Unfortunatelly its on the captain of the large ship to keep a good watch. It tends to be seen as their fault when someone in a smaller boat cuts across the front thinking its clear when most boats have a bulbous bow that is out further than the part above water. Look how much trouble the bulbous bow caused on the suez, and the ripple effects we are still seeing from that and the virus, and now with a lot of ships no longer able to legally do business there will be more delays and more costs but they should settle by this time next year once boats have been moved around to suit. I'm lucky to be in a job thats less affected by rising costs than some as things still need to be moved around and theres now any other way for islands and world trade

It would make our jobs much easier if pleasure boats realised we cant turn as fast as they do, but if the boat was a normal single hulled ferry it may have managed to avoid going ashore but being a catermaran probably saved lives yesterday. A single hull going on those rocks would have destroyed the hull but since its a catermaran it doesn't sit as low in the water so managed to ride up the rocks. What you cant see in the pics is the rocks aren't flat, so coming off them would normally be like a saw effect but as its got the 2 hulls it didn't sit down hard. Theres damage but it could have been much worse

Does anybody remember these Mags?
stitchdup replied to Mike C.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Those look to be 2 different rims, one has rivets around the basket and the spokes are different shapes. If your looking for those in scale, the closest I've seen are by aoshima and fujimi and both are called star something or something star -
I wouldn't worry too much on the bumpers, vw are notorious for using up what was left on crossover years like 67-69. They were still using 1940 kubelwagen parts in 1951 on the early buses and bugs. That colour is very nice in the sun

Questions about MCW enamels
stitchdup replied to Monty's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
not sure but i think my toilet paper is 25000 grit, lol -
I'm not sure, its a busy shipping lane and summer so I'll guess a womble (tourist in the wrong place) in a boat got in the way and they had to avoid it. Yeah, the weather can be pretty bad, I've been on the other boat when it broke free during 100 mph winds and it wasn't much fun but i did learn how to drop the anchor, lol. Really cool to look at but not to be in.

Our main ferry at work went aground today. There were 97 people onboard at the time. She was refloated after 90 mins and is now back in port. From pics i cannot share, it looks like every car that was onboard has taken front and rear damage. While there doesn't appear to be much damage in these pics the galley has been devastated from the impact. There are some people injured but i believe not seriously. But these situations are why we as a crew do training for everything and today showed that training works. Pictures from RNLI and bbc. I work on the old ferry, not this one which is only 3 years in service

to be completely honest thats more luck than measuring. The cuts were done where they are because I took the wrong razor saw to work so only had 7mm of depth i could cut before the spine of the saw got in the way, and i find my tamiya scriber/saw is too thick for the top cuts plus pretty difficult to keep in a straight line

I think so, I dont see any cv joints

Cool project, the 356 rotiforms suit the look. Fyi though, a 68 bug wont have the rear camber thats on earlier bugs as it has the irs rear end

Early Custom Interiors
stitchdup replied to stitchdup's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
do you have a link? I'm not on instagram -
I'm usually a volkswagen or slammed on big wheels type of builder but at the moment I'm trying to build a 40s era 36 custom. I'm struggling to find the colours that would be used. For example would the be similar to the body colour or a contrasting colour? I can find plenty of pictures but the old ones are all black and white and the new ones somehow look modern even when they are supposed recreations. Would they have a different sheen to the fabric compared to modern? If you have any pics of early custom interiors please share share them, it would be a great help, thanx

I had a stroke of luck today. I was looking through my similar era kits for bumpers and in my 40 convertible kit i found this resin interior. I have no idea who made it but its very nicely cast and had the handles included. The door shuts are a little short but i can fix that by removing them and scribing them further back. I also found these cord bumpers which i think i'm going to use. I'll be using the front on the rear mounted closer to the body with a filler piece, and will use the rears at the front. Its much too wide but my plan is to remove the centre and mount them either side of the la salle gille with a filler piece behind. I want the entire grille exposed as a feature at the front so the bumpers may be mounted a hair firther back than the centre

Man that looks like a fun place, I like how you just know its going to be packed with vintage memoribilia behind that door.

Its got a cool look to it

very nice, it looks a mile long with the slam job

I got a bit ore done tonight. The chops ready for filler but i cant do that at work. I've also cut down the inner fenders from the 40 kit to near half the height they were. This hides 2 large plastic rods that were pretty ovious and it gives me a battery. I also filled a slot in the firewall that doesn't seem to serve a purpose. On top of this I've ordered one of icemans flatheads as this just looked lost down in the bay so this will give it some more height, and since it was there i got a quickchange axle too to use on this and also means i dont need to rob another kit for resin body i have so i'm claiming win, lol

Pin strips and Photo Etch
stitchdup replied to Perspect Scale Modelworks's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
you can find pin stripe decals in the finger nail section and various foil tapes that are a little thicker than bmf. sometimes there are also nail decal sets that include the pin stripe art as well -
I've ordered a 3d printed flathead and quick change rear for this. I tried the 40 flat head and it looked kinda lost sitting down in the engine bay so this one will add a little detail to that area. The quick change is just to enable me to save the 40 axles but I'll still use them for mocking up until the new parts get here. I managed to save the axle mounts from the 36 so hopefully they will fit the new axle. I very nearly did a complete 180 on the power too cos there something in my head about doing a traditional looking rod with a tesla motor but I'll store that for the future.

The shipping from japan might seem expensive but when you add the price of the kit and shipping you'll still be making a decent saving from buying local on japanese brands.

Nice looking rod, theres just something about the 5 window that makes it suit fenders better than the 3 window imo

Street Outlaws America's List, Season 2
stitchdup replied to Snake45's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I enjoyed this season more than the previous season. There was more racing and less of the childish fighting. This season they actually seemed like racers instead real housewives of whatever city. Seeing bobby at the top was good to see and he seems like a much more mature person that previous seasons. Bodie Jonny Quick doing well was good to see as well, their years of struggling are paying off now. I also like detroits we have to win the race or it doesn't count mentality too, it seems more sporting to me. I'm looking forward to the next street outlaws show too, it looks to be a cross between a build off and a race show so fingers crossed its fun to watch -
I could use one of them now!, maybe not for glueing small parts but definatelly for filling on custom bodywork like chops and sections where it could work for glueing if you are very careful and have the entire area your using it supported from the other side as I fear the heat could be a problem. Another big plus is no more sinkage worries

Tonight i chopped the top. I decided just 2mm would be enough to acheive the custom look i want. In the process of the chop I took the time to level out more of the door top to give it a longer look than the stock curve has. For the rear window i used my widest saw to cut along the the bottom of the window as I dont want to chop it. As you can see there were a few angled cuts down from the bottom cut for the doors. its messy but the peices are level so it just a few small pieces of sprue to fill them. most of the material removed came from the top edge of the rear piece as I like the sleeker looking chop rather than a hot rod style chop on this build. I have to run the saw along the drivers side of this edge again and reglue as its just a smidge different to the other side and its easier to remove than add back.
