishing a sentence without incorporating at least one tired cliche. -

WRONG!!!!! Wassamattaforyou?!? Strip, don't sand, the paint off. That way, you won't beat your head against the wall when you realize that you sanded off all of the details. -

"At the end of the day" has been used for longer than that, Richard. Urban Dictionary has the best definition: An irritating verbal crutch, indicating closure or synopsis, for morons who are incapable of finishing a sentence without incorporating at least one tired cliche. -

So far, so good. That's the Rye Field Model RFM 5001, right? It's a great kit, minor issues notwithstanding. I see that you've discovered that the mounting bolts on the hull don't align with the mudguards. What paint did you use for RAL 8000? Note: Neither of the Tiger battalions (501 and 504) were part of DAK. -

Yes, getting false, undeserved fawning praise for unsatisfactory, less than mediocre work (not talking models) from your peers in the real world as an adult because they don't wish to damage your fragile psyche and hurt your feelings. There will be the day that someone will be honest and tell you something that you don't want to hear. How are you going to handle that? Throw a tantrum? Punch the guy in the face? Stomp away steaming mad because the guy doesn't understand or appreciate your genius? You can't improve on what you are doing if the only comments are obvious, bald-faced lies made to massage your ego. If you can't handle honest criticism for something as banal as a model, you are in a world of butthurt when it involves something really important.* I had a new one torn by none other than Steve Zaloga when I was 14. Steve didn't mince words. I wanted to tell him that he was a jerk; but, after analyzing what he had to say, I realized he was right on all accounts. He was brutally honest about my modeling techniques, painting and accuracy to detail and I appreciated everything he had to say. If he would have said something like "Nice work, kid" instead of "This is absolute cra p!", I'd still be building junk. I probably still do; but, at a higher level of competency and accuracy. *These comments were written with no one particular in mind. They were written using "you" in a general context. The fact that I needed to include a disclaimer to my comments is disturbing in itself for a myriad of reasons. -

But Bob, Junkman said, Just to set the paternity of the Lindberg kit straight for Junkman, it isn't a reissue of any previous AMT/SMP kit. It was a completely original tooling when first released in 1995 It has nothing in common with the original SMP kit (Hardtop, not Bubbletop) other than subject matter. Lindberg fixed the cowl shape early in the first production run and it is an excellent kit
