  1. Maybe some in the dolls house hobby shops, not likelly to be racing drivers though. There are loads of 3d printed figures available though from most eras
  2. growing up i always thought the bermuda triangle would play a bigger part in my life
  3. travolta sounds like something a tri chevy ev would be called, dont steal my idea general motors
  4. wind it up screamed the passenger, i want to feel the wind in my hair
  5. seventies was the name of the original professional skateboard distributors in england
  6. Cool,
  7. Well I honestly thought i was done with the bodywork. I had parts in the booth but the rear of the monogram body wasn't right. They have the section from the rumble seat back almost flat and if you look at a real 36 its got some curve to it. I guess thats why they had spare wheel to hide it but I dont want the spare as it'll spoil the flow of the chop and grille. So I took my blade and scribed around the body on the inner body line, from the rumble seat mount back (nearly messed up and moved it but realised before the cuts were done) so as not to affect the mounts and ruin the fit. Hopefully this will save some hair pulling later when it comes to assembly. I used some evergreen rod to move the body section out and as you can see the plastic is thicker in this area so reshaping shouldn't be too bad. This is after 4 hours but theres still shaping to do but the side to side curve is really there now and not just implied by the curved cut on the rumble seat top
  8. I'd stick them in all the rest unless there is a tow vehicle in which case I'd put it in the class of the tow vehicle
  9. After the incident with the ferry last week I thought i may be out of a job as the ferry I watch will be going back in service until the other is fixed. I asked my bosses what will be happening with all of us on the boat and we are going to be paid as normal for the time being. I've offered to help anywhere i can while I'm on the break
  10. I didn't realise the rear bumper pic was so bad so here's one you can actuall see, lol I've also glued the front grille in place. I had to remove the 2 small sections of plastic that held the fenders together to do this so figured it best to do it at home so they didn't get jostled too much taking it back from the boat. To get the grille to fit also meant slightly pulling the fenders apart and I added a small section of plastic behind for additional strength. I might leave the bumper as one piece, it seems to be shaped to avoid the grille and once its at stock height it will give a more finished look to the front end
  11. I would try painting the area you want to fit the decal with multiple mist coats from further away leaving it longer than normal in between coats so you get it to build up with orange peel. If it feels too rough you can then knock it down a bit with very light 2500 wet n dry to get the vinyl effect for under the decal. I should point out i have not done this but it is what i would try
  12. Unfortunatelly its on the captain of the large ship to keep a good watch. It tends to be seen as their fault when someone in a smaller boat cuts across the front thinking its clear when most boats have a bulbous bow that is out further than the part above water. Look how much trouble the bulbous bow caused on the suez, and the ripple effects we are still seeing from that and the virus, and now with a lot of ships no longer able to legally do business there will be more delays and more costs but they should settle by this time next year once boats have been moved around to suit. I'm lucky to be in a job thats less affected by rising costs than some as things still need to be moved around and theres now any other way for islands and world trade
  13. It would make our jobs much easier if pleasure boats realised we cant turn as fast as they do, but if the boat was a normal single hulled ferry it may have managed to avoid going ashore but being a catermaran probably saved lives yesterday. A single hull going on those rocks would have destroyed the hull but since its a catermaran it doesn't sit as low in the water so managed to ride up the rocks. What you cant see in the pics is the rocks aren't flat, so coming off them would normally be like a saw effect but as its got the 2 hulls it didn't sit down hard. Theres damage but it could have been much worse
  14. Those look to be 2 different rims, one has rivets around the basket and the spokes are different shapes. If your looking for those in scale, the closest I've seen are by aoshima and fujimi and both are called star something or something star
  15. I wouldn't worry too much on the bumpers, vw are notorious for using up what was left on crossover years like 67-69. They were still using 1940 kubelwagen parts in 1951 on the early buses and bugs. That colour is very nice in the sun
  16. not sure but i think my toilet paper is 25000 grit, lol
  17. I'm not sure, its a busy shipping lane and summer so I'll guess a womble (tourist in the wrong place) in a boat got in the way and they had to avoid it. Yeah, the weather can be pretty bad, I've been on the other boat when it broke free during 100 mph winds and it wasn't much fun but i did learn how to drop the anchor, lol. Really cool to look at but not to be in.
  18. Our main ferry at work went aground today. There were 97 people onboard at the time. She was refloated after 90 mins and is now back in port. From pics i cannot share, it looks like every car that was onboard has taken front and rear damage. While there doesn't appear to be much damage in these pics the galley has been devastated from the impact. There are some people injured but i believe not seriously. But these situations are why we as a crew do training for everything and today showed that training works. Pictures from RNLI and bbc. I work on the old ferry, not this one which is only 3 years in service
  19. to be completely honest thats more luck than measuring. The cuts were done where they are because I took the wrong razor saw to work so only had 7mm of depth i could cut before the spine of the saw got in the way, and i find my tamiya scriber/saw is too thick for the top cuts plus pretty difficult to keep in a straight line
  20. I think so, I dont see any cv joints
  21. Cool project, the 356 rotiforms suit the look. Fyi though, a 68 bug wont have the rear camber thats on earlier bugs as it has the irs rear end
  22. do you have a link? I'm not on instagram
  23. I'm usually a volkswagen or slammed on big wheels type of builder but at the moment I'm trying to build a 40s era 36 custom. I'm struggling to find the colours that would be used. For example would the be similar to the body colour or a contrasting colour? I can find plenty of pictures but the old ones are all black and white and the new ones somehow look modern even when they are supposed recreations. Would they have a different sheen to the fabric compared to modern? If you have any pics of early custom interiors please share share them, it would be a great help, thanx
  24. I had a stroke of luck today. I was looking through my similar era kits for bumpers and in my 40 convertible kit i found this resin interior. I have no idea who made it but its very nicely cast and had the handles included. The door shuts are a little short but i can fix that by removing them and scribing them further back. I also found these cord bumpers which i think i'm going to use. I'll be using the front on the rear mounted closer to the body with a filler piece, and will use the rears at the front. Its much too wide but my plan is to remove the centre and mount them either side of the la salle gille with a filler piece behind. I want the entire grille exposed as a feature at the front so the bumpers may be mounted a hair firther back than the centre
